| Black Mantha03-22-07, 03:05 AM | You can use an arrow as a melee weapon with a -4 penalty to attack. So why not use a +5 flaming burst speed dagger? You still get +1 to your attack, with 1d4+5+1d6 damage, speed, and 20/x2+1d10 criticals, all for the low price of 4000 gp. And just to clarify, no I wouldn't allow or even attempt it. I'm just wondering if there are any actual rules against this. |

Magic Ammunition and Breakage When a magic arrow, crossbow bolt, or sling bullet misses its target, there is a 50% chance it breaks or otherwise is rendered useless. A magic arrow, bolt, or bullet that hits is destroyed. Emphasis added. Edit: Also, I don't see anything in the rules about being able to enchant just one arrow for 1/50th the cost. Presumably, you'd still have to pay the 200k to enchant the 50stack. |

You must pay the full cost as for all melee weapons, and it is not destroyed on impact. |
| runestar03-22-07, 05:02 AM | Arrows: An arrow used as a melee weapon is treated as a light improvised weapon (–4 penalty on attack rolls) and deals damage as a dagger of its size (critical multiplier x2). Arrows come in a leather quiver that holds 20 arrows. An arrow that hits its target is destroyed; one that misses has a 50% chance of being destroyed or lost. I think you are allowed to craft individual arrows (no way am I going to pay for 50 arrows of slaying of the same type...:P ). But since each arrow is expended after it hits its target... Not quite feasible in the long run. |

And if you're crafting them individually, it would only cost 2,000gp (or 1,500 with Extraordinary Artisan). Might be handy for crafting just-the-right one-shot weapon if you know you're going up a particular foe. Even a single +5(-4) undead-bane anarchic holy arrow(/dagger) could be quite deadly to a mummy lord (1d4+2d6+2d6+2d6+7). But, you're probably better off .. you know... shooting them from a bow. |
| rastlin_of_the_tomes03-22-07, 07:08 AM | ok, first do you mean you are using the arrow as a dagger or you want a one shot dagger? first off the arrow thing is meant to be shot not melee'd and a one shot dagger is just stupid. a magic dust that enchants for 1 hit might be a better idea. |
| runestar03-22-07, 07:16 AM | Arrows can be used in melee, albeit at a penalty.:) It was designed to be fired from a bow, but that does not mean you cannot stab with it if a situation is dire enough.:) |
| The_sleeper103-22-07, 07:48 AM | Just thinking, you could use the same cost of arrows to make a one shot magic weapon of any type. |
