| spyderfreek05-11-05, 03:46 AM | This thread may already exist somewhere, but I am posting it now. The idea is to post your most favorite thing that has hapened to you, your fellow players or the PCs you've DM'd. Since I started the thread, here's mine: #1. Playing my 2nd edition Darksun halfling bard/Keneticist, fighting an ettin. I brought up kinetic control, the DM did not know what the power did. I told him a stand still and let the Ettin hit me. He was baffled, especially when I did it twice. Knowing I had taken more then 3x my hp in damage, he just looked at me when I poked the ettin in the toe with enough return damage to kill it in one hit. He smiled and said good one, we eed to talk about that power after this fight. For that point further he ruled I glowed with energy when I had store "potential" damage. That halfling became a notorious threat to the villany on Athas, but his first major battle was always his favorite. Lets have some fun all. |
| Erchamion05-11-05, 04:00 AM | #2 That would be when my all evil high-lvl group whacked a Titan in 2 rounds :) Lich(me) lvl 13 cleric - and Rogue lvl 15 did all the fun. We had a Wizard lvl 15 with alot of Vamp. Touch at our side as well. + 2others who didnt give dmg or act at all. First the rogue gets sneak attack, and our Wiz moved up and vamp.touched him for some 50dmg. Titan whacked our wiz down with the warhammer. My lich gets nat20 with his +3 keen scythe of brilliant energy dealing 70dmg, and rogue gets 2nd sneak attack next round. The DM was totally suprised hoping that the Titan would be able to deal some real dmg with time-stop etc next round(s). U should've seen the look of his face :D My liches 70dmg crit will be my favourite combat-moment :D |
| spyderfreek05-11-05, 05:30 AM | #3 I just remembered another time I was playing a cleric of mystra. I was a human, we had a dwarven fighter and half-dragon fighter with us. We had provoked an ancient dragon, but it was only speaking with us. He kept talking badly about the 1/2-dragon and my goddess. I was upset and signaled to the 1/2 dragon to be ready. I don't remember all the specifics, but what I do remember is this. I smiled at the dragon, cast harm(2nd ed), 1/2 dragon swung, dragon died. DM had spent 4 hours getting the dragon ready for a HUGE battle, which was to take place later. SHe just looked at us... and started crying...... we apologized....then burst out laughing. |
| AzarKing05-11-05, 05:43 AM | 4) in the party of the half-elf druid, human rogue/ranger, drow bard and human fighter/dervish(me). We were attaching an orc camp on the northern border of this pioneer settlement. As the druid was swatting orcs in bear, the ranger and bard were taking care of oncoming Orc Barbarians, I was in precarious position. I had dropped my scimitars early after being disarmed, and this orc on a 20 foot high piece of ground that harbored one nasty ballista, was preparing to take the druid down. Thinking quickly, i ran about 20 feet forward, picked up a fallen morningstar and threw it up at the orc. The Dm was so surprised at this manuever, he somehow rolled it as to the bolt being misfired and orc, dazed, seeing as how it hit him in the head :) |
| TheMagister05-11-05, 07:33 AM | I was DMing a world that a buddy of mine had created and run for about a year, so the characters and setting were pretty dear to us. My buddy had gotten tired of DMing, so I told him I'd take over for a while and put the party through its paces. He (my ex-DM buddy) introduced a half-celestial dwarven cleric/barbarian of a drinking, carousing, battle-lusting god. After playing a few games, letting him get used to his character's personality and abilities, I hit the party with its first real challenge: a portion of a humanoid/giant army attacked one of the towns in the area that the PC's considered "our jurisdiction". The army was trained/generaled by a cunning and malicious hobgoblin fighter/assassin, and he trained his hill-giants to fight with tower shields and martial weapons (he also taught stone-giants to hollow out their boulders and fill them with alchemist's fire, but that's another story). So, Thorvold (the half-celestial dwarven cleric with war/strength domains and destructive rage) charges these tower shield carrying hill-giants and deals enough damage with destructive rage and a maul to completely destroy a large-sized tower shield in one hit. Hardness and all. Giant misses. Giant's buddy misses. Thorvold makes a jump check to mount the giant's leg, and a climb check to monkey around the giant's torso onto its back (he's rolling like a champ, too...I didn't make this easy). Now, with a fistful of stringy, dirty, hill-giant hair, Thorvold stands astride the shoulders of this behemoth and casts on the defensive. Inflict Critical Wounds (4d8 + 16 at this point). He chooses to deliver it through his mailed fist in a punch using his strength domain ability (add cleric level to strength for one attack roll, ability check, etc.). He took that giant down with one punch. Rode him down like a falling tree. That giant had, like, 4 levels of fighter, too. So, after THAT, same battle, Thorvold tries this trick again. This time he gets hit by a giant-sized grapple attempt on a provoked attack of opportunity (while he tries to climb the hill-giant). The giant grabs him with both hands and holds him out at arm's length by the feet, upside down. The giant's partner drops his tower shield and starts winding up two handed to smack the dangling cleric. Thorvold fails his grapple check. Giant smacks the living sh** out of Thorvold. Giants are laughing in glee and for the sheer fun of a punching bag cleric. Thorvold just says, "Oh, you think that's funny? Huh?" and makes his concentration check to cast in a grapple. He hits his captor right in the face with a searing light spell. Gets dropped. Jumps right up again and starts climbing the giant. Readies an action to let go if the other giant swings at him. Other giant does. Original giant takes a two-handed greatclub to the chest. Damn-near kills him instantly, on top of all the other stuff that's been done to him. Anyhow, long and short of it is, Thorvold, pretty much single-handedly, through good rolls and sheer role-playing talent, takes out like, 4 heavily augmented giants (both stone and hill) before falling before a lucky crit. We raised him anyways. (I'll never forget that, Matt.) TM |
| DragonsArt05-11-05, 07:44 AM | One of the wizard's in the party turned my rogue invisible so he immediately moves up and tries to get into flanking position. Because of initiative and trying to move silently, the rogue took a few rounds to get into position. By time he was next to a creature, the other wizard had positioned himself to cast Color Spray. Unfortunately, the rogue was in the first square. Needless to say, with his poor will save, he was unconscious for the rest of the combat... |

| psionichamster05-11-05, 09:01 AM | 2ed, party of 3 elven wizardess/ranger (spider-man themed...web, jump, etc) human wizard (blaster extraordinaire) gnomish necromancy cleric (anti-undead, though...also fond of stone spells) party encounters 3 giants walking down a path, smack in the way of their travel. 1st round, elf casts jump on my little cleric, i cast "fist of stone" (2ed version gave you effective 18/00 str and a d8+str unarmed attack...and i had prof'd in unarmed strike...), wizard prepares to cast ice storm (sleet variety) 2nd round, giants are slipping all over the place from the sleet, i cast vampiric touch, start running towards giants, elf spiderclimbs into nearby trees for better ranged attacks 3rd rd...giants still slipping, lead one just out of the AoE of the ice storm when the charging, blue-glowing-stone-fisted gnome leaps to his face (jump gave you 40' jump at that point, IIRC) and slams his now very hard fist into the bridge of its nose, doing some serious damage for a sm. cleric, and discharging the vamp. touch... a whole buncha d6 HP drain later, the gnome is now more than max-ed HP-wise, still hanging on the face of this giant. another v. touch/punch to the head, and that one goes down with a thump. don't recall the rest of the fight, as it was relatively uneventful, but the image of my gnomish cleric charging, then leaping and smashing the living hell out of a full sized giant (with his FIST!) has stayed with me all these years... i miss Goh-Mon Rey.... namaste' the hamster |
| Head_PC 105-11-05, 02:24 PM | I had a group of PC's I was DMing years ago run into a group of some back-woods Ogre's...has any one seen the Deliverance? Disturbing... very disturbing. |
| Thorak05-11-05, 03:26 PM | One that was amusing as all get-out when it happened; My Paladin/Kensai, who's also a trip-monkey (though not with his weapon, that's a bastard sword), barges into a room, seeing what looks like another party torturing a giant with razor-edged chains. So he yells out the typical noble garbage, and the lady nearest him steps over and tries to trip him as her allies raise their weapons. Now, she's got Improved Trip. But I'm a heck of a lot stronger, so we oppose, she fails. I then counter-Trip, since the IT feat doesn't negate that possibility, and win again. Free attack time as she falls over. I roll, nat 20. I roll again, nat 20. I roll again, and confirm the double critical, which in our campaign is a killing/maiming blow (houserule or variant or some such. So, what her allies see is she runs up to me, shoves her leg between mine and heaves. And I pop my knee, flip her over, and cleave her from shoulder straight through to hip, in mid-air, not quite severing the body but all that's holding it together is a bit of flesh. And then I ready for the next one. She ended up being the weakest of them anyway, but it was a sweet little moment of glory. |
| lordsloth05-11-05, 04:55 PM | At low lvl: My rogue being carried in the sky by a party member with wings (i forget what he was exactly, i think something noble and goodisch ala celestial) The rest of the party was fighting orcs down below (we were 25ft up) in a forest, and it was my turn: DM: your move Me: he can open his hand as a free action right? DM: yes Me: i drop down, tumblecheck to stab my dagger into that tree and slide down wolverine berserker style (flavor for reduce fall length by 10ft), onto the back of that orc, does that warrant me a sneak attack? DM: uhm, i imagine it does. I failed my balance save on the orcs back the next turn and fell of but it was fun :) |
