| Eerongal04-22-07, 12:01 AM | according to SRD, You can move 5 feet in any round when you don’t perform any other kind of movement. Does this include all move actions, or just actual movement? For example, can you use a move action to draw a weapon after a 5-ft step, but not actually move anymore? Thanks in advance! |
| bobothechimp04-22-07, 12:06 AM | I'm pretty sure it's actual movement, move-equivalent actions do not count. I'd wait until someone more knowledgable than I clears this up. |
| adgramaine04-22-07, 12:11 AM | according to SRD, You can move 5 feet in any round when you don’t perform any other kind of movement. Does this include all move actions, or just actual movement? Movement should be described as any increment more than a five foot step. Taking a move action (a somewhat misleading moniker) to do "whatever", as long as it is not actually crossing the battle mat, does not prohibit you from taking a five-foot step. EDIT----> to clear things up, try calling move actions "partial actions", thereby giving us "standard actions", "partial actions", "swift actions", "immediate actions", and "free actions". Most every type of action can allow for movement, given the specifics of that action. Calling something a move action just lends to confusion. |
| Garonak04-22-07, 02:11 PM | If you do any action (not sure about spells) that moves you from the square you started in, then you can't take a 5-ft step. |
| Novacat04-22-07, 04:21 PM | If you do any action (not sure about spells) that moves you from the square you started in, then you can't take a 5-ft step. Spells which change your location instantaneously (teleport) are not movement for the purposes of a 5-foot-step. Spells which allow you an opportunity for instant movement would not be possible to use in conjunction with a 5-foot-step. |
| Kouk04-23-07, 02:53 PM | Movement that prevents a 5ft step includes things like: Walking to another square Climbing Swimming Tumbling Jumping(it may be debatable if you only jumped straight up) Move actions mean "move equivalent actions" and include drawing/sheathing a weapon loading a light crossbow(normally) open/close a door pick something up off the ground search around in your bag for something (I find groups rarely use a move action, and just ignore this rule) Moving is counted as a move equivalent action in that you can do one or another and still take a standard action. |
| Nathreet04-23-07, 03:33 PM | I think you've had your question answered correctly 3 times now, but I'm gonna give a fourth answer. Did your movement depend on your move speed? (i.e., did you go from one place to another via your natural movement capabilities?) Then you can't take a 5' step. Otherwise you can take a 5' step. Generally if you're still in the same square where you started the round then you can take a 5' step, even if you've spent a "move" action. If something other than physical movement brought you somewhere else, then you can still generally take a 5' step. I say "generally" because sometimes you can't take a 5' step at all, regardless of whether or not you have moved already. |
