| Klink03-03-05, 02:28 PM | My players are about to be ambushed by a kobold war party. The kobolds are going to hurl smokesticks at the party. The Dungeon Master's Guide says you must make a Fortitude save when in heavy smoke or lose your next turn to coughing and choking. Will the smoke sticks cause this much smoke? Also, smoke sticks cause concealment. Does this mean the party will be granted concealment while in the area of effect? Do the kobolds gain concealment althogh they are out of the area of effect, but the pcs are in the area? Thanks! |

Smokesticks grant concealment as per the Fog Cloud spell. On page 232 of the PHB Fog Cloud says The Fog(or smoke for this instance) obscures all sight beyond 5ft. and anyone within 5ft has concealment. That means anyone in the fog can only see 5ft. Anyone outside of the Fog can only see 5ft in. This means both the party and the kobolds have total concealment from each other, as well as the party members have concealment from each other as well. |
