2H weapons used in one hand?? [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-16-07, 03:00 AM In the description of the bastard sword and katana it says that these weapons are considered martial weapons when used with two hands and exotic weapons when used with one hand (requires EWP). So can other 2H martial weapons be used in one hand if you take a EWP for them or is that just a weapon speciality?

04-16-07, 03:03 AM This is just special for that weapon. It's a "Hand and a half" sword, designed to be wielded in one or two hands. I believe there's one or two other weapons specifically designed to do that as well.

04-16-07, 03:16 AM Yeah thats what I thought as well. But I just had to check just in case there was some unknown hidden to my knowledge feat or something. ;)

04-16-07, 07:31 AM Well if you did that then your looking at fighting with two weapon penalities with the additional (I believe) -4 for wielding 2H weapons in one hand.

This is incorrect. A character can't wield two handed weapons in one hand if the weapon in question is his size category or larger, period. The only benefit given by monkey grip and powerful build is that the character can use a weapon one size larger than his size with the same handedness, but at -2 for the feat and no penalty for the trait. (ie, still takes 2 hands to use a greatsword that is medium size or larger, but the goliath CAN wield a large greatsword with no penalty to hit, like monkey grip would give. It still takes 2 hands.)

Agreed. But if it was correct, that might finally make monkeygrip a cool feat. It would be pretty nice to weild a Ransuer in one hand with -2 to hit....
