| Harmor09-10-04, 09:30 AM | Can I use a 50 lb. log as a "rogue" for tripping traps? I guess I could fit a rope to it so I can retrieve it when it falls down a pit? |
| CaoSlayer09-10-04, 09:33 AM | lol, this hapened long time ago... there was a topic telling how a party remplaced the rogue for a big log... ever the ranger who carried the log got the feat "throw everything" and used to start each fight tossing the log while shouting "sneak attack!!". :D I would say to search it... but search is disable. |
| DemonMonkeyBoy09-10-04, 09:45 AM | :b: I have seen similar things like that. In a trap fulled dungeon they used the body of a dead PC (the thief) to set off some of the traps. In a similar thread someone mentioned using stone balls and rolled them down hallways. |
| Bartleby_GoC09-10-04, 11:10 AM | I can think of lots of situations where I wish I'd has some stone balls. Wait... err... that didn't come out right... :mymy: Bartleby |

You can if you want but a smart trap-builder (DM) will soon catch you out (traps which are triggered more than once, magic traps which detect life or alignment, traps with a wide area effect...). You're also carrying 50lbs or log which could be replaced with 50lbs or equipment or treasure. Anyway, you need to find the traps first and logs aren't renowned for their trap-finding skills. |

Tales of the Timberogue I begged my DM for days to let me pull that stunt. It never flew but The stories were funny enough as it is. Especially with the Holy Smite. |
| bgt09-10-04, 05:08 PM | Personally, I prefer herding a flock of chickens in front of me in dungeons. They're cheap, replacible, usable as a food source, and if multiple birds get fried at the same section of hallway, you know that the trap resets. The icing on the cake is that no one can say you're a munchkin: Just compare it to miners and canaries. :turkey: :turkey: :turkey: :turkey: :turkey: :turkey: :turkey: :turkey: :turkey: :turkey: |
| trapspringer09-10-04, 05:29 PM | It has been argued that is an evil act. |
| carnivore09-10-04, 06:17 PM | not if you cook the ones that die and eat the then its only dinner :D :D |
| Kainy09-10-04, 11:15 PM | You.. used... the rogue's... dead body... I'm laughing so hard right now that I'm crying... |
| Someone09-11-04, 12:46 AM | Summon Monster I: feindish/ celestial chickens. Probably at the d3 or d4+1 amount. Get a wand of it. Though that only works if the trap is sensitive enough to be triggered by a chicken walking over it. But summoned chickens could be commanded to peck at things... |
| Galahad_Knight09-11-04, 01:48 AM | Wow...my old pal the Timberrogue. Yep, that was me. Though ours was 100lbs and eventually became heavily enchanted. Unfortunately the old cult was lost in the shuffle to the new boards. It was on the first page of D&D General on the old board archive, but there is no more old board archive, so we're SOL. It was a fun game though. The timberrogue rocked much butt. If anyone out there kept any of the timberrogue stuff, now;s the time to dust it off. |

Thems are BIG chickens. A couple of them will set off any weight-triggered trap. This would work best if you are either good or evil though, if you're neutral you would be better off with Summon Nature's Ally I. That takes care of those peskey alignment traps. :turkey: :  :turkey:   :turkey:   :turkey: |
| olothfaern09-11-04, 08:41 AM | ... the was a 3 foot high pedastal with some gem on it, rogue fails to spot trap, we try to take it... zap! Ok, we figure we tripped the trap, so we go for it again... zap! Barbarian gets mad, rages and charges the pedastal and snaps it off at the base (alerting the monsters) we try to take the gem again (it's affixed to pedastal)... zap! We get attacked, combat starts, my mage with sonorus hum (from savage species) and telekinesis uses TK to pick up the pedastal and attacks the opponents with it. After that we had an electical battering ram / trapfinder for the rest of our adventuring days, we took it everywhere with us eventually it found a home in someones bag of holding. |
| Galahad_Knight09-12-04, 03:57 AM | Thanks be to Da Count for finding this link to The Resurrect Cult Of The Log thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=49084&page=1&pp=30) |
| Failut09-12-04, 04:09 AM | I have also found that soem biskets work pretty well also. But it is better to use Dwarf Bread, since you are not going to be eating it any time soon. Now, back on topic. In one game that I was in. I was the ghostwise halfling rogue, and kept failing at my disable traps checks (it was a bad day for the dice). So the other party members just started using me to set off traps and then healing me afterwards! they also kept throwing me every chance they got! |
| Count Arioch the 28th09-12-04, 04:13 AM | I had a party that used the corpses of the kobolds they killed as trip triggerers. |
| Mordmorgan the Mad09-12-04, 04:57 AM | Am I the only one who has discovered the myriad uses of cows in adventuring? Cows are dumb enough to walk down a trapped hallway (even after they've already been hit in the same hall), they're heavy enough to trigger any mechanical traps, they're cheap, they make milk (does a body good :) ), and when they've finished disarming traps, you can always eat 'em (possibly after a neutralize poison, depending on how it died). Never enter a dungeon without a cow! (As a side note, I had a player take this idea to such an extreme that he wanted to play an awakened cow. He got his wish, took a wrong turn in a dungeon, and made a fine meal for hungry adventurers.) |
