| somesap07-09-06, 11:09 AM | two questions: rapid shot/many shot when used together as a full round attack would allow total of 6 arrows to be fired be a 6th lvl ranger correct? on the 5' step the PHB say can be taken before during or after your actions. I took that as on your turn in the round not when ever you want in the round. My feelings were they tied it to your action not just when ever in the round. Another member of our game argued that since it could be before or after he could 5' step at anytime during the round so long as he had a action that round. here is what happened: P1 shot the 1/2 ling with bow (on seg 5) P2 moved (seg7) P3 5'steped next to P1 ready to attack him (seg 8) P1 says I would like to take a 5' step away from P3 (making him use his move action to stop him from being able to do full round attack) I argued that he would not be able to do the 5' step until his next turn in that round since he did not 5' step on his first turn please help out were are very core player and very new yet. |
| tarkin07-09-06, 11:16 AM | 1) No. Rapid Shot requires a full attack action, many shot requires a standard action, They can NEVER be used together. The secret is that Many Shot does NOT increase the number of attacks you get. Instead it lets you get your regular number of attacks and also move. 2) No. The 5ft step is part of your turn. It can not be done after you have finished doing your stuff. The only way to take your 5ft step after someone else has gone is to use a ready action. |
| Dunelord07-09-06, 11:21 AM | also right on the not being able to take actions (with a VERY few exceptions like speaking and things listed as reactions, immedate actions, and free actions you can on any inative) on inatives other then your own. |
| Azoriel07-09-06, 11:36 AM | two questions: rapid shot/many shot when used together as a full round attack would allow total of 6 arrows to be fired be a 6th lvl ranger correct? Incorrect. Rapid shot can only be used in a full attack action; manyshot can only be used as a standard action. As such, unless you are playing a choker (or otherwise have more than one standard action per round), it is impossible to use both in the same round. Additionally, a 6th level ranger only has a base attack bonus of +6. A brief reading of the text will reveal that, with a +6 base attack bonus, you can only get a maximum of two attacks while using manyshot. Rapid shot only gives you one extra attack every round; even if you could combine rapid shot with manyshot somehow (which you cannot), that would still only be 5 attacks. (If you are using haste to increase your number of attacks, it would be best to state so.) However, since you cannot, your 6th level ranger would be suck with doing 2 attacks per round (in a standard action used with manyshot) or 3 attacks per round (in a full attack used with rapid shot). http://www.d20srd.org/srd/feats.htm#manyshot http://www.d20srd.org/srd/feats.htm#rapidShot on the 5' step the PHB say can be taken before during or after your actions. Another member of our game argued that since it could be before or after he could 5' step at anytime during the round so long as he had a action that round. You would be correct; 5' steps must be taken on your action (though it can be done during, before, or after any actions you take while you are acting). Consult the SRD (or PHB) on this matter: When a character’s turn comes up in the initiative sequence, that character performs his entire round’s worth of actions. (For exceptions, see Attacks of Opportunity and Special Initiative Actions.) Since 5' steps are not attacks of opportunity, nor are they special initiative actions, they are not listed as an exception to the above rule. |

This is incorrect. Manyshot allows you to make ONE ATTACK but hit with two arrows (or more at higher levels). Manyshot is useful when you can only take a standard action in a round, while rapid shot is useful when you can take a full attack. They can not be combined. Also as a side note, manyshot can not technically be combined with shot on the run as shot on the run allows you take a ranged attack action. Where manyshot is a special standard action that happens to be a ranged attack. There is a slight but technical difference, the same reason why you can't combine manyshot and rapid shot. |

| Azoriel07-09-06, 01:57 PM | [QUOTE=pres_man]This is incorrect.[QUOTE] An error of a purely semantical nature, but, admittedly, an error all the same. Just to clairfy, my "5 attacks" comment (which should actually be 5 arrows) assumes a character with a +16 or higher BAB. (Not that it is a legal combination, but, having seen manyshot-style abilities abused before, I feel it is best to make sure nobody is mistaken on the limitations of the feat.) |
