ENDLESS TOME
Price (Item Level): 25,000 gp (9th)
Body Slot: – (held)
Caster Level: 9th
Aura: Moderate; (DC 19) Conjuration [creation]
Activation: Continuous; swift (see below); special (see below)
Weight: 2 lbs

This book has beautiful designs and hard covers. However, when opened, there always seems to have extra pages, as if there was no end to this book.

This tome has an infinite number of pages, allowing anyone to write a limitless number of words, including spells. A wizard records his spells in the book as normal, but when he turns the page, a new blank page is always available, meaning he can write anything he wishes without worrying about the number of remaining pages. When he needs a particular spell, he mentally speaks a thought command word and the pages rearrange themselves to present the desired spell.

Although this item is useful to wizards, anyone can write and use the tome as normal. For instance, an archivist could use the endless tome as his prayer book or an artificer could use one to record his research.

Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, Minor Creation
Cost to Create: 12,500 gp, 1,000 XP, 13 days

EVERFULL ENCYCLOPAEDIA
Price (Item Level): 9,000 gp (9th)
Body Slot: – (held)
Caster Level: 9th
Aura: Moderate; (DC 19) Conjuration [creation]
Activation: Continuous; 1 full round or more; swift (see below)
Weight: 2 lbs

This book has clear crystal lens in the middle of the front cover. However, when opened, the pages are blank.

This encyclopaedia can write information about anything the lens focuses on. As a full-round action, the user can point the book, the lens facing a creature or an object of which the user has line of sight. If pointed toward a creature, the encyclopaedia records text based on the monster lore section. The book starts with info as if it rolled 10 on any Knowledge check. Each round thereafter, if the user still points the lens, the “roll” increases by 5, thus revealing additional information about this particular creature.

If pointed toward a non-magical object, the encyclopaedia records information about it the same way it does for creatures, if Knowledge checks are applicable. If pointed toward a magic item, the encyclopaedia takes 1 minute (10 rounds) to identify it as per the identify spell. After this time, the encyclopaedia records additional information based on Knowledge checks if applicable.

Should the user stop pointing the book toward something, the book keeps the info it has gathered. Should the user points it again toward the same subject, the book simply resumes its recordings where it stopped.

After recording, the user can mentally speak a thought command word to get the right subject in the book. Furthermore, the book has an endless number of pages.

Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, Identify, Minor Creation
Cost to Create: 4,500 gp, 360 XP, 5 days

They look like cool, interesting items.
I'm not very good at pricing my own things, but... the Endless Tome does look a bit expensive...
I mean, having an endless supply of paper isn't going to be gamebreaking, is it?

I mean, having an endless supply of paper isn't going to be gamebreaking, is it?Well, I'm not that good at pricing at well, but being able to replace 5-6 spellbooks by a single book is kinda useful: less searching and less weight in the backpack.

Oh sure. It's useful. But, if the only advantage is less weight carried, you should probably compare the price to that of a bag of holding.

I'm away from my books, so I can't be more helpful than that atm. :)

The item level of one of the tomes is certainly wrong, if the prices are accurate.

As for pricing, the Boccob's Blessed Book has a total of 1,000 pages and costs 12,500gp. I'm not sure that 72k (which is nearly six times that amount) is fair based on that price; I'd be inclined to set it much lower, since once you get past a certain point there will be no benefit from adding pages. That being said, I don't know where you get to that point.

One character of mine, with the Collegiate Wizard feat, hasn't filled 300 pages worth of spells at 13th level wizard casting. And he's added several extra spells to his book recently. He won't have half-filled the book by 20th level, even if he takes his next four levels as a wizard (He's a Mystic Theurge for character concept reasons).

Well, the item level is based on the caster level used to make the item; the price can be adjusted as you see fit.

Fixed the Endless Tome's price.

Well, the item level is based on the caster level used to make the item; the price can be adjusted as you see fit.Actually, it's not based on caster level.

The item level is purely "The level of a character that might reasonably be expected to have an item of this cost." The term is explained on p226 of the MIC, which explicitly states that Item Levels have nothing to do with caster level.

FYI a 72k item is a 19th level item under this system; a 25k item is 15th.

I don't use the system; I don't like it at all. This is one of the reasons why.

Contents Contents Market
Bag Bag weight weight limit volume limit price
Type 1: 15 lbs. 250 lbs. 30 cu. ft. 2,500 gp
Type 2: 25 lbs. 500 lbs. 70 cu. ft. 5,000 gp
Type 3: 35 lbs. 1,000 lbs. 150 cu. ft. 7,400 gp

Does the Endless Tome also negate the cost of writing spells as Boccob's Blessed Book?

This is the only reason I get one as a wizard. 100gp per page can get pretty damn expensive.

So... it's like a D&D pokedex?

:D, but nah, a D&D "pokedex" would be:

Crystal ball, optional red & white / clear colouring (sorry, rolling an oracle PC atm, so got mysticism on the brain)
Silent / Minor image - for projecting image of said beastie (optional upgrade)
Magic mouth / Create sound - to mimic beastie's noise and David Attenbourogh (sp?) commentary.
geography / survival / omniscience (500) - to know every region on the plane where said beastie lives.

... sorry. Just never figured out why only Xykalon had a tivo in D&D.
