| FrostHammer09-23-07, 06:32 PM | Ok, I've got access to the DMG, Magic item comp, and 15k to spend, with no more than 3.5k spent on any one item. What kind of items should every self-respecting Barbarians have? |
| Watchman09-23-07, 06:54 PM | Wenches. ...what ? |
| FrostHammer09-23-07, 06:59 PM | Wenches do not cost 3.5k :D |
| dman1123509-23-07, 07:06 PM | What kind of barbarian? |
| Watchman09-23-07, 07:14 PM | Wenches do not cost 3.5k :DThink about it - you can shop for both quality and quantity. Money, after all, is a well-proven aphrodisiac. :P |
| FrostHammer09-23-07, 07:35 PM | What kind of barbarian? Charger. |
| j3st3r09-23-07, 07:43 PM | Magic Item Compendium has a lot of good items and while these aren't the best ones, they're still good, especially for barbarians: - Bear Helm - Cloak of Predatory Vigor - Mask of Blood |
| FrostHammer09-23-07, 08:53 PM | What about weapons and armor? |
| j3st3r09-24-07, 04:28 AM | with 3,5k max to spend I'd say +1 armor and +1 weapon :P Augment Crystals from Magic Item Compendium are an inexpensive way to increase your armors/weapons abilities; Iron Ward Diamond or Restful Crystal to your armors, Crystal of Energy Assault or Crystal of Life Drinking to your weapons. |
| FrostHammer09-24-07, 10:21 AM | Hmm, the Iron Ward Diamond seems interesting, but my character's concept is one that is lightly armored...I wonder if I can put a Lesser diamond into a Mithril Breastplate or something. Probably not. The Crystal of Life drinking is good, I think I'll go with that one. |
| mvincent09-24-07, 12:59 PM | Ok, I've got access to the DMG, Magic item comp, and 15k to spend, with no more than 3.5k spent on any one item. What kind of items should every self-respecting Barbarians have?1) Amulet of natural armor +1 2) Ring of protection +1 3) +1 weapon 4) Cloak of resistance +1 5) Handy haversack 6) Potion of enlarge 7) Wand of cure light wounds (for allies to use on you) |
| FrostHammer09-24-07, 08:17 PM | What exactly does enlarge do in practical terms? It ups my damage I know that much. Does it actually help me land a hit or does being big kind of negate that? I think I have more reach as well. |
| QOShea09-24-07, 10:54 PM | Something everyone should have, especially if they skimped on Suvival. Everfull Mug Everlasting Rations |
| FrostHammer09-24-07, 11:33 PM | Where would I find them? |
| j3st3r09-25-07, 03:40 AM | Where would I find them? Magic Item Compendium. Ring of Sustenance (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/rings.htm#sustenance) is much better. Also Magic Bedroll and Healing Belt are a must have for any self-respecting adventurer. |
| Savenger09-25-07, 07:44 AM | Enlarge Person is good for a number of things. You lose-1 Attack due to size, but gain it back through plus 2 strength. Strength increases damage (sometime buy plus 2 if using a 2 handed weapon and the numbers are right). It gives a bonus to grapple thanks to size (handy if ever in a feild of evards black tenticles). If you need to reach something, it can help If you need to carry something a short distance (such as a fallen party member) it is very useful. And of course your weapons go up by a catagory in damage. Finally, theres nothing like being a 12 foot raging barbarian hurling into that enemy wizard are warp 5, picking him up by his ears and then crushing his skull. Savenger |
| FrostHammer09-25-07, 09:53 AM | Well, I don't have improved Grapple...but if I have 10 foot range, do I still provoke an AoO when I initiate a grapple? |
| Easalyamusedoldman09-25-07, 10:06 AM | 15k worth of Strong liqure and cheap women. |
| mvincent09-25-07, 12:03 PM | What exactly does enlarge do in practical terms?Reach. Having a barbarian threaten say, a 50' wide area (i.e. the entire battlefield) with a spiked chain can pay big dividends. Also, the size increase adds +4 to grappling, tripping, sunder, bull-rush etc. |
| JordMornit09-25-07, 01:01 PM | I,m a fighter 14/ Barbarian 1, things that help you swing back will help. The Bracesrs of Counter strike I find is very helpful. It allows you to have an immediate attack of opportunity against a foe who swings and misses you, this attack does not count against your amount of attacks of opportunity, cost is like 2.5k or so, it has 2 or three charges per day. Also if you have combat reflexes and Robilars Gambit and have a DEX of say 16 +3 you would get 6 extra attacks in a round plus your full attack. |
| mpauna09-25-07, 10:47 PM | One thing to note, the "Counterstrike Bracers" can't be used while raging. The activation is "Immediate (command)", and a raging barbarian unfortunately can't activate any command-word activated items. I know, that seems harsh. Personally, I would prefer it if a raging barbarian could activate command-word items with an immediate, swift or free action. As it is, no bracers of great collision, belts of a single mighty blow, brutal or energy surge weapons, or even boots of speed. :weep: |
| FrostHammer09-26-07, 12:15 AM | eh...pray that the GM allows it? But I've already decided on my equipment. Boot of the Battle Charger (2000g, MIC p76) Gloves of Dexterity +1 (2000g) Cloak of Predatory Vigor (1400g, MIC p87) Amulet of Natural Armor +1 (2000g) Bracers of Wraithstrike (2400g) (1/day swift mental action Wraithstrike ability) Iron Ward Diamond, Least (500g, MIC p26) Crystal of Life Drinking, Lesser (1500g, MIC p64) Potion of CLW x3 (150g) Potion of Enlarge Person x6 (300g) Longbow (75g) +1 Chain Shirt (1100g) +1 Falchion (2075g) Mundane equipment that I won't bother listing. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! |
| Platstud09-26-07, 04:25 PM | Gloves of Dexterity +1 (2000g) Where did you get the price for these? In the campaigns I play in and run, this wouldn't be allowed at all, but if it is the price would normally be 1,000gp not 2,000gp. |
| Holy_Beholder09-26-07, 09:25 PM | Its 2000. The formula for stat boosters is (bonus)(2000 bonus). That gives 2000, 8000, 18000, 32000, and 72000. Weapons on the other hand are (bonus)(1000bonus). Thats probably the confusion. |
| FrostHammer09-26-07, 11:56 PM | Actually, weapons are the same formula as well. It's ARMOR and shields that are (bonus)^2 *1000 |

Thats probably the confusion. Actually, stat boosters(assuming the correct slot), are (bonus)^2 x 1000gp. So are armour and shields. Weapons are (bonus)^2 x 2000gp. http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#glovesofDexterity You obviously knew that weapons were Weapons are (bonus)^2 x 2000gp, because you priced your falchion correctly. |
| FrostHammer09-27-07, 10:00 AM | Huh, you're right. |
