| AlexTByron11-12-04, 01:04 AM | Suppose I am making a set of 20 +1 arrows. Now according to 3.5 it is 6 GP for to make each arrow masterwork. That makes my cost 121 GP (20 * 7 + for the basic set of 20 arrows). No problem. Now, when I apply the +1 bonus (2000 GP) do I apply it to the set as a whole, making my cost 2,121 GP; or do I apply it to each individual arrow, making my cost 40,121 GP? |

Due to an error the numbers quoted for costs of arrows in both the masterwork section of the PHB (pg 122) and the magical weapon section of the DMG (pg 223) are actually wrong. In the PHB it says that masterwork adds 6gp to the cost of an arrow and then states that 10 mwk arrows would cost 70 gp. 60gp of this will be the mwk element, so that they are working from a base price of 1gp per arrow. The DMG also has the same error on Table 7-13: Common Ranged Weapons. They list 50 mwk arrows as costing 350gp, 300gp of which is the mwk element so again they are showing each arrow as costing 1gp. As we all know, 1gp will buy you 20 arrows, so in fact a single mwk arrow should cost 6.05gp, 10 mwk arrows will be 6.5gp and 50 mwk arrows will be 302.5gp. A set of 50 +1 arrows will cost 2,302.5gp. Note that the reason you get 50 arrows magically enhanced for the same price of a melee weapon is because they are "used up" when they are fired - as per the standard rules, arrows that hit their target are destroyed, and there is a 50% break chance for arrows that miss their target. Hope this helps Evan. |
