| Strogg11-12-06, 10:32 AM | Is there any other armor that offers +5 dex but has an equipment bonus of at least +6.? |
| MagicJuggler11-12-06, 10:34 AM | Besides making the armor out of Mithral which raises max dex and lowers Armor check penalties, I doubt it. |
| supernerd891611-12-06, 10:45 AM | except for splint mail, full plate and padded armor, all of the armors AC bonus + Max Dex bonus = 7 or 8. Not 11. your best bet would be a +2 mithral chainmail. |
| risner11-12-06, 12:01 PM | Is there any other armor that offers +5 dex but has an equipment bonus of at least +6.? Best Nightscale +2 AC +10 DEX Otherwise, you will find that most Armours max out at AC + Max Dex of around 8 to 11. |
| Tyler Do'Urden11-12-06, 12:08 PM | Best Nightscale +2 AC +10 DEXWhere's that from? |
| strenoth11-12-06, 01:47 PM | try mithral breastplate for +5 base, enchant it to +1, then get nimbleness enhancment to increase max dex (magic of Faerun) |
| Prub11-12-06, 02:47 PM | Nightscale is fron Underdark. |
| Tyler Do'Urden11-12-06, 04:30 PM | Bah. None of us have that book. 'Cept maybe Essex. |
| scottt11-12-06, 04:39 PM | This is from the SRD, although I get the feeling they got the min caster level wrong, I'm thinking it should be 15th not 5th... http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/magicArmor.htm#celestialArmor Celestial Armor This bright silver or gold +3 chainmail is so fine and light that it can be worn under normal clothing without betraying its presence. It has a maximum Dexterity bonus of +8, an armor check penalty of -2, and an arcane spell failure chance of 15%. It is considered light armor, weighs 20 pounds, and it allows the wearer to use fly on command (as the spell) once per day. Faint transmutation [good]; CL 5th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, creator must be good, fly; Price 22,400 gp; Cost 12,550 gp + 1,004 XP. |
| VonRichthofen11-12-06, 05:19 PM | Monte Cook had the Maille Hauberk. (the armor some people keep calling "chainmail", something that has a tendency of getting medieval specialists very, very upset ;) ) It was a "chainmail" with a max. dex. bonus of +4. Make it mithral, and at least you're in for a +6 dex. bonus. Closest thing I can think of from the top of my head. |
| Chaos Theory11-12-06, 05:30 PM | Mage armor + Permenancy |
| Nom11-12-06, 11:45 PM | This is from the SRD, although I get the feeling they got the min caster level wrong, I'm thinking it should be 15th not 5th...Minimum is 9th. fly typically requires CL 5, but +3 requires CL 9 (3x bonus), so that is the pre-req. |
| Arvagor11-12-06, 11:51 PM | Mage armor + Permenancy... + dispel magic = :ghosted: Actually, that's not entirely true. Technically speaking, mage armor is not one of the spells that can benefit from permanency... |
| Chaos Theory11-13-06, 12:33 AM | ... + dispel magic = :ghosted: Actually, that's not entirely true. Technically speaking, mage armor is not one of the spells that can benefit from permanency... Given. Nothing is perfect. But if your DM allows it to be made permenant than it is a good option for high dex charcters, esp. combined with an Amulet of nat. armor or some such. And I believe it is invisible, giving an enemy that has not cast detect magic on you no reason to hit you with a dispel magic. |
| Max the Immortal11-13-06, 01:09 AM | There's the nimbleness armor enhancement from Magic of Faerun. It adds +1 to the armor's market price, but raises its max dex bonus by 2 (don't remember whether it affects the armor check penalty). So, a suit of mithral full plate with the nimbleness enhancement would have a max dex bonus of +5, and provide an armor bonus of +8 plus its enhancement bonus (minimum +1, of course). ...or you could simply use bracers of armor, which can provide an armor bonus of up to +8 with no max dex bonus or armor check penalty. |
| Gahread11-13-06, 01:33 AM | Moon-ivy armor is +4 AC / 6 Dex from the Arms & Equipment Guide. At 16,000 GP you're usually better off buying yourself a +1 mithril shirt for 2,100 gold. It fits the bill precisely at +5 AC / 6 Dex. If you plan on seriously stacking the enchants on, into the +5 and higher range, go with the moon-ivy. |
| gullas11-13-06, 04:54 AM | I'm not sure but I recall that there was some kind of a leaf armor.......gave 1 in ac and +3 in dex..........1+3=4....but not 5:dancin: |
| Thalspar11-13-06, 05:16 AM | umm i don't think there is an armor with that stats but there is one armor, just depends how much you you want spend in it, moon-ivy has +4 armor and +6 dex but it costs 16000 gp |

| gullas11-13-06, 08:12 AM | true true:clap: |
| Kimokeo11-13-06, 12:49 PM | ... + dispel magic = :ghosted: Actually, that's not entirely true. Technically speaking, mage armor is not one of the spells that can benefit from permanency... Of course, that's why I have higher level magic mouths cast on items I carry. Dispel magic-area of effect can dispel those nice little tokens. |
| angryscrub11-13-06, 12:59 PM | Hmmm, since this thread is already here, does anyone know of any armor with no max dex bonus? I don't care about the armor bonus, it can be +1, as long as it's actually armor. Or at the least, something that allows a +14 dex bonus or so. |
| Onikani11-13-06, 01:53 PM | at 14 dex you should probably be looking for other options. Natural armor, bracers, rings, stuff like that. There are also some feats that allow you to increase your AC (combat expertise, dodge, ) and PrC's (Tempest, dervish). Just some basic thoughts. |
| angryscrub11-13-06, 04:04 PM | Ah, but I'm interested in armor because of some of the special qualities you can add. I thought I had read about one somewhere, but I sure can't find it now. |
| Gahread11-13-06, 04:23 PM | Gnomish twist armor from races of stone? Not sure if that's a "no max" armor or not. |
| TheCobra11-13-06, 04:43 PM | Bah, why waste xp making mage armor permanent? It lasts 1 hour/level. Just extend the darn thing. Or, better yet, extend greater mage armor. |
| cthascott11-13-06, 05:04 PM | The Gnome Twist Cloth in Races of Stone is an exotic armor so you would normally need an exotic armor proficiency, however, with no armor check penalty, who cares? That's what I'm talking about! Free armor bonus. But without the feat, you don't recieve the armors great ability which is that you get it's armor bonus(plus any enhancements) against touch attacks. Pretty cool stuff. It's only a +1 to begin with but it has no Max Dex bonus and only 5% spell failure and no speed penalties. It weighs 5 pounds. Tack on a +2 enhancement costing a grand total of 4300gp and you've just given yourself some pretty nifty armor. Hope I helped. Peace. |
| odah12311-13-06, 05:37 PM | Mithril Breastplate +5 AC, +5 Dex, -2 Penal. Light Armor Thats a good one :D |
| Dheran11-14-06, 05:54 AM | Ah, but I'm interested in armor because of some of the special qualities you can add. You can add armor special abilities to Bracers of Armor. The cost is just (total bonus)^2 x 1,000 gp. So Bracers of Armor +8 with Heavy Fortification (+5 bonus cost) is a total bonus cost of 8 + 5 = 13, priced at 13^2 x 1,000 gp = 169,000 gp. Stop if you exceed 200,000 gp (Epic item threshold). |

Really? Where are the rules for this presented? I'd like to check that out. And what about armor qualities that aren't pluses, but just straight gold costs? And thanks to those that suggested twist cloth from races of stone. That's exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. Is that pretty much it then for no max dex armors? |
| Flapjack11-15-06, 03:48 PM | The rules for that are in Arms and Equipment Guide. I don't really know about adding the other abilities, good question as a matter of fact. Also from Arms and Equipment Guide is the bondleaf wrap, which has a dash in place of max dex, armor check, etc. I assume that means it has no ceiling as far as dex bonuses go. |
| tallric_kruush11-15-06, 04:06 PM | Hmmm, since this thread is already here, does anyone know of any armor with no max dex bonus? I don't care about the armor bonus, it can be +1, as long as it's actually armor. Or at the least, something that allows a +14 dex bonus or so. There's an uber-armor (each set is considered a minor artifact) in Monte Cook's Ptolus called "Urthon Aedar Full Plate" that functions as +5 full plate and imposes no penalties of any sort. The catch is that it's limited to elf eldritch knights who have the particular blessing to the Urthon Aedar peoples. For everyone else it's just +1 full plate. I'm sure this is in no way helpful, but your question immediately brough it to mind.:D |
| Chaos Theory11-15-06, 06:05 PM | How about a cloak of protection + 5? Seems easier that way than alot of complicated effort. |
