| Slayer of Angels04-26-05, 11:46 AM | Some of you are the types to come up with some zany half-baked plan, others are into the artificing business and get the urge to invent the first +5 true silver decanter of endless holy water. Whatever your cognitive forte, I knew that many of you would have at least 1001 bad ideas of your own. Now, these aren't necessarily unsuccessful ideas, simply plots, schemes, plans, and inventions that would make any reasonable DM shake his head in disbelief. Here's a few to get you all started: 1: My +5 True Silver decanter of endless holy water! :D Upon proposing this idea to my DM, he stared at me for a minute flat and finally just said "dork". What? 2: To Kill Raziel: Slip a bag of holding over his head and cut it :w00t: ! Vorpal bag of holding, one-shot use. My previous DM nearly passed out from laughing. 3: The Bow of Annihilation: Kinda like having the power of a Sphere of annihilation imbued into every arrow. The first responses were "holy... No! If we're in a dungeon, and as your character tends to do, fire 9 arrows at a time, if you miss with even one arrow, it'll cause a cave-in!" Naturally I'm still awaiting my Holy Ranks to make such a thing. 4: Destroying the city of Greyhawk :evillaugh ... Um, one evening, the group was having Dinner at Great Scott's Diner after the game. In casual discussion, after comparing the distructive nature of combining bags of holding with portable holes, orbs of annihilation, rods of cancellation, etc., We kinda realized that slipping a bag of holding over a Sphere of Annihilation would essentially cause a void the size of an atomic explosion to engulf the greater part of a region. Being a Chaotic Evil character now, I realized this is it, my ultimate goal :plotting: , I'd time stop, slip a bag of holding over the sphere, then Gate myself to Asmodeus himself. Greyhawk would be gone as soon as Time Stop ended. Every god in the game would be upset for one reason or another and I'd essentially start the War of the Gods! All the while, the Abyss and the nine circles of hell would be in an uproar of laughter. 5: Bio-warfare. fill a clay jug with Salve of Contageon :P . punch a hole in the cork, glue an explosive into it. Seal it tightly. As a Chaotic Evil character, simply put this bad boy in the middle of town square and let 'er rip! Sean, the Half-orc Cleric sat there stunned for a few seconds before finally declaring me sick in the head. I dunno, I think it's a creative use of a low-level spell, salve and gunpowder... 6: Blitzkrieg: Fly over a highly populated area dropping activated wands of cloudkill. After the gas clears, the rest of the party goes on a corpse-looting spree. My DM again just shook his head :nonono: . This time he didn't even bother calling me a dork. 7: Scrawl a glyph of warding on my flesh. Upon consideration, I came to figure that one's skin is a container. It serves as a vessel for one's blood and organs. If a container or door etc. with a glyph of warding id opened, the glyph activates. I couldn't finish my thought before the DM caught on. "No, if you're skin is slashed, the glyph won't go off. Even if it did, you'd be screwed depending on where the glyph is. If it's on your chest, let's say it's supposed to spew acid... There goes your clothing." I would have just put it on my face :pbbbtt: ... Now it's your turn! Share your thoughts, this can be a great database for other players to get creative ideas! |
| Rulebook04-26-05, 11:52 AM | your bag of holding idea wouldnt work. can you close a normal bag over soebodys head and decapitate them? or does raziels head float over his shoulders with no neck? your bow of annihilation... check out the bow of the solars... it fires a slaying arrow they type of whatever you're aming at. |
| Insane Pixie04-26-05, 12:47 PM | your bag of holding idea wouldnt work. can you close a normal bag over soebodys head and decapitate them? or does raziels head float over his shoulders with no neck? your bow of annihilation... check out the bow of the solars... it fires a slaying arrow they type of whatever you're aming at. Umm...hello? You know those little strings bags have one them, to tighten them? Just keep pulling... |
| Slayer of Angels04-26-05, 01:56 PM | Yes, I know these ideas aren't the best, which is the whole point of this particular thread :P . Not looking for critique on the ones I posted (they were just examples to get the thing started), instead, I'm looking for other people's bad/silly/stupid/insane/poorly-thought-throug ideas. Like, silly suggestions posed to the DM, brainstorming gone wrong, plans and plots with inevitably outlandish outcomes, just as long as it can't be considered sane to think about or practical to impliment. Um, how do I translate that... Type stuff that would derive the following reactions:   :thinks: :looloo: and :OMG! So participate here, add idea #8 and carry on, critique is fine as long as you post a bad idea of your own with it. (remember to number it, it is 1001, and it'll be impossible to get there if everyone's counting instead of thinking or posting) Ciao! |
| Awesome_Man04-26-05, 02:14 PM | your bag of holding idea wouldnt work. can you close a normal bag over soebodys head and decapitate them? or does raziels head float over his shoulders with no neck? your bow of annihilation... check out the bow of the solars... it fires a slaying arrow they type of whatever you're aming at. But an arrow of slaying is only +1 enhancement so if you can't overcome the damage reduction of a creature it won't have to make a fortitude save. |
| Slayer of Angels04-26-05, 02:30 PM | And what would your bad idea be? Anything from "omg, I can't believe that worked" to "Hah! I knew that wouldn't work!" type scenarios. And if you're all really so hung up over the bow idea, it's not the whole "I can kill whatever I want!" philosophy, it's more the "Oh dear god!!! If I launch one of these babies at a castle, half of it would disappear!!!" philosophy. Plus, no AC bonus, Fortitude saves, Dodges, none of that would work as long as I actually HIT the thing. Even the feat Deflect Arrows and Snatch Arrows would be counter-productive. A shield of Arrow Attracting would vaporize and the other 8 arrows would come crashing down on him (probably leaving a crator where he stood as the remaining arrows landed in his place). Not for victory, for vile darkness! (even a LG character would eventually misuse the thing eventually.) |
| Circon04-26-05, 02:34 PM | Using a monk's ripped-off arm as a 2d10 light weapon is certainly a questionable idea :D *points to topic* As is tying five Fine/Diminutive monks onto a bar of adamant to create a Mace of ...stupid. |
| Awesome_Man04-26-05, 02:50 PM | But an arrow of slaying is only +1 enhancement so if you can't overcome the damage reduction of a creature it won't have to make a fortitude save. Thats how Slaying Arrows work, right? |
| Slayer of Angels04-26-05, 03:08 PM | Using a monk's ripped-off arm as a 2d10 light weapon is certainly a questionable idea :D *points to topic* As is tying five Fine/Diminutive monks onto a bar of adamant to create a Mace of ...stupid. That's funny stuff. See that kids? There's what y'all should all be thinking of! Props man. Add a +1 enhancement to the mace of ...stupid and then give it the Flaming upgrade! the +1 mace of ...stupid flaming monks! |
| epifreak04-26-05, 03:16 PM | In someone's sleep, stuff them into a bag of holding, then drop the bag of holding into the middle of the ocean. Hide a dire spider's eggsac in a fighter's plate, and wait for it to hatch. Then laugh, when suddenly he's got 0 strength. |
| tarkin04-26-05, 04:09 PM | Most of the ideas above won't work. The main exception is the cloudkill over a city, (first of all try STAFF, not wand for a 5th level spell) which will kill lots of lesser folk and cause every single 7 HD creature or greater to launch a truely awesome combination of Dispell Magic type effects at the clouds and Distintegrate, ForceCage, Acid Fog, "I wish that idiot with the Cloudkill Staff was next to me", MDJ's, fireballs, etc. etc. all targetting you. |
| twad04-26-05, 04:26 PM | saw that somewhere... a magic-missile gatling gun. Six wand of MM that turns and shoots the damage-goodness. Flying over a city at night, dropping caltrops by the tousands, then set something on fire. People wont be able to run away "that" fast. Any cursed item that are on the mature boards. |
| Slayer of Angels04-26-05, 04:27 PM | 12: Hah, try using caltrops with poison all over them! That's a riot right there. 13: Another fun and dumb idea, Bank robbery! All you need is a Dimensional Chalk holder, a Stalwart Eye, a vacated building, a scroll of dispell magic and a scroll of some anti-scrying spell. Use the Stalwart Eye (after re-casting animate object and permanancy for remote-controlling) and scope out a potentially huge stash of treasure. Upon assessing any further needs, use the dimensional chalk holder to draw a nice fat portal facing the sky. This will open up facing the ground underneath said Phat Lewt thus dropping all the goodies right into the vacant room/building. Of course, I'd die, but again, being a vampire, I'll be back soon. As soon as all the loot falls in, my accomplis will cast the two scrolls thus closing the portal and blocking the location of the loot. Have a few net launchers and other anti-personnel items at the ready to deal with guards and whatnot who may have fallen through. |
| Sinon04-26-05, 05:00 PM | Wizard or sorcerer with access to magic jar a spell from BoVD (can't remember the name) that traps a possessing spirit in its current body. There is no way to get it out. Step one: Possess new, younger, stronger, healthier body Step two: Trap yourself in new, younger, stronger, healthier body |
| Circon04-26-05, 05:34 PM | That's funny stuff. See that kids? There's what y'all should all be thinking of! Props man. Add a +1 enhancement to the mace of ...stupid and then give it the Flaming upgrade! the +1 mace of ...stupid flaming monks! The problem is, magical items have to be masterwork first. A monk's arm could be considered masterwork if you manicure, shave and wax it, I suppose, (:P), but how do you propose to get five masterwork Grig Monks? (Pixies are actually far too big.) In the -2 INT thread of ...stupid, selective breeding was proposed. Oh yeah. :bored: Well, if Grigs procreate at an age younger than about three years, you stand a chance. Otherwise, :noway: fat chance of the item being available. Oh wait, it wouldn't be available anyway, any more so than the sword of true strike. List that one up too. While we're at it: Dominate Monster on a Grig Sorceror. Tie said Grig to a stick. Hey presto, instant wand, with several different spells! Any cursed item that are on the mature boards.I can imagine. |
| Tbird04-26-05, 06:51 PM | I'm particularly fond of the Zeppelin and cloudkill scheme... I might make use of that :schemes: I once saw an idea about shrinking a huge tree down to an arrow and firing it into an enemy....dispelling it once it hits=splatter |
| jazzman83104-26-05, 08:01 PM | I had this idea. It sounded like a good idea at the time but the logistics of it just didn't work out AT ALL. I did a Minesweeper-type puzzle in a dungeon. The adventurers had 10 flags that they had to place on the "mined" spot. *ugh* i decided to keep track of what "number" came up on each tile by using a stack of pennies in each uncovered square. let me tell you, it is really hard to tell how many pennies there are in a given stack just by looking. And don't forget, it's nigh impossible to copy down the grid without messing something up!!! |
| KatScratches04-26-05, 08:27 PM | Using a monk's ripped-off arm as a 2d10 light weapon is certainly a questionable idea :D *points to topic* As is tying five Fine/Diminutive monks onto a bar of adamant to create a Mace of ...stupid. HEY! I -LIKE- my bondage fairies... Um. Whoops. Nvrmind. /me slinks off to hide. |
| Raede04-26-05, 10:40 PM | most dangerous use of a 2nd level spell: 14. cast unseen servant. give unseen servant a bag of holding and a portable hole. send servant over to big bad evil guy. mix bag and hole. bye bye BBEG. :ghosted: |
| Awesome_Man04-26-05, 11:07 PM | Before a big battle, lay on the ground about twenty or more (depending ont he size of attacking army) portable holes on the ground, cover the holes with sticks and twigs. The army runs over, falls in, and you have some wqizards use mage hand to fold up the holes. Voila, you just took a whole army captive. Now all you have to do is find a good selling price. |
| epifreak04-27-05, 12:51 AM | Mage hand, 5lb shot to testicle |
| narukagami04-27-05, 02:25 AM | Gnome submersable in a big bag of holding. In an open field facing strong opponents? Open bag and fling in their general direction. |
| epifreak04-27-05, 03:18 AM | Okay, I'm actually coming up with this one on the spot, but try this: Capture some big mindless monster in a bag of holding. If you end up in a fight where you're apparently all gonna die, pull the monster from the bag of holding. Kinda one of those final strike, if I'm going down, so are you things. |
| wizkid04-27-05, 12:40 PM | Ok kiddes heres the recipe for squirle arrows! Step 1.Knock out hundreds of innecent squirles.(Note:Make sure all of them stay asleep for a while or untill fired) Step 2.Tie one to three squirles to each arrow. Step 3.Fire arrows at any object you wish and have your spellcaster dispell the spell to keep the squirles asleep and dispell the sleep spell. Step 4.Watch in glee as the squirle attacks the person or object you fired at. (Note:For optimal enjoyment bring along more squirle arrows, a lawn chair, and a couple cases of which ever bevrege you choose.) :( Poor squirles :( |
| Eldmor04-27-05, 01:09 PM | Kobold Ballista Cram hundreds of kobolds into a small locked room that you can use as a HQ. Put arcane locked trap door in ceiling. Place ballista on top of room. Tada! Your very own kobold ballista. Other ammo could include: halflings, gnomes, pixies, grigs, quasits, diseased rats, and annoying paladin PCs. :D |
| buggritall04-28-05, 06:53 AM | Ahem: The unlimited turn. First, let us assume that chucking something to someone is a move action. (If not, use the Eberron feat Action Surge which allows another standardaction for 2 action points.) Get a row of people. LOTS of people. Give one of them a brick. Tell him to hit the next person on the head with it (so it is effectively a combat round) and then to pass it to the next person. Get the next person to do the same thing. Guess what? With a kilometre-long row of people, you're passing a brick that far in 6 seconds! :P I wonder if my DM will allow this. Feel free to poke holes in my plan. |
| Saihtam04-28-05, 07:17 AM | I got an idea recently when I read about the ring of vengeance. It does like 15d6 damage to the person or creature who kills you. Buy about a hundred of them, find about a hundred diminitive or fine creatures, hit them until they're at 1HP, cast sleep on them, put the rings on them and super glue them all over your body. Let's see who dears to take a swing at you. Another idea : hire a lot of archers (as cheap as possible, they don't need to be very good at it), buy an armor of arrow attraction, put super glue on it and throw it at a BBEG or any other person you can't stand (party paladin). Let your archers have a go at him. At night cast glyph of warding on the paladins armor or shoes. After killing an entire goblin army, we were going through the goblin city, there were only female goblins, golblin children, old goblins and handicapped goblins left. We came to a strange pit and we couldn't see the bottom. One of my party members said : 'I take one of the goblins and throw him in to see how deep the pit is". He was a LG devoted defender. Screwed his aligment up realy bad |
| Vahenir04-28-05, 07:24 AM | This is pretty interesting: I was running a lower-magic game, but I kept the wealth intake even higher than most games. The characters were supposed to be attempting to build an empire - in the vein of the old Birthright setting. Anyway... eventually they bought an Airship. Okay.. I was good with that. Then they rented themselves out as a cargo-carrier. Between that and adventures, they earned quite a chunk of change. "Gonna buy a citadel now and start forging your empire?" I asked. "No..." was the unanimous reply. They slowly invested.. and eventually came to own 2,000 flasks of Alchemist's fire. They then filled two large crates, with 1,000 flasks each. Then they flew over an existing citadel-village... and levelled everything and everyone except the stone citadel by, essentially, carpet-bombing the entire village. Then they strolled in, killed the last few remaining guards.. and took over the citadel. ...... |
| Juca04-28-05, 11:35 AM | This happened before I actually carefully readed the master samurai abilities but it was fun to imagine nevertheless so here it goes: My brother (he was a 13th level fighter with great cleave, was reading about the master samurai and, when read about the supreme cleaving ability, he casted a grim smile and asked me if he can travel by putting commoners in line, with 5ft or less between then and then cleaving one of then, taking the 5ft step that the supreme cleaving allowed then cleaving the next, taking the 5ft step... until he traveled the entire line of poor commoners, all in one round... I imagined the scene and it looked... spooky, at least... |
| Slayer of Angels04-28-05, 01:31 PM | This only works if the DM is lenient... Up against the BBEG? No problem! Do it the kamikaze way! Step 1: Have scroll of wish used. Step 2: Wish for the tarrasque to wake up and appear right in front of the BBEG. Step 3: Huck a bag of holding totally full of salve of Bull's Strength on Tarrasque. Step 4: Do whatever you can to run for the hills! Step 5: Have a very good explanation for when the ruler of the immediate neighboring nation questions you about a sizeable chunk of his country having a gigantic bite missing out of it. I gotta try this when I walk into the city of Greyhawk. That's a news headline right there: "Tarrasque summoned in town hall!" Or on a smaller scale note, you know the old trick of leaving a bucket full of water on a barely open door? (for those not familiar with this one, the door is cracked just enough to put a bucket of water on top of it. Someone comes through it effectively knocking the bucket over and purging it's contents all over them.) Well.. Call me crazy (That wouldn't be a lie) but what if the bucket of water were replaced by say a gallon jug of acid or alchemist's fire? Prank on an annoying Paladin (ever notice it's the paladin who's connonly targeted as "annoying" to say the least?): In his sleep, empty his vials of healing potion. Drink them, whatever. Refill the vials with equal amounts of alchemist's fire. Who sang that song? "And it burns, burns, burns; that ring of fire, that ring of fire." Ooh, Need a quasi-cursed item but no spellcasting ability? That's an easy one. Fill some article of clothing with Sovereign Glue. Stay-put socks anybody? Coat a large piece of cloth with Soverign glue, throw it on a dragon's face. Coat another large piece of cloth with Soverign glue, wrap someone in it. Best yet: Coat someone with Soverign Glue, throw them on a dragon's face! :D |
| Carbine04-28-05, 11:41 PM | Evil, nothing but evil seems to pour out from this thread. I mean I'm a republican, I know evil, but you people you people make me look like girl scout, granted girl scouts are still plenty evil (hording those cookies all year long) but you people are like Nixon level evil on steroids. Still we as evil, whether you are lawful, neutral, or chaotic, or even if you're not evil and just chaotic neutral (personaly I see this as sociopathic) we can come up with things far more evil and destructive like useing a wish spell to give a BBEG explosive diharea (jeezus I'm suffering from it and I can't spell it). Something I let my players do: Human catapult We had a character who was medium size with an item that gave him the ability of a creature 3 size catagories bigger (he wanted super strength but I figured this was a bit less cheap than upping his actual strength). and his idea of how to cause pain and suffering was to find any item that had an effect area and toss it into the town from about a half mile away (yes we actualy figured out how strong he had to be to do this and he was), try and imagine the town's reaction as pots filled with oil and set on fire start landing in their homes, then came the rocks, then came the living livestock, then the dead and diseased livestock (they killed a farmer outside of town) and all this before the town militia could reach them. Now tell me how much more evil do you get than tossing a live cow on top of a screaming villager? Well aside from giving the BBEG a monofilament wire and all the feats to make sure you don't leave with all your limbs. Then again Monowire is a Evil thing in and of itself, some of you may want to check it out, url is in my sig. |
| Insane Pixie04-29-05, 12:02 AM | Maybe not a questionable idea, but notable nonetheless. In session... Barbarian: I slam the halfling's head against the wall. DM: You can bull-rush him, but figuring out how to slam him... Barbarian: :exaggerated sigh: :lightbulb Ok...you are so smart and almighty. DM: Uh-huh. Barbarian: Can I use the halfling as an improvised weapon? DM: Sure...he's about 30 pounds. Well within the two-handed zone. Make opposed grapple checks. Barbarian: 25. DM: You succeed at...dominating the halfling. Barbarian: I make a sunder attempt against the wall. :D DM: ... |
| Carbine04-29-05, 10:58 AM | Two words "Rat bombs" I left my game to my girlfriend (secondary DM) for one day and she lets them stuff sealed vials into rats (dead or alive doesn't matter) and then let them loose or dumped them into an enemy hangout. I think we can all guess how people with clubs react to rats. Just glad I got there before they tried to do the same thing to a gnome. |
| Slayer of Angels05-02-05, 04:04 PM | This one came from pondering the annoyance factor regarding the Imp rogue in our party who keeps picking OUR pockets instead of the enemie's... Mr. Imp likes to crawl inside the back packs to scope it out, basically shopping. That's fine, with a godly high pickpocket score, even I'm ok with that. He's tiny, sneaky, why not use it. (it would be better if, as mentioned before, he'd just do it to enemies and folks at the taverns we're always at.) Bag of holding kills things that crawl or otherwise find their way inside (they suffocate and can't crawl out on their own). That's dandy. Heward's handy haversack looks like a backpack. ...acts like a portable hole. I'd roll a confusion check when one day I pull out a skeleton of an Imp after our stalwart little rogue had since disappeared a week ago... Guess he got zealous and forgot to ask me what kind of backpack my new character is using. (storyline: My vamp and his master took a hike to dominate a town somewhere. Gave me a chance to try out a psion Kineticist warforged. He's awfully fun.) Can't wait for that to happen. |
| twad05-02-05, 06:47 PM | you want evil stuff? as i said.. go check the Mature boards/mature think-tank/wacky cursed items. Oh and this idea of cloth, sovereing glue and a dragon face is awesome! |
| cre10038205-02-05, 07:08 PM | I remember someone on here posting this a while back, I thought that it would fit. The wizard in the party spent every gp he had to slowly build up enough chain reaction spells that on the event of his death, a powerful dagger would pass through a portal, kill someone, and then go through another portal to kill someone else. The wizard had set it up so perfectly that everyone in the world died a few seconds after he did. |
| Slayer of Angels05-03-05, 01:53 PM | At relatively low levels, a Psion Kineticist is a veritably reusable doomsday device on legs. Level 6 is a great starting point for a truly impressive display of carnage. Observe: Need: One Level 7 Psion. Int:18 Minimum. Feat: Enlarge Power or Empower Power. Power: Energy burst. Type: fire or cold. Augment: All of it! Go nova! Here's the plan: Have the good 'ol wizo cast invisibility on the party Psion. Psion walks alone into a room just heaping full of baddies of nearly any level/size/whatever. Expend Psionic focus, enlarge/empower the Energy burst. Augment: Dump every last power point into it. Each power point adds a D6 of damage to the already impressive 5D6 damage of a basic blast! By my calculations, a level 7 psion with 18 int would have a total of 60 power points. Bam! Out of nowhere the baddies all see a shimmering silouette of a figure coming out of invisibility just before being hit by either A: an 80-foot radius blast (enlarged) of 60D6+60 fire damage (That's even better than touching orbs of annihilation with Rods of cancellation)! Potentially 306 points of damage. Or B: A 40-foot blast of (58D6+58)1.5 (yes, that means times 1.5. Ouch!) of fire damage! That equals out to potentially 609 points of fire or cold damage if all 6s are rolled (a god-roll admittedly, but I'm sure something can be done to re-roll ugly results)! "Don't make me sneeze!" :headexplo *the planet rumbles as a crater the size of texas appears mysteriously beneath the Psion's feet. He wipes his nose contentedly as he falls in, taking 8D6 falling damage in the process.* |
| gorfnad the shiznit05-03-05, 03:54 PM | going off of the +5 silver decanter of endless water idea: Decanter of Endless Water - 9000gp Straw of Continuous Bless Water - 24000gp Soverign Glue - 2400gp = Undead/evil outsider killing squirt gun Geyser mode is 30 gallons per round in a stream 20ft long by 1ft wide. There are 8 pints in a gallon. One flask of Holy Water (1 pint = 1 flask) deals 2d4 points of damage to an undead/evil outsider. So 30 gallons x 8 flasks x 2d4 damage = 480d4 points of damage to undead/evil outsiders per round. Needless to say, somewhat broken |
| Dead Jester05-03-05, 04:36 PM | Slayer of Angels: there's one flaw in your otherwise cunning plan. Per the XPH a psion can't spend more than their manifester level on augmenting power, so your level 7 chap could only augment it with 7 pp. |
| Leobardis05-03-05, 07:14 PM | I'm normally coming up with killer ideas in game, unfortuanatly, the DM loves to use them. Ex..... We are hunting the BBEG in a tweaked Ravenloft setting. We walk into this room after haveing left two iron bound coffins in the room behind us (though we didn't know it). The BBEG is playing all polite and out of nowhere a note drops in front of our leader while we search a room. --------------- |............|\\\|..| |..............x.....| |...........------ | |....................| |....................| ---------------- Now our leader (x) is standing with a wall behind him, looking at a bed when this note drops out of thin air. It has some smug remark about giving up by the BBEG and, like I said he's playing polite, tells us to watch out behind us (talking about the two vampires that we bypassed). Well our leader, in character, jerks around to look at the wall behind him while I start cracking up because I forsee a symbol of something that the BBEG just tricked us into activating. My DM gets an evil smile on his face :plotting::bow: and tells me that he's coming to me for ideas in our next campaign. Another one in the same campaign. While we were still like 3 - 4th level, my DM had us in a crypt looking for clues to our main story hook. Well, one of the guys walked into a room and we all followed, and while we were busy searching the room, he decides to check out the back of the door. Low and behold he drops dead asleep, and we find that there was a symbol on the back of the door. When he wakes up, whe cut door off of it's hinges, and trim it down to shield size and take it with us. So the campaign is super scarce in magic and here we are at 3rd level walking around with a permanent symbol of sleep. :uh-huh: :nonono: :banghead: The DM was so happy when we sold it off to the church..... after about 3 more levels. :D |
| Slayer of Angels05-04-05, 05:26 PM | To the Jester fellow: Thanks, seriously, as I mentioned I'm trying out my first psionic character and little reminders like that are really important. I could use some help (take that any way you want, it's accurate no matter how you percieve it). If what you say is true, that means 2 things: I gotta get my own book instead of borrowing a teammate's so I can read more, and that the most recent fight was deathfully broken. oops. :( And the sleep ward just reminded me of a fun idea I had a long while ago: Take a sheet of leather. Make a fancy branding iron. Brand several different wards all over it. Perforate it between the wards. When the need arises, simply tear off a ward and glue it to a door or box. :D Unfortunately the only drawback was that nobody in the towns we went through had any idea what a perforation was. Guess farmers don't go to Kinko's often. |
| jaerad05-04-05, 07:18 PM | Easy perforation: Cut a lil in from each side. Fold in half and cut a lil in. Leaves you with two lil nubs holding the piece on. Yay! I was able to add to this post! :D |
| skywyze05-04-05, 10:11 PM | Ways to break the game and have evil, twisted fun while doing it: 1 - Play an Ur priest, summon one of the dozens of creatures with Wish as a spell-like ability, copy that power, tip them heftily so they don't mind coming back and let them return to their plane. Voila! Infinite free wishes. The same can be done with an Illithid Savant by eating the brain of said creature. Now go find a new gaming group since you'll likely be kicked out of your current one. 2 - Play a Illithid Savant/King of Smack/Cheater of Mystra/Blastificer/Hulking hurler/any other build that can destroy the world with a glance by level 15. Watch DM cry. 3 - Drain the Terrasque's last intelligence any way you wish. Proceed to carve off strips of terrasque meat/leather and sell it. Feel free to give it an item of sustenance too, and make sure to keep its int drained. Since it can't die without a wish, and won't starve/thirst to death, you can keep doing this indefinately. Now take ranks in Craft(Alchemy), develop heroin and lace the meat with it because you can, you evil person. 4 - Become an epic wizard with leadership, epic leadership and legendary commander and have all your followers aid you in developing and casting epic spells. Use Genesis to make your own plane for your followers if you can't get your own kingdom the old fashioned way. Properly done, with the aid of your followers, you can now cast epic spells with a spellcraft DC around 50000 by level 27. More than enough to destroy every living thing on the material plane. Now go loot. Or even better, have your followers go loot for you, since you're such a lazy bastard anyway. 5 - Become a 10th level thrallherder and instruct all your followers to work to earn you money. Assign a supervisor to them. Call him Number One. Go into stasis and return 50 years later to find you're now a billionaire. Now tell your thralls to develop sharks with friggin disintegrate-beams attached to their heads. |
| epifreak05-04-05, 11:35 PM | Okay, I've yet to see a way that this couldn't work, so any input is rather welcome. First off, spell research a special enlarge object spell that brings something up by 3 size categories. Now, shoot someone with an arrow (diminuitive object). While it's sticking in them, throw enlarge object on it, turning it into about the size of a human: instant human-sized hole in the chest of the baddies. If your DM poo-poos this on the grounds that the arrow doesn't necessarily stick in them, use arrows of burrowing. Those definitely stick in, and you get the added bonus of forcing the person to rip a human-sized arrow of burrowing out of them (damage up 3 die sizes anyone?) |
| spyderfreek05-05-05, 05:21 AM | We once had a DM give us each a spell-like of our choosing, depending on a die roll for level. One guy got polymorph other. Every monster we came across he tried to poly into a lizard. last I heard he had a yound white dragon, rust monster, and a bullette. as needed he would dispel the poly and leave the monster in an enemy's possession, usually in a way that made it look like they were the offending caster. |
| TheMagister05-05-05, 05:43 AM | Anyone old enough to remember "Paladin Stones"? Well, back in AD&D, a high-level paladin's Holy Avenger radiated a pretty potent dispel magic effect in a 15' radius. The funny was targetting a boulder with a reduce spell. The idea was to take the sling-bullet-sized boulder and sling it at the paladin. When the magically shrunken boulder hit the Dispel Magic aura (POP!) (BANG!)... Dead Paladin. TM |
| niesl05-05-05, 06:49 AM | The most questionable idea I've ever had was when the party encountered a dragon. I proposed to be made invisible by the wizard, then picked up with telekinesis by the psion-dude-with-the-telekinesis-stuff (don't much about psions..) and lifted in the air before the dragons head. Then my character would point his sword forward and the psion would smash him into the dragons head with full force, making a human spear of destruction :D |
| Slayer of Angels05-05-05, 10:29 AM | M'kay... I remember an old post talking about the possibilities of shrink spells and whatnot. One of the ideas was to cook a whole cauldron of soup, shrink the whole thing and serve it as a simple bowl of soup. Upon being consumed, the shrink spell would be dispelled. Gee, a geyser of soup spewing forth from every orifice... That'll draw a crowd. A similar idea was to find a dozen or so bowling-ball-sized items and shrink the buggers. Sprinkle it onto food. "It's seasoning!". after it's consumed... Well, if geysers of soup erupt from every orifice as per the previous idea, what would happen with a dozen or so solid items? ... Ew. Now, an interesting idea regarding the spell Time Stop and the wonderous item Soverign Glue: Cast Time Stop. Being evil, We'll assume the BBEG here is a paladin. This is a nifty way of messing with the poor bugger when you come up to him. Round 1: Glue just a corner of a premade paper with glyph of warding: insanity written on it to his forehead (with glyph facing away of course so he can't see it immediately) 2: Glue his mouth shut. 3: Glue his hand to the blade of his sword/weapon. 4: If he uses a whip or you have some rope, chain, etc. available, glue a rope around his legs. Tripping him is much more fun than gluing his feet down. 5: Put glue all over his free hand. Here's how I see this playing out: TIme Stop expires, everyone returns to normal... Except Mr. BBEG Paladin guy. If his first move is to yank the paper off of his face, he get's blasted with the insanity spell. The paper gets stuck to his palm, palm can't open then, you get the picture. (If he rolls the insanity spell to have him run away at top speed, just feel free to laugh maniacially. Attack? Roflmao) Now with blade in hand, he's not taking a swing at anyone any time soon. Otherwise, if he smartly avoids the paper, he gets negatives to his checks (everything is obscured now), and whatever he touches next with the pre-glued hand is a new piece of his anatomy. Mr. DM, shouldn't he roll a balance check? His legs are penguine-ized. Rolls decent, but the inherent "legs wrapped in glue-soaked bindings" penalty causes him to fail anyways. (Gee Mr. Paladin, you fell down. Use your "free" hand to crawl to safety. What's that? Your hand won't come up off the floor? Aww... That's too bad.) Meanwhile, he can't say anything obnoxious to his allies such as "help me" or "get the nail polish remover". Glue is fun, eh? :D |
| Baned05-05-05, 01:09 PM | You guys are providing entirely too many ideas for this DM who is gonna send a Lich at this PCs. I've already had fun with Soverign Glue previously. This actually happened. Level 5 Fighter/2 Wizard has a habit of tasting everything he finds in a vial/flask/potion ever since he found the Fire Breath potion. I described it like you would describe normal Elmer's Glue at school: "A very thick white substance." As soon as he brought it to his lips, he glued them shut. While distracted with this situation, he droped the flask, it broke and glued his foot to the floor. He cut away his boot, and they bought some Universal Solvent when they got back to town. ;) |
| Slayer of Angels05-05-05, 05:43 PM | I had a real humdinger of an idea just earlier today. The floating stronghold. This came to me when realizing that one never hears of floating or flying fortresses, lairs, houses, or even sniper stoops in the game. I mean, an assassin or otherwise stealthy/supremely accurate archer/rifleman (we play with rifles and pistols in our campaign, renaissance style) would squeal with glee at obtaining 2 to four immovable rods. Just clamber on up to a comfortable sniping altitude, have at. Then it hit me. Permanent structures built atop a series of immovable rods! Each one has a maximum capacity of 8000 pounds! Just send up a work crew with a dozen or so rods, building a temporary supply ramp supported by rods going all the way up to the "site" and begin building a wonderous item in and of itself! Now the fun part: Construct a basic adamantine base to serve as a simple landing/docking platform for flying vessels (zepplins, ornithopters, ships with Cloud Keels, etc.) Thus allowing it to be accessed after the supply ramp is removed. Give it a nifty little outcropping wide enough to support a Daern's Instant Fortress. :D |
| ReverendCow05-05-05, 09:39 PM | I once played a fighter who had the Brachiation feat. With two immovable rods, he always had "branches" to swing from. And as fast as he was, nigh uncatchable. |
| Alabran05-06-05, 01:19 AM | Maybe not a questionable idea, but notable nonetheless. :D DM: ... This cracked me up, if I ever find an opportunity to, I will do the same thing. |
| Titan W05-06-05, 01:57 AM | I tried to do this... geomancer with wings... balista... Steps: 1: Buy A Balista (The guy selling it to me said that there was a good chance If I didn't load it properly it would send me flying.. I replied "That's the idea," at this point I couldn't buy it anymore...) 2: Load yourself onto said Balista... with a longsword in hand... aim at enemies... 3: Have somone fire... make your attack using flyby attack feat... adding balista damage to mauling (Geomancer horn)... This could work... and you never need to buy balista bolts... 4: Since you are now amunition, you then say "Can I enchant myself to be a returning balista bolt of salying??" |
| zero_cool05-06-05, 03:03 PM | Created as an intelligent Item, you should do as the boomerang says, or it will come back for you... literally |
| gnomeman05-06-05, 04:48 PM | We were in dire straits...The only two characters left concious were the orc barbarian and the halfling rouge, they were surrounded by drow fighters. The orc accidently threw his weapon and didnt feel like fist fighting an army of drow... He told the others that the halfing went out in a blaze of glory :ayyyy!: --------------------- We were hired to take the head of a dragon and would not get paid until our employer had seen it. We stood no chance of actually beeting the wyrm so instead we giot a big sack, put the halfling rogue inside. We demanded the money first, he gave us the sack, we ran quickly followed by the halfling. --------------------- My halfling had rather wondering hands, and he got arrested alot :pbbbtt: He became good at sneaking out of his cell and into the room where they kept criminals equipment until they were released...our teleporting wizard helped us get rich fast |
| NinjaPenguin05-06-05, 09:06 PM | Hmm... have the Rogue X/Cleric 1 who is rather annoyed by the stuffy paladin sneak over and replace the poor sap's Cure potions with some other substance... While this has been mentioned before, i might recomend using Inflict Minor Wounds potions. Get your DM to treat your Paladin friend as 'Flat Footed' for purposes of the 'attack' and you can deal an additional number of d6 neg. energy damage. :) If your DM is a squid, anyway. |
| Rakasha#505-06-05, 09:44 PM | Great job I have a few I have wanted to try . Medium boulder+ shrink item to fine size, put in BBEG food, BBEG eats, say command word and well...goosh. Also here is one. Force cage on someone, the solid kind. Then create water inside (if they have a ring of water breathing, no problem continue to create water inside the cube (it is unbreakable) the pressure will turn him into jelly, Also try the same thing only keep adding water, water will be compressed... and compressed, and compressed, until after a 1000 or so spell maybe 10 or 100 thousand, the pressures is sufficient dispell cage the pressuree will eventually be sufficient to cause a fusion reaction and youy will get the affect of an h-bomb. Keep cast and dispell and the pressure could create a neutron star. Cast for an elven lifetime and create a singularity. Also dominate a beholder, disintergrate the world 1 10 foot cube at a time. Great for a cleric of thurzidan (I can't spell) Also try at low level soaking a rope in oil making a circle around or line in front of the party, light rope, instant obstecle. Also never understimate the molotov cocktail. Also try coating arrowing or other piercing weapons in salt, have you even felt salt rubbed into a wound, insanely painfully. Also as an assaination method not detectable by magic or poison. Try powdering glass and slipping into a salt shaker, it will be small enough to be not painful to swallow with soup but large and sharp enough to cause horribly painful intestinal bleeding. Whadya think More later Rakasha#5 OUT |
| techomage05-07-05, 01:55 AM | Wow...lots of great ideas. Here's my first attempt: 100 +1 keen spell-storing arrows: 36,700gp wand of 'true strike': 750gp 100 castings of 'flame arrow' on arrows: 10gp materials watching things burn: priceless Using the 'fiery bolt' option, at lvl 16-19 you get 4 bolts doing 4d6 fire each (touch attack reflex half) for 16d6 per spell. Add in d6+1 for the arrow itself, so each arrow does 17d6+1. Give a hasted fighter a +3 str bow, improved multishot, and have him load 10 arrows on his bow (-20 to hit) for each shot. Add a hasted lackey tapping him with the true strike wand (+20 to hit), you can get off 20 arrows/round at his normal max attack bonus. That is 20d6+80 piercing + 320d6 fire (reflex 1/2) if both shots hit. Keep in mind that the flame arrow originates from within the target so the touch attack is automatic if the arrow hits. Because it is a touch attack, it can critical (both fire and arrow damage can double) with a threat range of 15-20 if the fighter has improved crit... We used this against epic level royal mummies, who apparently have a well-founded fear of fire...and now arrows. |
| Slayer of Angels05-10-05, 02:01 PM | M'kay. This may seem a little modern, but bear with me. Reading the Anarchist's Cookbook (gawd... Need bad DND ideas, get the Millenium edition ACB. Everything from Thermite to Nicotine poisoning...) I came across the explosive bullets section. They debunked the whole "mercury in a hollow-point makes boom" myth. But it got me thinking. First off, you'll need a rifle. I'd recomment a Precise upgrade with the Gnomish crossbow scope and maybe a few other flavorful enhancements. The ammo: Werewolves, vampires and Demons bugging you? Coat it in alchemical silver. Then cast True Silver on it. Except for that anime Hellsing, I've never seen anyone snipe the supernatural. Could be fun. Just create some sort of "radio communication link" with the rest of the party. "Mathias, duck." Zing! Nasty little fey critters? Cold Iron bullets. Blap! Ever shoot locusts with a pellet gun? Similar effect. Ghosts? Immune to piercing? *sigh* there's always a catch, isn't there? Again, no problem. Ghost touch the bullets! Hmm... Does a ghost create a puff of ghost dust when it's shot or is it etherial blood spatter? If you really wanna tweak it, cast Flaming on it. Tracer bullets! Finally, is your DM a squid? :coolcthul Ask him for the rapid-loading enhancement for the rifle! (I know, only crossbows can have it. DM descretion overrules all though!) After that, see a gnome about developing a bullet that inflicts slashing damage instead. Then add vorpal. (Three Kings) "It took his head clean off. It was crazy!" |
| kuhTHOOloo05-10-05, 02:49 PM | I was playing a level 1 halfling rogue. We were in a dungeon crawl, and the sorceror in the party decided to ignore the fact that I was a rogue, and tried to open a chest by himself. He did open it, revealing a bunch of gems, but it was trapped, and a poisonous gas came out, filling a ten foot radius around him. Naturally I took a lit torch and tossed it in, creating a big burst of flame. The sorceror got toasted, and I grabbed a few sacks of gems. Party ganged up on me before I made it out though... |
| Slayer of Angels05-12-05, 12:32 PM | Get this: Earth Keel (Ship upgrade from arms and equipment guide) lets the ship travel about the earth as a regular ship does the water. Put an Earth Keel on a Gnomish Submersible. ... I have no clue how well that would work. Can a ship have 2 keels? If so, give the Gnomish Submersible both the Cloud and the Earth Keel at once. Fly through the air, travel through the water and slide through the soil all so efficiently... Just need to figure out how to get it to outer space now... Might be handy on a number of those elemental planes. Next idea: Setup: Big ugly things are after you. You go through a door and bar it somehow to give yourself some time. Get a really huge rock loosened in the wall (make sure it can like fall out and like into the sea at the bottom of the cliff now or something) Tie a rope to the rock. Tie the other end of the rope to a cloth. smear super glue all over the cloth and: A: put it on the ground so big uglies will step on it, or B: Toss it on them like a net. Once they're stuck to the cloth, kick the really heavy obbject off. If you have it set up with like a huge bag full of Load Stones in a window sill, they'll all fall out the window dragging whoever's stuck to the cloth with them. WAAAAaaaaa... splut. |
| simen_8805-12-05, 02:35 PM | A stupid idea of mine: Gnomish chain-weapons. These weapons are gnomish, funky versions of other light weapons. They have a small button at the hilt, and when you press it, a chain is released. One end is attached to the business end of the weapon, and one to the hilt. Now you have reach. |
| Ainaelin11-17-05, 05:56 PM | It's been quite a while... :bump: :P |
| Leach11-17-05, 06:37 PM | I'm surprised no one's mentioned the infamous Head of Vecna yet. (http://www.threatofghouls.com/vecna.htm) In our campaign, we were facing a bunch of golems in a cave on the Plane of Earth. The place kept getting hit by earthquakes that rained debris on us, but the most annoying part (for me) was the fact that my sorcerer/cleric couldn't bypass the stupid golems' spell resistance. So I finally started shooting at the ceiling in the hopes of knocking some rocks loose to bash the things. Yeah. It triggered a cave-in which ended up knocking me unconscious and burying me under two feet of rubble, not to mention dealing about 20 damage to the entire party. They were not happy with me afterward. |
| Ainaelin11-17-05, 07:15 PM | I'm surprised no one's mentioned the infamous Head of Vecna yet. (http://www.threatofghouls.com/vecna.htm) I had never heard of that one, but that is  I really must  and , because it is :ayyyy!: :heehee Actually, why restrain my self? :invasion: |
| Rake11-18-05, 01:31 AM | I'm surprised no one's mentioned the infamous Head of Vecna yet. (http://www.threatofghouls.com/vecna.htm) There is no part of that story I didn't like. |
