| spadehammerfist08-03-07, 03:18 PM | I was just wondering if anyone had done more powerful versions of Eli Tomorast and his two associates in the Statuary level of Maure Castle? I am running an epic level version of MC and my PCs (21st ECL) are about to meet them - ET at about 25 th level would be good.. |
| spadehammerfist08-04-07, 09:03 AM | Is this in the wrong place? Or are you just not interested? |
| Grandmaster_Kane08-04-07, 10:41 AM | not interested most likly |
| Taeldrin Laesrash08-04-07, 11:37 AM | No one's done it, I guess. Isn't he just a Wizard 18 or something? Give him a few more Wizard levels, maybe some in Loremaster or Archmage. |
| spadehammerfist08-05-07, 09:48 AM | Yes, he is a Wiz 17, and his fighter and rogue allies are about the same, but I was wonderiing (basically) if anyone had any cool ideas for that combination of NPCs to properly challenge a 21st level high powered and maximised party? |
| Tequila_Sunrise08-05-07, 03:56 PM | Check out the Lilith's DM Tools link in my sig. You can request NPCs in the cite and as a bonus, just about all the members have at least a passing familiarity with the more famous Dungeon adventures like MC. |
| rob_douglas08-06-07, 12:02 PM | I was looking forward to seeing some ideas on this thread too. Bummer. I think Eli Tomorast is a great villain in need of Epic updates. His greatest asset is, and needs to remain, his hands. The 2 people with him are there primarily to keep the PCs from ganging up on him, and that should remain the case. I would bump Eli to Wiz20/Archmage5 or 21/4, as you like. You can give him a couple of more inherent bonuses, and any other permanent spells you can think of. The DC of his hands in attack is based on total HD, and CON, so you can bump that to 28 - more if you add in a CON boost item to his equipment. You could increase it to 2 negative levels, instead of 1. His AC is way too low for a wizard of his level. Even +5 from the hands clasp is not helpful. Maybe he should know Epic Spellcasting and Epic Mage Armor. The image shows him shattering a sword with his hands - perhaps they should grant him Improved Sunder as well. The Rogue should have some stuff to help hide - maybe a cloak of Shadows that casts shadows in a 10' radius. Upgrade the 2 defenders equipment as needed. Give them both a couple of inherent bonuses as well. Make Nornuk's rapier one of wounding. Finally, grant that Eli might have made overtures to Robilar, and if things go bad, be able to summon him there to help with the battle. Maybe it is a Summoning and not a Calling, so if he is defeated, he will just be mad - and can tell Rary, and things can get worse form there. And don't forget whatever you did to his allies, above - including the gnoll cleric. They might have enough power to cast an extended greater spell immunity on him beforehand. And can resurrect him quickly. BTW - as I want to do an Epic Maure Castle as well - what else have you done to make it more so? Are you using the other levels as well (from Dungeon 124 and Dungeon 139)? Any thoughts on those? I thought they were a great location for some artifacts to be hidden for my greater campaign ideas. | spadehammerfist08-06-07, 04:04 PM | Cheers, Rob for you response, you've given me some great ideas to be getting on with (I had the similar thoughts on Epic Mage Armour!!) As to the rest, well, I haven't quite been running as written, but most of the changes have been along the lines of putting more of the same into a room (two advance hellcats, for example) or seriously upgrading monsters (my Dread Wraiths that animate the tables and statues in Elluvia's Secret Study were Advanced to 32 HD and my 6 Rakshasas were all Lords, i.e. they had 10 levels of sorceror, and caster levels of 17! SR of 37! Ha ha!) In the Guardians of the Ring room, I changed the meaning of the room and made it much more lethal. First of all, the Dragonmasters all wore a ring as statted (it just doesn't look worth protecting to me) and the ring in the pedestal, is actually an Artifact version of the Ring (watch that Bardic Knowledge check!) There were also 3 more Statues in the room, of a Red, Black and Green adult dragon. Now the party knew about the Artifact, knew that all the statues were actually alive, but couldn't know that the Dragonmasters were enemies of the three dragon and that they had been in a stalemate for a long time over the Ring. Eventually they put a wall of force up between the Dragonmasters and the Ring and tried to get at it. As soon as the wall went up all the statues came to life and tried to get at the Ring too! Still not sure about the Dragonmasters the PCs put some of them in a Forcecage and proceeded to wipe the floor with the Dragons - but when the last one died it allowed the real enemy to break in as half the northeastern wall collapsed to reveal the gigantic Gorundal a great wyrm black dragon! The look on their faces was a picture! Even better though was their expressions when they found out that the Artifact ring was an copythat no-one had been able to detect through the Antimagic shell! HA! So, I have been able, I think to make it all challenging (and a lot of stuff actually didn't need changing), but I felt I needed some help with Eli. And the CO boards aren't really for Epic level, are they? |
