OK, my friend plays a sorcerer so of coarse he wants a high charisma. And what better way to achieve thisthen with magic items. So he dicides the best way to this is with ioun stones. So, of coarse, he makes 14. Which raises his cha to 52. And Im not sure, but I don't think these bonuses should stack, with this score he has more spells than a wizard would. THATS NOT RIGHT!!!

They do not stack. They give an enhancement bonus. Bonus of the same type do not stack (there are a few exception but enhancement is not one of them). Unnamed bonuses do stack.

Bonus like Ioun stone do not stack. Look at the type of bonus (+2 enlargement bonus) you may only have 1 enlargement, 1 enhancement, 1 inherit bonus. Stacking ioun stones like that would be like wearing Chain mail and plate mail and expecting to get +13 armor bonus out of it. So no he can't do that.

Nope. The enhancement bonus doesn't stack with other enhancement bonuses, so he would only get a +2 to charisma even with the other stones.

At the next game session, tell him "Sorry, the bad news is those items don't stack, so you blew 104,000 XP making the extra's :weep:." Then, put a box an empty box of Dunkin' Donuts Munchkin's on the table and tell him "The good news is you have this nice box to put the extra's!"

Yes the bonuses don't stack. Though I think you might be making another mistake. How would a cha score of 52 give him more spells then a wizard? Sorcerer normaly can cast more spells per day then a wizard. If it is more spell known then you are making a mistake in that sorcerer do not gain bonus spells known for a high cha score.

I would have to suggest that you allow him the courtesy of the "do-over." I hate to take back things like that in my own game, but it's only fair.

THATS NOT RIGHT!!!No, the bonuses don't stack. They are the same type of bonus. Even if they were unnamed bonuses, they come from the same source (note: even copies of the same type of ioun stone are considered the same source; it's like wearing three bracers of armor).

ummm, the only posible way to reach that high charisma before epic would be playing as a succubus that have a racial charisma bonus of +16..

16 base stat
+16 racial bonus
about +3 by leveling up (dont gets the +5 because have a +6 LA)
+6 enchantment item
+5 inherent bonuses.

total= 46 charisma.
spell dc 10 + level + 18 mod
that it is without using obscure methods.

I'm guessing your player has a 24 charisma, which is already impressive.

If he wants to boost his Charisma that high, he'll need something along the line of the following:

Tome of Leadership +5 or 5 Wish Spells in a row. (inherit Bonus)

Cloak of Charisma +6 (enhancement bonus)

....

you know, I'm not sure what other types can add to this...

Make him take the True Believer feat, and you can give him a Relic that grants him a Sacred bonus of +5... and on a similar vein, something could give him a +5 Exalted Bonus...

I had a character in a campaign do something like this... he wanted to take a prestige class that focused on increasing the power of buff spells, including mage armor. And then he wanted magic armor. He didn't realize that two bonuses (in this case, armor bonues) overlap, and don't stack.

If you want to be a truly nice guy, tell him there's one way to salvage his investment. Create one more magic item... I suggest a belt. Allow it to have 12 sockets... and all of the ioun stones can be placed inside, and combined into a single enhancement bonus.

Considering that this utterly breaks the 'normal body slot' and 'no slot' item sstuff, the belt should have a HUGE value, even though it reallyd oesn't do anything on its own.

One of my previous sorcerers in a high level campaign had a very high Charisma stat due to magic items. His base was only 18, but he was Drow (+2 racial). He had a Cloak of Charisma +6, and had used the Manual for a +5 inherit bonus to Charisma, raising his charisma to 31. He, my DM that is, let me bend the rules a bit and make a belt with a +4 Luck bonus to Charisma, and some nice, shiney gloves that gave a +2 circumstance bonus to Charisma. This raised my Charisma to 37, and i belive from levels i had another three points in it, giving me 40 Charisma. All my other stats werent too good, but damn i could convince people they were.

Of course, those Luck and Circumstance bonus items cost me the bonus squared x 10,000gp per item, so 40,000 for the gloves and 160,000 for the belt.

FYI, sorcerers are supposed to have more spells per day than a wizard. Just look at the tables in the PHB; 4 per day of each level for wizards, 6 per day of each level for sorcerers.
However, the ioun stones don't stack if they provide the same type of bonus (unless they provide an unnamed bonus, but that would make them cost probably at least three times as much as normal anyway).
