Okay, let's see what it takes to get a 20th-level follower:
20: 1
19: 3
18: 5
17: 9
16: 17
15: 33
14: 65
13: 129
12: 257
11: 513
10: 1025
9: 2049
8: 4097
7: 8193
6: 16385
5: 32769
4: 65538
3: 131075
2: 262150
1: 2621500

So, that'd require a leadership score of...26,245. So, the sum of your level and your Charisma modifier (plus miscellaneous modifiers) must be 26,245. By Dicefreaks rules, no one can have a base Leadership score over 75. You're still off by a factor of almost 350. Kinda depressing, when you think about it.

Why would you need 20th level followers? Those're generally called "cohorts" :)

C'mon, it would be cool the followed by a pack of nasty CoDzillas throwing around 9th level spells. Then again, that might not be too interesting at levels you can get such followers in the first place...

I found this once too, I was playing a high level Epic (for my group) Character of 66th level and was trying to get the highest level Followers as possible, I found it virtually impossible to get followers past 13th level. As a result I developed a new found respect for PC's and NPC's of 13th level and above.

This was intentionally built into the system so that Leadership would not have be inappropirately overpowred.

Keep in mind that Leadership and Epic Leadership are only singular feats that require no additional investment of xp or gold.

However, if your point is that the silly line about "no followers above 20th level" should be removed, then I wholeheartedly agree, because its never going to be an issue.

I agree it is intentional, and rightfully so, especially given there is a system in place for hih level Cohorts.

How ever I will correct you on one thing, Leadership requires a HUGE investment of Gold and to a lesser extent, XP.

Every meal your men eat, you have to pay for, or provide in some other fashion. The clothes they wear, the weapons and amror they use, they are all expenses you must cover.

Now, you can (if your DM allows it) ofset some of these cost by recuriting some Commoners as 1s level followers to work your fields, but even this is only going to dent the cost of upkeep for hundreds (pre-Epic) if not thousands (Epic) or even hundreds of thousands (Legendary Commander) of followers.

The XP cost comes for Spells to aid your followers.

Xheers.

Nowhere does it state that you pay for everything that followers wear and consume.

To the contrary, followers come equipped with whatever gear that they are supposed to have, and you can always put followers to work doing whatever they do best, which will allow them to be self-sufficient (or perhaps even pay you taxes).

Only when you use them for war or adventuring are you going to need to cover costs, and in any case they likely come cheaper than any hirelings you could obtain in other ways.

In general, you can expect followers to cost you 0 gp.

I am not with my books, and the SRD doesn't include that kind of information, but to the best of my knowledge their is a paragraph that talks about having to provide for your followers...

Until I get a chance to reveiw my books, I will have to give you the benfit of the doubt, but if I find the refrence I am looking for, then I will share it with the boards.

It is pretty easy to be self sufficient, you have people making profession and craft checks to make money. Not all of them, but a fair amount.

Or you can hire them out as mercenaries (costs for healing injuries and raising the dead should be more than covered by income).

Not that it really brings them within any PC's range, but I believe you could do it with a leadership score of only 13,139.

1: 1,310,900
2: 131,090
3: 65,545
4: 32,773
5: 16,387
6: 8,194
7: 4,097
8: 2,049
9: 1,025
10: 513
11: 257
12: 129
13: 65
14: 33
15: 17
16: 9
17: 5
18: 3
19: 2
20: 1

Random curiosity, but, what would the bonus to your Leadership score be fore 'Being a deity'?

It does not matter. A leader is respected. A deity is worshipped.
