If I am right handed and I am wearing a buckler on my left forearm and weilding a two handed weapon, does the -1 to attack roll from a buckler apply?

I would think not. It is my understanding or interpretation that the -1 on attack rolls incurred from the the wearing of a buckelr is only applied to weapons weided one handed with the same arm that the buckler is on.

You get the -1 penalty and you also lose the buckler's AC bonus for the round.

course theres a feat in Complete warrior that lets yeah keep the buckler's AC when you attack... I think. Worth it if you got a +5 buckler.

I belive this feat only works with you wield 2 weapons, otherwise you could use it with a bow

and an archer with a buckler +5, a bow +5 and arrows filled with enchantments seems kind of overpowered to me.
altough sound pretty cool. for a BBEG.

The description of the buckler in the PHB says it all. the Improved buckler feat from Complete warrior only helps a wielder of two weapons. So, you get a -1 to attack rolls and you lose the AC bonus for the rest of the round once you attack with a weapon in two hands. You could use a bow with it strapped on, but that is a two handed weapon also, so once you fire, you lose the AC bonus.

Hope that clears it up!

the Improved buckler feat from Complete warrior only helps a wielder of two weapons. So it would still work if you were wielding a two-handed weapon and armor spikes?

Improved Buckler Defence lets you keep the bonus from the buckler when you attack with a two handed weapon or a weapon in your off hand. The feat lets you keep the bonus when you fight with a weapon in your off hand, and a two hand weapon is in both your primary and off hand therefore it applies. Further I don't think this is just rules lawyering, since if it was ment only for two weapon fighting it sems that some two weapon fighting feat, something to do with rangers, or some dexterity score would be tied to the requirements to take the feat, none of which are.

Further I don't think this is just rules lawyering, .... Well, a bow is also used in your off hand, but it doesn't take the -1 attack penalty. It seems to me that the reasonable ruling would be that, if you face the -1 attack penalty for fighting with the buckler, then the Improved Buckler feat lets you keep it's AC.

That seems the best rule of thumb on it... if you suffer the penalty you get the bonus and vicey-versy

Well, laugh it up gang, this does not happen very often. My original post concerning this issue has an error in it :gah: . I stated that the I buckler defence does not help when using a weapon two handed, but only if you wielded a weapon in each hand. :nonono: This statement was absolutely false :banghead: . The description of the buckler made it clear that using a weapon in the off hand could be a solitary weapon in that hand or the using of both hands on one weapon. Therefore, the feat will allow you to retain the AC bonus when using any weapon in both hands or two different weapons in both hands. You are still stuck with the -1 attack penalty though, unless firing a bow. If we are talking about armor spikes here, then they will have to be located on the arm to qualify, otherwise, you are just being a silly munchkin. :OMG! an archer can use a buckler for AC and still attack. Of course, no real archer worth anything would actually need this extra protection :schemes: .
