However if you are halfed in your movement are you still able to make 5 foot steps at all? A normal movement into the next battlegridsquare will be a normal movement then, correct? Same as walking on difficult terrain? |
| tarkin08-17-05, 10:29 AM | Merely being movement impared does not mean you can't take a 5ft step. To not be able to take a 5ft step, your speed needs to be reduced down to 5 or less. (Or as inigio pointed out below, you don't have a speed listed for that movement type, but that does not apply here). So if your speed is normally 10 and you are at 1/2 speed cause you are in water, then you could not take a 5 ft step. But if it were normally had a speed of 20, 1/2 that is 10, so you can take a 5ft step. Now for the tough one: Strict Game: speed of 15 ft, 1/2, round down. = 5, no 5ft step Loose game: Speed of 15 ft, 1/2 = 7.5, 5ft step allowed Power or anything goes game: Speed of 15 ft, 1/2, round up = 10 you can take a 5ft step. |
| Inigo Carmine08-17-05, 10:36 AM | From the SRD Take 5-Foot Step You can move 5 feet in any round when you don’t perform any other kind of movement. Taking this 5-foot step never provokes an attack of opportunity. You can’t take more than one 5-foot step in a round, and you can’t take a 5-foot step in the same round when you move any distance. You can take a 5-foot step before, during, or after your other actions in the round. You can only take a 5-foot-step if your movement isn’t hampered by difficult terrain or darkness. Any creature with a speed of 5 feet or less can’t take a 5-foot step, since moving even 5 feet requires a move action for such a slow creature. You may not take a 5-foot step using a form of movement for which you do not have a listed speed. Hampered movement prevents you fropm being able to take a 5-ft step, but calling swimming hampered movement is a little iffy. Thankfully, the part I bolded sums it up. If you don't have a swim speed, you can't 5-ft step while swimming. |
| Amurayi08-17-05, 10:45 AM | The question is.. can I do it when I touch the ground of the water (firm footing). I don`t need swim speed then. |
| Dougbert08-17-05, 11:18 AM | As long as you aren't hampered in some other fashion and still have a movement of 5' or better, then step boy! Step! |
| ClementWillowbreaker08-17-05, 05:39 PM | Except not. You are either swimming, which means you can't five-foot-step because you do not have a listed swim speed OR Hampered by the terrain (being a dense liquid all around you), which means your movement is cut in half AND you can't five-foot-step. Read the ENTIRE Srd entry when someone posts it. |
| SamualT Barronsword08-17-05, 05:59 PM | However if you are halfed in your movement are you still able to make 5 foot steps at all? The 3.5 glossary in the PHB, under half speed states you can not take a 5 foot step when moving at half speed, if that's any help towards answering this question. |
