| Waterhammer02-25-07, 12:03 AM | A 5th level rogue might benefit from some sort of magic weapon. Increase the to hit chances. |
| Willie the Duck02-25-07, 12:29 AM | A fifth level character is suggested to have 9000 gp, with no one item over 2250 gp or so. I would say that the rogue should have one +1 magic weapon, masterwork versions of his other weapons, +1 or mithril armor, a masterwork buckler if that fits his combat scheme. He should also pick up some item that enhances his rogue skills, either the one he's already phenominal at or shoring up some weakness. Examples of these are lens of detection, eyes of eagle, rope of climbing, elven boots or cloak, etc. A few potions (or scrolls if you have a good enough UMD) or various effects; mostly curing and first through third level wizard buffs from the alteration and illusion schools). You should have masterwork mundane equipment (such as climbing kit, thieves tools, etc), an everburning torch if you need one, and several of each alchemical item you actually would consider using. All these items need a way to be carried (preferably at a light load), so a Handy Haversack is a good idea. |
| 3DJutsu02-25-07, 12:31 AM | what is good gear for a 5th level rouge? A) It's ROGUE not rouge my friend B) Try this: Baisic adventuring gear, +1 primary weapon (ranged or melee), Mwk back-up (the other), Mwk armour, Mwk buckler (maybe), +2 Gloves of Dex, and some pots. ---or--- C) A Mule, a wagon, and as much flour as it can hold. Either terrorize the townsfolk as a 'ghost' or make waffles, lots and lots of waffles (or pancakes, the limp, inferior waffle) EDIT:  Dammnit, Willie beat me to it... |
| The Simbul02-25-07, 12:52 AM | I've found that a good starting point for guessing what kind of gear a PC of a given class/level should have is by looking up the gear of an NPC of your class but four levels higher than you in the DMG, i.e. a 9th level NPC Rogue has wealth equal to what should be possessed by a 5th level PC rogue. I have not been able to double-check the numbers for every example, but thus far it seems to be a correct formula. So I would say start with +1 studded leather, +1 melee weapon, +1 ranged weapon, +1 buckler, and 5,000gp of additional gear (some of the other NPC examples are bit more specific, such as wondrous items, rings, etc). |

Well here's it's 2K over the guideline... so 3K of additional gear should make it dandy. I'm with Willie though. His example is spot on. |
