Can someone please step me through this scenario: 9th level Fighter: Str: 14 (+2) Feats: Two Weapon Fighting Improved Two Weapon Fighting Short sword in each hand Base attack is: +9/+4 add STR = +11/+6 Start 2WF (-2/-2 because of feat and Offhand is Light) 1st attack= P: +9 O: +9 2nd attack=P: +4 (No offhand) Ok, add Improved 2 Weapon Fighting 1st attack= P: +9 O: +9 O2: ???? 2nd attack=P: +4 O2: ???? How does this work? Do I get a 3rd Offhand attack and at what penality on 1st attack? or a 2nd Offhand attack on the 2nd attack at what penality? Things I've seen make it look like this but I dont understand why: 1st attack= P: +9 O: +9 2nd attack=P: +4 O2: +4 I believe it's a -5 penality off of your base primary attack, that would make the additional I2WF feat be +4. +9-5=+4, if this is the case when do you get this attack, 1st or 2nd? It would seem if it's -5 during the 2nd attack I should be at -1 (+4 - 5 = -1). Thanks!
draconic_swine 12-16-06, 11:59 AM	As you said, your base attack bonus is +9/+4 for your primary hand. Your Strength modifier is actually +3, and when you add in weapon focus, your total attack bonus is now +13/+8. When you attack with two short swords, the TWF penalty, as you pointed out, is -2/-2. TWFing gains you an additional attack with your off-hand at your highest attack bonus (minus the penalties, of course), meaning that you make two attacks with your primary hand at +11/+6, and one attack with your off-hand at +11. ITWF gives you an additional attack with your off-hand at an additional -5 penalty to that specific attack. Your primary hand attacks are unaffected, as are your previous off-hand attacks. That means you now have two off-hand attacks at +11/+6. A nice little rule of thumb is that as you keep adding TWF feats, your off-hand attacks come at the same attack bonus as your primary hand. So if you take GTWF at level 12, your attacks would be +14/+9 for both your primary and off-hands.
