| Titan W01-21-06, 11:24 PM | Yes another one. This is a list of 1001 broken items that people either create or are easily abused, or destroy games. 1) Deck of Many Things, Both Good and Bad - we all know this one... 2)Permanent Weapon of True Striking - No, that +20 to attack is not priced as a level 1 spell in my game. 3) No anything of "Animate Object" as a permanent effect with 3 uses/day (About 374000 gp). You animate 3 grains of sand a day as fine creatures and in a year that's 365x3 creatures (1095) have that in backstory for 10 years and... 10,950 grains of sand... use aid another for AC on half... well nanobots... and they don't even attack as a swarm... (This can be done with anything that would probably have 1/10,950th of a hit die... well actually about 13 times that (CL 13 so 1/842nd of a hit die... since I don't remember ever seeing a MINIMUM cap on them...) that's one nasty number of attacks. (If they are wood chips (Read diminutive creatures with fine quarterstaves) get an item that casts Sheilah at will as a 1st level druid for about 160,000 (I assume you craft some yourself or with wish etc to save some GP, or wait until epic) for each dealing 1D6 damage x 10,950 attacks (Granted only 1/20th hit but that's still 4000D6+4000 average damage as an effective free action, as each animated object acts on its own.)(Read 18,000 damage as a free action (Pre-epic) distributed how you see fit) |
| Koda7701-21-06, 11:47 PM | Okay, I have one thing to say the sword of truestriking is not broken, several reason 1 you use a round to activate 2 it only is 1 attack 3 chances are they have moved away from you and if they leave more than your double movemnt(charge) its wasted unless another target is nearbye and another thing the dmg states that their system is just a guide use common sense now of course if you play in ebberon and have an artifecer create you a quickened true striking sword use activated thennnnnnnnnn its broken but again it would also have the cost of the new caster level and spell level and again common sense |
| Titan W01-22-06, 12:28 AM | not true permanent effect means that it is constantly active spell-like effect and doesn't stop granting the +20, it's not an activated item, that's why it's broken (and only costs 8200 gp or so) so with TWF and two of these a 10th level fighter gets a +30, +17, +28 and +24 full attack with a pair of swords, not broken at all... Or use a bow, that's +20 to a +10 attack (+30) if you have the feat that allows unlimited range increments, that's +1100 range max, or use rapid shot and always still have +18 on your attack, or even many shot with +20 as our attack bonus because you spent your BAB of +10 on 5 attacks, or use it on a Balista, +20 on a siege weapon attack isn't bad with 3D6 damage, you get the idea. The process of creation is to create an item with a spell Effect item True strike from a 1st level caster that's 1*1*2000 then *4 for continuous and *2 for a round measured duration. (so 16,000gp) but CREATED that's only 8000gp and XP for an unslotted it's 2.5 times that, so casters could use it for all touch attack and ray spells also, virtually negating that need. In addition, my other item isn't sensible either these are UNusable items for a reason... (+16,000 gp is a +4 bonus cost, that's only +4 to attack and damage) |
| terrashand01-22-06, 12:38 AM | Decanter of endless bad jokes? :D |
| Arkenthras01-22-06, 12:56 AM | (+16,000 gp is a +4 bonus cost, that's only +4 to attack and damage) You're looking at the wrong table for magical modifier costs, man. Those costs are for armor, for weapons, it's double. A +4 weapon has a cost of +32,000gp, not +16,000gp. Edit: Nevermind, you're talking about creation cost, not store cost. |
| TheDragonmaster01-22-06, 05:53 AM | The Permanent True Striking Sword/Bow requires that the DM makes a very special call about letting the player create it. This is why: PHB says [Duration: See text] DM says: This is an instaneous effect that adds +20 to your next attack within one round. Munchkin says: This is a one-round effect that I am allowed to abuse for less than the cost of a +2 flaming longsword. It's all a matter of interpretation. The 3/day is allowed, the permanent is not. Of course, the 3/day is still abused with Called Shots and whatnot, but that is the Called Shots system and not the True Strike spell that is broken. I hope this offends some munchkins. |
| Morotis01-22-06, 10:59 AM | so this is a list of items people use to Munchkinize.... 5) Bottle of Thought... 6) Any Artifacts, never, EVER! introduce any Artifacts... |
| Watchdog_of_Hades01-22-06, 03:58 PM | Now technically, the thread is "unuseable items," so I made an unuseable one and a broken one. Hm... And one that's in both categories. Unuseable: A car. The keys and fan are missing. Broken: Sword of Flesh to Stone, Stone to Mud, Mud to Stone, in that order, standard action for full sequence. The enemy is technically still alive (just pertrified), so they can't be resurrected, and A Stone to Flesh will give you a pet medium-sized flesh jelly. Both: A broken engine block. |
| Mafala01-22-06, 06:21 PM | How do you get a weapon with True Strike cast on it with permanency? The spell is very specific in the PHB about what can be made permanent and True Strike is NOT on the list. Am I missing some other info from some other book or Class? |
| CommanderFalken01-22-06, 06:30 PM | 2)Permanent Weapon of True Striking - No, that +20 to attack is not priced as a level 1 spell in my game. Wait... this is a real weapon? I thought it was a joke. |
| Titan W01-22-06, 07:49 PM | It's not the permanacy spell... look in creatnig magic items in the DMG (or SRD) you can create a constant premanent spell effect for a level 1 spell for about 8200 gold (Plus some XP) you use true strike on any weapon with this enchantment (or double it at highe levels and make it slotless, thus granting ALL attacks a +20 to atack rolls (even those of spells, and with the feat that turns touch spells into 20 foot rays..) |
| theplaidknight01-22-06, 08:38 PM | Ummm .... 3.0 splatbooks? On a slightly more serious note I bet there are a thousand hilarious uses for a Decanter of Endless Water but I can't think of any really broken ones right now. P.S. The whole concept of Nanobots just makes me shudder, RAW or not. Aren't animated objects mindless like golems? And I'll put in another vote that that Sword of True Striking idea is a joke and not feasible by the RAW. |
