Mercuial Fullblade: come on, people

2. Elven Double Bow from Sword and Fist (I think).

I mean, come on, a bow with two strings?
Flay Crimsonwind

3. Anything ending in -chucks (for example battleaxe-chucks, greatsword-chucks, scythe-chucks).

Just wanted it out of the way, but 'tis interesting to see peoples personal chucks creations anyhow.

The anti-DM hammerbolts for crossbows. Someone had to say it.

Are we posting real weapons or ones we make up?

Noodle Whip: no damage, but really slimy and annoying
Long, Long Spear: Twice as long as a Long Spear, enough to weigh the guy down and make him lose control of a charge
Short Dagger: Shorter then a regular dagger, only so short that it's even more useless then usual

Hmm, most of the alchemical pills in complete adventurer. Non magical pills that take affect instantly, but only last for a few seconds? C'mon.

Or the 'rifled' crossbow bolts from maybe Sword and Fist I think? The ones with a string wrapped around teh bolt so that when it fires the string uncoils and spins it. Yeah right is all I have to say.
Tyler Do'Urden

Anything with a boxing glove on the end of it.

The very large rock of expeditious retreat: The bonus to your move speed just cancels out the encumberance penalty.

That was a javelin...the bolts you were thinking of from the book were tumbling bolts. They were pitted and grooved so their flight path was unpredictable. Both were interesting, but dumb ideas.

Armor spikes with an elemental burst property. :D I don't believe you don't get hurt when your armor bursts into flames/ice/whatever...

Sorry, but it's clearly stated: the wielder never gets hurt from his weapon's elemental effects.

A spiked armor with internal oriented spikes would be nice though. "Hi, honey, I've just bought a present for you! Why don't you put it on and make me see how you look with it?"

14. True story:
Player: Can i use a spatula as a weapon?
Stupid DM: Sure. It deals damage as a warhammer.

I still haven't decided which is stupider, a spatula as a weapon or a spatula dealing damage as a warhammer.

Please try to keep track of the numbers people.

Sap... nobody uses it...
Actually, the rogue in our party does. Often. And to darn good effect.
Makes capturing the bad guys easier sometimes.
Intimidate works better when you have time (they are out cold) to "set" the scene.

Sap... nobody uses it...

All my rogues characters and all the rogues characters I've been in a party with have always had 1 or 2 masterwork saps. Dual wielding those dealing 1d4 + 4d6 subdual damage per hit knocks guys out pretty quick.

The 'alchemist' in our group keeps begging for gunpowder.

One time in our island savage campaign I asked to tie two great axes together to create an orc double axe.

Also, a quote from myself. Idea obviously stolen "So all the rats are dead? Ok, I take one, tie it's tail to the pointy end of my longspear just under the spearhead, and create the extended rat flail. Has reach, does either longspear damage or 1d4 blunt rat damage, can be set against a charge, and gives me a +2 to trip attempts."

The gnome steam bow is also pretty silly. and the gyrespike.

Not technically a weapon, but the Manyshot feat.

And for a weapon, the "double-anything". I guess I could see a double-mace or whatever it's called - something basically like a weighted quarterstaff. But I have a hard time seeing a double-axe being dangerous to anyone but the wielder.

10-13-05, 12:06 AM

Not a weapon, but it's equipment.

The waterclock! I mean the PHB even says that having one causes more problems than it solves...and what is it doing in the adventurers equipment section? It's like they are daring all the int 6 barbs of the world to become strong enough to actually carry one.

10-13-05, 07:46 AM
hmm crazy equipment... I would have to go with sword chucks followed by whetstone... how many DM's make you sharpen your weapons on a regular basis.... And what about a torch of explosive runes:

Torch of explosive runes:
This torch funstions like a continual flame spell except the only way to activate it is to read the inscription on the side which says: "I prepared explosive runes today" Reading this activates the flame as well as starting an explosive runes spell which was put on the item. The explosive runes spell will detonate every time the sentance is read out and the item cannot harm itself by exploding.

+1 keen vorpal longsword of haste, cursed; curse: the item looks, feels and smells like a pink sausage.

Boots of ludicrous speed: as boots of haste, but the wearer becomes so fast that his brain drives itself into his toes.

Useless hat of mobbing: this is an intelligent item (int3, wis3, cha3) and speaks any known language. When worn it starts to insult everyone within 15 ft from it's wearer, imitating his/her voice.

hmm crazy equipment... I would have to go with sword chucks followed by whetstone... how many DM's make you sharpen your weapons on a regular basis....

I always make sure to have one on me at all times and will often replace it between adventures. Just a roleplaying thing I guess.

just the term "silk armor" makes me think it's an oxymoron... with emphasis on Moron...

bag of tricks, any of them, have never really used that and been satisfied...

From what I hear, the mongols use to wear silk armor under their regular armor since it would help against infection and pulling out arrows or something.

And the bag of tricks has saved me numerous times. any time I botch a move silently roll but not my hide, I throw down a fuzzy bunny.

*rustle rustle*
Orc: What dat?
*badger walks out of bushes"
Orc: Oh, just furry critter
*Orc turns the other way and gets sapped. Double sapped even*
Me: (In my native badger tongue) Good work my burrowing friend.
Badger: chuck chuck.

The Kama chucks from Ninja Gaiden were a bit silly. And the pump sprayer from Arms and Equipment did less damage than just throwing holy water or alchemist fire on them.

That gives me an idea! Sap chucks.

The best worst answer was, of course, implied by the original post:

SWARM-CHUCKS, YO!!!!

(Even dumber than gnome-chucks that effectively get Spell-Storing for free since the gnomes are obviously holding the charge on their touch spells; at least one can almost visualize that...)

I can't believe I just posted that.
(goes home, slaps self silly)

You mean, you guys think the Spiked Chain Chucks are silly? Seriuosly, though, the Dwarven Buckler Axe. Seeing as you can't use it as a weapon AND keep the AC, what was the point, again? Might as well use a Spiked Buckler. It would actually work better, and doesn't require a feat to use.

dont'd dis my Gnome Chucks!Assuming you're referring to my post above, I wasn't dissing gnome-chucks at all. Reread it and I think you'll see I was actually complimenting them, by calling them smarter than swarm-chucks.

Swarm-chucks are also dumber than Albert Einstein, after all... :)

You read "Order of the Stick" don't you? (Halfling FUN!!!!! :nonono: )

But for stupid/strange equipment ideas, let me check my file folders of those. :D Hmmmmm... ahh here we go. My dumbist idea inspired by MoI.

The Mantle of Flame sword;cursed:every time the user of this sword makes a sucsesful melee attack the user takes 10d6 fire damage. When every the posseser of this sword attempts to draw anthor weapon this weapon ends up there han insted. :D

I saw gnome-chucks mentioned, and here's one in true Diablo II fashion:

Gnome-chucks - Craft DC 5, requires a successful grapple check vs. 2 gnomes while chaining them together with MW manacles.
Requires 22 STR and Large size to avoid incurring massive penalties to attack rolls.

MW manacles: 50 gp
Meathead Ogre lackey : 1/2 cp/day
Real honest-to-goodness gnome-chucks used in combat: Priceless :D

Hmm...

Chuck-chucks! you get a whateverchuck, and stick on a third one!

and now for some things i've thought of, or seen

Improvised weapons - I had a barbarian want to use a messed-up chandelier he'd stolen from a huge tavern brawl as a weapon. It was pretty in character, so i let him use it to deal 1d6 bludgeoning, no STR bonus, double-handed. He then asked if he could throw the candles, and i said yes. But they did no damage.

along similar lines, i've ruled a glass or china drinking vessel deals 1 point of bludgeoning and 1 point or slashing depending on if it breaks, then makes the 5-foot square it lands in deal 1 point of piercing if it's run through.

We havewaaaay too many tavern brawls. Yep. :ayyyy!:

now for my ideas. Hulking hurler + a wagon, anyone? and this seems to be focussing too much on weapons. Gear Time!

The Ring of Warning. This ring can detect hostile feelings in a 50-foot radius, and warns the wearer in a loud voice if they're hiding and thus cannot see the enemy.
Cost: 12000 GP. Spells to create - M's faithful hound, Stupidity.

+5 Vorpal Whang, anyone? "You roll a natural 20 on your, umm... constitution check"
'oh bugger, i killed her, didn't i?'

also, does anyone ever think about maybe stopping people going elven spy? (boots + cloak of elvenkind) on an elven rogue?

when i told my brother about this thread he immediately suggested grenade-chucks.

actual items:
-half-plate; full plate cost more, but outstrips it in every other feature (for the same weight even!).
-gyrspike; how in the 'eck can anyone use one of these without smashing thier own face or cuting off thier own arm?
-vial (ink or potion); who has actually had to purchase the vials for the the potions they craft? a few strict DM's maybe, but i'd expect that the whetstone gets more use.
-brooch of shielding; why? at the very least it could be 101 point of force damage, but magicv missile? (it may be a mainstay low level spell, but how often could you actually buy this item before your enemies would be casting fireball? by then magic missile is either for mopping up or times when missing means death).
-most poison; why? because poison costs are almos always much higher than thier use, except for a few, and thier save DC's are to low for higher level play (what CR 18 creature fears a DC 14 save? most of the poor-fort savers have a bonus of +8 to +12, or even more, let alone those with good fort saves) same for the wounding enhancement. of course poison is somewhat useful at lower levels (when it's too expensive to bother with for the most part).

ideas:
-item crafting resources; ever gotten 100 Gp worth of alchemist's fire ingredients for payment? processed it is 15 flasks of alch. fire, but currently, useless. :D
-eternally empty bag of holding, cursed; when first studdied, the item appears to hold an unlimited amount of objects, and this is the truth. unfotunatly, these item's can't be recovered. they are lost into the bag forvever (or until the bag is destroyed- this dumps the contents into random sections of the astral plane).
-myrlund's spoon, cursed; this item appears to be a murlynd's spoon, and performs in a similar manner, except that item can produce an unlimited amount of gruel, and that the gruel produced has no nurishing value whatsoever (tastes like wet cardboard and actually less nurishing).
-periapt of proof against poisson, cursed; this item appears to be a peraipt of proof against poison, but instead prevents the wearer from ever eating fish, or any dish that ontains fish. as allergies don't exist in D&D, this is useless, though a flaw of allergies might actually make this item useful
-ring of rock falling, cursed; this item appears to be a ring of feather falling, but instead the wearer falls at an accellerated rate (300ft for the first round, and 600ft for any further rounds).
-vest of escaping, cursed; this item appears to be a vest of escape, and fucntions in the same manner, except that if not worn overnight it is gone in the morning. if the item is worn while sleepong, the wearer must succeed a DC 30 reflex save or the item is gone by morning. it escaped alright. note that the vest of escaping has no destination, it's magic just prevents it from being owned- the vest can usually be found within a mile of wherever it escaped from.
-ceiling wax; wouldn't floor wax do just as well?

2. Merciful Sap(???)

Well...presumably, you want to make sure your sap does absolutely no lethal damage. Enchanting it with Merciful allows you to not only add on another d6 damage, but energy (flaming, icy, electric) as well.
