hey folks, let's think of some ways to simulate magic equiptment without magic.

for the record ideas that are not that structurly realistic are just fine (WotC streches phisics all the time)

1)create a special longsword (or whatever I guess) that contains a a chaimber you can store alchemist fire in. the chaimber is conected by toobs to small wholes down the length of the blade, so that when the chaimber is opened the blade becomes coverd in flame.

a longsword with one side of the blade steel and the other rubber so it can deal non-lethal damage whenever you want (instead of the merciful enchantment)

a weapon with some kind of hand powered generator so you wind it up and it gets an electric charge

ah, i cant really come up with anymore

Actually, in one book (Complete Adventurer, I believe) there are rules for alchemical potions that temporarily give your weapon the _____ property.

6) weapon with spiked clamp in it to rip the crap out of someones chest and cause bleeding like the wounding ability

7) as #1 but holy water instead of alchemists fire: holy weapon

I like the Parthian rapier myself (Ravenloft Campaign Setting). It's a rapier with a pistol built in - you can fire the pistol as a free action if you hit with the rapier. :D

Complete Adventurer has Weapon Capsules that let you make your weapon do fire/cold/electric damage (or all 3) for a round, dealing 1d6 per capsule (up to 3).

In Rurouni Kenshin, wasn't Shishio(that guy in bandages) able to set the blade of his sword on fire by igniting the oil on it using friction?:P

Heavy aspergillum from Races of Faerun is a handy weapon for priests (or to anyone for that matter). It's basically a heavy mace with a perforated head for dispensing holy water (or how about contact poison) when it strikes an opponent.

Overly sharpen your sword to make it Keen. Mount a tiny rocket on the end of an arrow triggered to fire at the hight of accent to increase it's range (distance). Put some liquid nitrogen in the point of an arrow (frost). Do the same thing but fill the whole arrow and make it shatterable (freezing burst).

I'm quite fond of the oil-on-the-sword thing for flaming swords, though I don't know how you'd do the other elements. Gandalf was able to absorb a lightning bolt with Glamdring for a lightning-damage strike on the Balrog during their battle in LOTR, but one, Gandalf is a wizard, and two, Glamdring is pretty damn magical anyway.

I think he said something about killing so many that the oil/fat from the people seeped into the blade, so it would become highly flammable.

How about extra padding over the vital areas in armor to simulate light/medium/heavy fortification
