| Dargmarin01-08-07, 09:58 PM | Is a +5 Bashing Shield of Defending possible? Technically it is a weapon so all melee enhancements should be able to be put on it. Officially, I'm not sure and just had a random thought. Any insight? |
| risner01-08-07, 10:57 PM | No But a +5 Defending (+6 Weapon cost) +1 Shield of Bashing (+2 Armour cost) could be created. 6*6*2,000 + 2*2*1,000 + MW Shield. |

If you have the money and are willing to do it, you could have a +5 heavy steel shield that is also enhanced as a +5 defending heavy steel shield as a weapon, pumping up your AC to +12. Your example is not possible because you have a +5 bashing shield, which is purely a shield, and defending is a weapon enhancement. Start enhancing it as a weapon and you'll be able to add defending. The key is enhancing it separately as a sheild and a weapon. |

Note, almost all DM's will say that you can't get the bonus to AC unless you make an attack with the defending shield, Many will also say that if you stop attacking with the shield (i.e. switch to another weapon but not use TWF), you lose the AC bonus from defending, just as if you had sheathed the weapon Of those that let you make a single attack but let you then switch to another weapon, many will say the single attack must be the first attack you make, due to wording of the defending enchantment that says you must declare it before any attacks. It takes a generous DM to let you get the AC bonus from the defender weapon without really taking any limitation to your attacks. |
