| TheBigShow01-23-07, 11:34 AM | if i am in melee with an entity that has a 5 foot threat range, does my free 5 foot step invoke an attack of oppurtunity? regardless, i would be out of threat range afterwards, and i wouldn't need to make a concentration check on casting a spell (unless i took damage), correct? i also read you can make a light, off-hand attack with spiked armor. would i still receive a -1 to hit from using a buckler, and would i still get the loss of ac from the buckler for 1 round? thanks, guys. |
| Vegepygmy01-23-07, 11:37 AM | A 5-foot step never provokes an attack of opportunity, no matter what your opponent's reach is. And yes, you'd be out of your opponent's reach afterward, so nothing you do (including casting a spell) could provoke an attack of opportunity from him. Regarding the buckler, yes and yes. |
| TheBigShow01-23-07, 01:38 PM | regarding the 5-foot step, i could move back into range on my next turn for melee without giving up an aoo? combat casting sucks. |
| RavenDrake01-23-07, 02:15 PM | regarding the 5-foot step, i could move back into range on my next turn for melee without giving up an aoo? combat casting sucks. Yes. To the best of my knowledge, the 5ft "repositioning" step never provokes an attack of opportunity, however you can ONLY take that step on a turn in which you make no other movement. That means you can draw a sword(move action normally), 5ft step to melee range, and make an attack. OR you can 5ft step back out of melee range, drop your weapon(free action) and quickdraw a bow(free action) to make a Full Attack Action (full round action). You can even quickdraw your two shortswords(free action) take your first primary and first offhand attack(which requires using the full attack action) drop that foe and take a 5ft step and finish your attacks on a second foe. However, if you should move in any way of your own accord(charging, running, flying, using telekenisis to thrust yourself foward) then you lose the option to make a 5ft step. |
