| Harmor10-23-04, 06:17 PM | Can a Tiny creature enter a medium-size character's square? |
| Keenath10-23-04, 06:52 PM | Absolutely. PHB, page 148: "Very small creature: A Fine, Diminuative, or Tiny creature can move into or through an occupied square. The creature provokes an attack of opportunity when doing so." Other than that, you normally can only move through an enemy-occupied square if your sizes are different by 3 categories or if you make a tumble check. As an interesting side note, the 3-size-categories rule doesn't mention AOOs, which suggests that you may do that without provoking an attack unless you would otherwise provoke an attack (as by leaving a threatened square). Therefore, if a tiny or smaller creature uses a five-foot step -- which doesn't provoke AOOs -- to move into a space occupied by a creature three sizes larger, it takes no AOO due to the three-size rule superceding the Very Small Creature rule. For instance, if a cat familiar (tiny) is adjacent to a Troll (large), it can use a five-foot step to enter the troll's square, then deliver a touch attack earlier bestowed by its master, and none of that draws an AOO from the Troll! |
| ClementWillowbreaker10-24-04, 09:36 PM | Any creature three size categories smaller than another can enter the second's square. When they are two size categories apart, half as many creatures as normal for the smaller one's size can fit- if this is fewer than one creature, it can't enter. For example, a gnome (small) cannot fight inside a human's (medium) square. A cat (tiny) is two size categories smaller than a human, and four tiny creatures can fight inside an empty 5-foot square. The human halves that to two cats. |
| Harmor10-25-04, 04:51 AM | So two cats (tiny) can go into a halfling's (small) square? |
| ClementWillowbreaker10-25-04, 10:46 AM | No- they are only one size category apart. |
| Huan10-25-04, 11:39 AM | Well, I'm pretty sure they could all be in the same square, it's just that no one could do anything (I don't have anything on hand right now to back me up on that). |
| The BO10-25-04, 02:14 PM | Tiny creatures must move into opponents square to attack in meele... and I won't allow em 5 foot steps, but 2.5 foot steps. none the less, you get an AoO for anyone that moves into your square, no matter the distance he moved... (or so I read it from P149 PHB "tiny creatures" and P144 PHP "5 foot step - hampered movement") it's all in the rules, so why ask ;-) |
| Evil Bob10-25-04, 02:23 PM | Tiny creatures must move into opponents square to attack in meele... Yeah, and a tiny creature attacking medium or small creatures provokes AoOs every time he/she/it (to be politically correct) attacks. This is why I never use Imps in campaigns after that first time. |
| Nom10-26-04, 12:36 AM | Yeah, and a tiny creature attacking medium or small creatures provokes AoOs every time he/she/it (to be politically correct) attacks. This is why I never use Imps in campaigns after that first time.Considering that any attacking Imp should be invisible, it doesn't need to worry about AoOs while attacking (or Dex bonus to AC, for that matter). The problem for the Imp is getting away; a Withdraw action will provoke an AoO when it leaves the adjacent square, as will casting invisibility. |
