(point being that I want to make a set of claw weapons that are essentialy 4 daggers).

Simple answer? Not anymore than wearing some studded leather under a set of fullplate works.

Complicated answer? If a player showed up to a game I was running with that idea, he'd get body-slammed onto a pile of d4s. And probably not by me, since I'd be more apt to say that doesn't work.

On the other hand, I want a three-dagger toilet plunger.

The persuasive power of pictures, supposedly worth a thousand words, rather loses its eloquence when all I can see is a red X on a white square.

Anyway, D&D Tridents don't do nD6 damage by the virtue of having n wannabe spear-points either.

Axe = Bigger head more damage?
Sword = Bigger blade more damage?
X-bow = bigger and better?
Dagger = D4. Thats it.

04-10-07, 05:46 PM
that would deal better damage than a warmace, or a greataxe depending on the crit. Besides just because it has three points doesn't mean it would deal 3d4s that is just dumb. I mean look at the trident, it only deals 1d8 damage.

Otherwise a funny thread, and a good joke I'd say.

:heehee

But ok here is the text on manyshot.

Manyshot [General]
Prerequisites

Dex 17, Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, base attack bonus +6
Benefit

As a standard action, you may fire two arrows at a single opponent within 30 feet. Both arrows use the same attack roll (with a -4 penalty) to determine success and deal damage normally (but see Special).

For every five points of base attack bonus you have above +6, you may add one additional arrow to this attack, to a maximum of four arrows at a base attack bonus of +16. However, each arrow after the second adds a cumulative -2 penalty on the attack roll (for a total penalty of -6 for three arrows and -8 for four).

Damage reduction and other resistances apply separately against each arrow fired.
Special

Regardless of the number of arrows you fire, you apply precision-based damage only once. If you score a critical hit, only the first arrow fired deals critical damage; all others deal regular damage.

A fighter may select Manyshot as one of his fighter bonus feats.

A 6th-level ranger who has chosen the archery combat style is treated as having Manyshot even if he does not have the prerequisites for it, but only when he is wearing light or no armor.

So if more arrows make more d8's why shouldn't more daggers make more d4's?

*bows down to the magnific laughersome sticky figures*
Now seriously, as a DM, I'd set it as an exotic weapon with causes (3d3)+1 points of damage (two handed fo course).

With a minumum damage of 4 (1 for each dagger +1 for the weight of the weapon) and a maximum damage of 10. Critical rate being x2 (only with 20) and not keen edge'able (since it lacks edges ^^).

So it'd be something like:
Stick figure'sflail of D00M:
Exoctic weapon
Two handed polearm.
Piercing damage.
30 GP (+ the cost of each dagger if high quality, making it REALLY expensive to make it high quality).
Crit. x2
Sticky figures get competence with this weapon as if it was martial.

Roflmfao, where do you get the pictures?
About the katars you showed, the single bladed one would do (in my opinion) more damage than the one with two blades, with the one with two blades having a better chance to crit.
As in 19-20/x2 and 20/x3 (the single bladed one is the x3).
About the one with the huge swords on it, sorry, that cant be weilded in real life, physics laws say that, if you want to adapt it, go for it ^^
Qwicksilver

04-11-07, 02:14 PM
I think that a smaller dagger would do d3 or d2 damage, but the larger trident would do a full d4

on the trippel dagger weapon thing, if it was one handed it could deal 3d4 20x2 as a exotic one-handed weapon...

Yes, I did read the whole 1st page and most of the 2nd and 3rd. I am still confused if there is a serious question or not.

If so, then take the 3.5 weapon balance thread (the % based one is the most accurate) and calculate up the damage based on the weapon type (simple, martial, exotic but martial sounds about right for this.)

Then what damage does three daggers do?

Sigh.

1d4

Dagger is a Simple Light Melee Weapon that does 1d4 with 19-20/×2 crit.

In order to do more damage with 2, 3, 4, 99 daggers your only option is to do one of the following:
1) increase the type (Light -> One Handed -> Two Handed.)
2) increase the complexity (Simple -> Martial -> Exotic)
3) decrease the crit (19-20 -> 20)
4) add a severe drawback (-1 to all attacks)

Look at this thread:
http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=694416

3d4 = 3*2.5 = 7.5 = 1d15 = 2d6+0.5 so go with 2d6 since Martial Greatsword is 2d6 and the best Martial weapon.

So your 3d4 dagger would be this in game:
Three Dagger Death
2d6
Martial Two Handed weapon
19-20x2

How about a staff...with one side completely LINED with daggers? Eh?

Or, as my friend designed, the Automatic Knife Launcher. Make a gnomish machine that's basically a wheel with a crank on each side. Pump the cranks and watch dagger after dagger fly into that opponent! Never before has killing been so easy!

If you got the numbers from the 3.5 weapon thread (and it looks like you did), then that would be a 103% weapon (and since it is between 95% and 105%, it is balanced.) You would prefer to make it exactly 100%, since the greater majority are exactly 100%. Also it is designed around Martial weapons, if you are looking to keep it as a simple weapon, use 95% as your target.

Is there a serious question in this 3 page thread or is this just "fun with photoshop?"

Whining about being serious from a guy who thinks a ring of mettle should cost 100,000gp. :rolleyes:

To all those who said that in seriousness it can't be done: Manyfang Dagger. (from serpent kingdoms)

To those who, on reading the first part above, thought I was being too serious for this thread: Slap extra enhancements on your Manyfang Dagger, make it a sizing, shaping, manyfang dagger, now you can replicate quite a few of the wonderful tinkergnomish creations already seen before.....

For simplicity, I rather like the Manyfang Greatsword :)

How does one upload an image from Paint? I'd like to contribute to the awesomeness.
the_taken

05-23-07, 05:16 PM
Step 1: after creating your image, save it and memorize it's location. Usually the first place the save option directs you to is on the desktop, or the 'My Documents' folder, or another folder you've previously saved in.

Set 2: go to a file hosting website, specifiably an image hosting one, like Photo Bucket (http://photobucket.com/) or Image Shack (http://www.mageshack.us) and following the instruction for uploading an image.

Step 3: write down (or memorize) the web address the file hosting site will provide for the image.

Step 4: in a post on the forumns, place this address within tags like this: http://picture.address.web/lettersandstuff

So does 'Detonating Two-weapon Fighting'.

Detonating Two-weapon Fighting
YOUR SWORDS EXPLODE WHEN YOU HIT!!!

Prerequisites: Improved Two-weapon Fighting, Over sized Two-weapon fighting, Power Attack, Skill Focus (Alchemy), Two-weapon Fighting, Explosive Spell, ability to cast a spell with the [FIRE] descriptor or possess the Fire subtype

Benefit: Whenever you strike an opponent with each weapon you wield, you may make a special exploding weapon strike. Make a melee touch attack against that opponent, and if you succeed, it takes 1d6 damage for every two points of BAB you have, half of which is bludgeoning and the other half is fire. Additionally, it must make a reflex save with a DC equal to BAB/2 + STR mod + the sum of your weapon's enhancements bonuses, or move back 10ft and fall prone.

Special: Detonating Two-weapon Fighting may be selected as a Fighter Bonus Feat.

D:

Appealing as it is to go with stick-figure logic, an awful lot of the effort in melee weapon making goes into focussing the maximum force through the minimum area. That's why bullets are so very good and pillows so very crappy.

So you are kind of stuck with Trident d8. OTOH those were _very_ persuasive drawings...

Aiiee, I posted before getting to Dire-Tarrasque. I retract my arguments and offer my players the 3d4 weapons of their choosing, and count myself let off lightly.

But multi shot fires two arrows right? Each doing D8.

More arrows more damage. More daggers?!?!

But each dagger doesn't stab in and each dagger doesn't have the force of one stab. The force is shared between the daggers and it appears to be a slashing weapon. Even if you stabbed, the force would be shared. I would say it is an exotic form of the trident, so 1d10.

'Tis a foul and stoopid feat and offensive in the eyes of JHVH. Shouldst thou see it shalt thou throw into into the deepest abysses of the fathomless sea tied to a large, pious rock (a drunken Dwarf will do in a pinch) lest it rise again to befoul the sunny lands of living.

Do you know that you just threw a feat into the ocean attached to a very religious stone? What exactly was that supposed to do? Just because its at the bottom of the ocean, doesnt mean I cant give my rigged ranger that feat.

not to be too nitpicky, but if you attach the hecas and the Tarrasque by their tails, wouldn't they hurt more?

even worse, awakened Tarrasque wielding greatswords (or Jovar!).

:eek: :plotting: could I get the above as a custom order weapon, plz?

Why are they wielding greatswords... why arent they wielding Dragons. Enlarged Awakened Tarrasque (Via Wish) dual wields Ancient Wyrm Gold Dragos who are both using breath weapons and bite attacks and tail slaps and dual wielding [BAwakened[/B] Krakens who are using their natural attacks for the spiked tentacles and wielding 6 Giants each with their "arms". All of these Giants are wielding a total of 24 Ogres who are wielding 48 Orcs who are wielding 96 Kobolds who are all wielding 192 medium greataxes.

This does a grand total of 192d12+38str(Tarrasque)+8d8+18str(Bite)+ 8d8+18str(Wings)+8d6+27str(Tailslap)+8d8 +48str(Kraken)

Thats an average of 1421 dmg. Since this is kinda like a whip, Im going to say this does non-lethal damage. Maybe not.

All of these creatures are attached via Sovereign Glue. And they all have all of the appropriate feats inorder to do what is needed.

For added fun make 8 of them and give them to Hextor. Proceed to have him attack pun-pun. Wheres your inifite loop now?

Anyone want to make a picture of this?

In conclusion, I love this game. And thread. Just think this all started with stick figures with some daggers. Blown out of proportion? Yes. Awsome? Of course.

And for the record, although the Hecas are pure pwnage, I would prefer this:

...just bcs you would actually have to go from Greyhawk to FR or Eberron in order to get the 2nd tarrasque:D

well at this pont both tarrasques should be dual weilding heca-chucks

Dude. I bet you could use some sovereign glue to stick a kobold to the end of a mace, or something else suitably nasty and ill-tempered (maybe a dire maggot) on the end of a really long pole and just dangle it near your enemy.

ROTFLMMFAO

that is priceless.

I would simply keep the dagger damage yet increase the crit range and or multiplier.

Even if you score a hit with your trident/dagger/claw, you might not hit with each blade at a time, and if you use it in a claw like manner you will be striking in a sweeping glancing motion, not the piercing motion of a dagger.

Manyshot is a feat that allows you to hit with multiple arrows with one attack roll. There-in lies the difference of the dagger vs manyshot. The feat is a trick or special ability, not an innate property of the weapon itself.

Hilarious stick figures however

It's not the amount of points on a piercing weapon that determines the amount of damage. It will always be the amount of a person you hit with a strike. I.E. a club will heat a large surface, a sword will slash a relatively large line across a body part, a spear will pierce through a person and/or its innards. if you instead make a special feature i.e. internal bleeding if you spend an action to turn the dagger once it is inside I would say you have a more realistic approach. Of course it would take a strength check to turn the dagger since it can be a rather difficult move. But then again isn't that sort of like sneak attack?

That reminds me of the 'Can Elves Wield Greatswords' thread from last year. There was about 30 pages of people debating on what race was the most manly, and which was the least, and what weapons they could and could not use. IIRC, orc werewolves were the most manly, and vampire elves were the least.

Anyway, peppered thorughout those 30 pages were single posts, where someone responded very matter-of-fact to the OP, totally ignoring the other 30 pages of spam. It was pretty funny.
Post #304 - Vampire elves are the least manly race, they can only use rapiers.

Post #305 - Can a werewolf orc use a rapier?

Post #306 - No, and neither can a dwarf. They have to use greatswords or greataxes.

Post #307 - Yes, an elf can use a greatsword. There's nothing in the PHB stopping them from doing so.

Post #308 - Dude, what are you talking about? Have you read the last 30 pages? Elves aren't manly enough!
You get the idea. :P

Just for the record, this thread is made of pure distilled win.

On the subject of wizards, this is why epic wizards should not be able (much less forced) to create their own spells. (Lazy WOTC)

The only picture I could find of bigger dragons was a red one (from the size comparison in DMG(?)) but thank you kindly for trying. It would have been too much awsome for one picture.

Except I can't figure out how to draw a CoDZilla made out of uranium. Like, a Uranium Warforged Cleric, maybe. Or a character sheet for a Druid20 made out of a sheet of uranium.

Once I figure it out, I'll put it on my deviantArt.

Sigh.

3) decrease the crit (19-20 -> 20)
4) add a severe drawback (-1 to all attacks)All this is correct, but the OP asked for a Exotic weapon, so lets give him one!

Look at this thread:
http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=694416
I'm looking! :)

Relative Encumbrance Special Attributes
Light Melee Weapon -25% Exotic Proficiency Required -5%
One-Handed Melee Weapon -30% Thrown (10ft base range) 6%
Two-Handed Melee Weapon -40% Thrown (per +5ft range) +2%
Ranged Weapon: Project -35% Thrown (counts as ammo) +10%
Ranged Weapon: Thrown -25% Trip 5%
Unarmed -25% Disarm Bonus (per +2) 5%
Cannot Be Disarmed 5%
Damage Dice (medium) Non-Lethal Damage 5%
1d2 0% Damage Type (option) 2%
1d3 5% Damage Type (multiple) 5%
1d4 10% Monk Special Weapon 5%
1d6 15%
1d8 20% Melee Weapon Attributes
2d4 22% Reach 5%
1d10 25% Reach (Inclusive) +5%
1d12 28% Set Against Charge 2%
2d6 30% Weapon Finesse (non-light) 5%
2d8 34% Double Weapon 15%
2d10 40% Shield As Weapon 10%
Extra Specialized Abilities -10% to +10%
Critical Threat/Multiplier
20/x2 5% Projectile Weapon Attributes
20/x3 10% Projectile (under 100ft) 0%
20/x4 15% Projectile (100ft+)[drawback] 0%
19-20/x2 10% Reload (full-round action) 0%
18-20/x2 15% Reload (move action) 5%
Reload (free action) 10%
Reload (free/full hybrid) 5%
3d4 = 3*2.5 = 7.5 = 1d14 [not 1d15] = 7.5 = (1+14)/2
2d6 = 2*3.5 = 7 = 1d13
2d8 = 2*4,5 = 9 = 1d17
I like math...
2d6 = 7 (30%)
3d4 = 7.5 (32% ?)
2d8 = 9 (34%)

So this is your 3d4 "dagger":
Triple Death Dagger
3d4 (100+32 = 132%)
Exotic One Handed weapon (-5 -30 = -35%)
20x2 (It's hard to crit with...) (+5%)

132 -35 + 5 = 102% Powerfull but not unbalanced!
Weapon Percentages: [95% to 105% = Fine]
101% – Axe, throwing / Bolas
102% – Spear / Guisarme / Ranseur
103% – Spiked armor / Trident / Greataxe
104% – Dagger / Halberd / Scythe / Urgrosh, dwarven
105% – Flail / Flail, heavy / Greatsword / Flail, dire / Longbow
So it's on par with the Spear, but less powerfull then a normal dagger! :D

Why hast though resurrected this thread? That is just cruel and unusual punishment to those that really dont want to keep up with everything that is actually related to the thread.

But, despite all your fancy math and other such wizardry that I choose to ignore, I still dont think that it would be a balanced weapon. One piece of argument is that if it was a balanced weapon, why is there nothing quite so powerful it the starting weapons? It does far more damage than anything else like it. Most of the pole arms have big disadvantages, the majority of which is range, but this one just cant be salvaged by saying that it is sundered easily. Even as an exotic weapon, nothing else measures up.
