Seems like there was a really expensive item out there that granted a +6 enchantment bonus to all stats. Anyone remember what it is and what book it is in? Also, are there any others out there that do the same thing?

It's called something like the Belt of Perfection or somesuch, found IIRC in the Miniature's Handbook.

A bit pricey since you might not need all 6 stats. But it saves on item slots, so it may be worth it at very high levels.

It's not worth it unless you actually want +6 to all stats. +6 to five stats is cheaper if you do it separate (which costs nothing more other than unusual slot according to the MiC). And I believe the item is in the Miniatures Handbook.

You can always custom build if your DM lets you.

If you have the MIC, there's that nice little rule to add to an existing item for no extra charge.

So you have a +6 strength belt of whatever, +6 dex gloves of whatever, +6 con and wis necklace of whatever, +6 int headband of whatever, and +6 cha cloak of whatever. Course, that assumes you need all 6. I dunno any characters who do. Not even monks and paladins. So pick 3-5 of those. Done. No need for the belt.

But the belt costs less than that.

The problem is that it would take up 5 slots instead of one. Only suggeswt the item at high levels (close to epic.) when you need the extra slots for other items.

emptying the slots is the only thing that makes this item worth the money you pay.

But the empty slots definately make it worth it.

And the point of the MIC's contribution is that it allows you to enchant OTHER items of the right slot with bonuses to stats without an increase in cost - you could enhance a Cloak of the Montebank with +6 charisma for 36k gp.

This means you're effectively using 0 item slots, since the item slot is effectively filled with a DIFFERENT item.

But now you cant wear your cloak or resistance, amulet of retribution (or natural armor), also you cant wear both the amulet of health and periapt of wisdom at the same time. you can't wear murderer's gloves or anytype of gauntlets. circlet of persuasion is now gone. you have no room when you have the 5 tat items (but wth the belt) the free slots are what make this item a steal.

to add new magic to an existing magic item costs 1.5 times what the item alone would cost. (so to add your +6 charisma now costs 54000, suddenly that belt of magnificence does not look so bad.

Or at least according to SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicitems/creatingmagicitems.htm#addingnewabilitie s)

Naturally, the person who uses it will have want to boost multiple stats.:)

Paladins are no brainers, since they can benefit from a high str, con, wis, cha, with dex coming in a far second if they have a 10dex and plan on using mithral fullplate.

Monks up close, with boosts to str, dex, con and wis.

Powerful races such as trumpet archons and ghaeles benefit as well, since they have a want for 5 stat boosts.

According to the MiC (which overrules DMG) adding common effects (stat enhancement bonuses, resistance bonuses to saves, AC bonus, Natural Armor, Deflection) does not cost the 1.5 times as much, as I stated in my first post. And you can put these on your other items, so like Suspect_Unusual said, it's like they take up 0 slots.

The MIC negates this rule for certain common enhancements. Primarily stat enhancers and the Nat armor amulet types. This allows there to be varied magic item use, since getting the basics covered suddenly becomes within the range of the characters monetary limits.

As long as you add the effect to the item in the correct slot. The problem with this approach versus the belt is that now if you ever want to upgrade those gloves of whatever to something nicer you also have to add the +6 dex effect to the new item. Which means you have pretty much married that item (especially gloves which would have strength and dex both. With the belt you can change out the other items with relative ease.

It's sometimes worth the extra money to free up all the other slots.

Now, instead of just boosting stats, you can wear that cloak of resistance, amulet of nondetection, gloves of arrow snaring, etc

Definately worth it. I'm playing a level 19-ish game (I just reached 20), and Would love a +6 to all stats item. (Which ironically just showed up in the loot.) I could then sell the other 3 items and free up my headband and glove slots.

Yeah.

For example, periapt of wisdom used to compete with necklace of NA or amulet of mighty fists.

Now, much less opportunity costs.:)

Just to let yall know, I am playing a samarai/monk/iaijutsu master from oriental adventures, so, yes, all 6 stats would benefit me.

Thanks for the heads up btw, I was wondering what this item was, now if I could only find an Obi of Magnificence....Time to go a questing...

I calculated the price by the guidelines in the DMG and came to 306.000 gp, and that's not including extra costs for making an Int-boost belt. Buying six items with +6 to one score each is allready 216.000 gp.
Str and Con would fit on a belt, but if you add +1.5 for the other four scores, it's even 414.000.
200.000 gp wouldn't even be half the price for such an item.

Str = 36.000
Con = 36.000*1,5 = 54.000
Dex = 36.000*1,5*1,5 =81.000
Int = 36.000*1,5*1,5 = 81.000
Wis = 36.000*1,5*1,5 = 81.000
Cha = 36.000*1,5*1,5 = 81.000

Total = 414.000 gp.

Fixed with MIC rules. Belt is still cheaper though.

Fixed with MIC rules. Belt is still cheaper though.Sorry, but that's wrong.

The MIC rules state that you can add common enhancements to items that are in an appropriate body slot without paying the Multiple Different Abilities surcharge.

The only ability enhancers appropriate for a waist-slot item are Strength and Constitution. (MIC p234). Thus those are the only two that can be added to a belt without attracting a body-slot adjustment surcharge, and also the only ones that don't attract a multiple different ability surcharge.

So by the MIC rules, you could get away with crafting a belt of Dex+6 and adding the other five abilities afterwards for a total cost of 342,000gp. It breaks down as follows.

Dex : 54,000 (inc +50% body-slot surcharge)
Str : 36,000
Con : 36,000
Int : 72,000 (inc +50% body-slot surcharge and +50% multiple ability surcharge)
Wis : 72,000 (inc +50% body-slot surcharge and +50% multiple ability surcharge)
Cha : 72,000 (inc +50% body-slot surcharge and +50% multiple ability surcharge)

The market price always assumes the item is made in the most efficient way, which is to start with a power that doesn't escape the surcharges thus avoiding the MDA surcharge.

Her is another route you could take with that take few lvl'sin monk the take monastic training feat rouge and unorthidox flurry with kukri's and then take lvl's in invisable blade, they would be able to add DEX, WIS, and INT to their AC

Look, Merestil, the point still stands. You could use a ring or a robe if you wanted. And you could put them all on different items, on top of other abilities.

EDIT: Bah, three stats to AC? I got wisdom twice, charisma five times, con and dex once, and int either once or twice. All legal, just not sure if it's possible.

Look, Merestil, the point still stands. You could use a ring or a robe if you wanted. And you could put them all on different items, on top of other abilities.I was responding to a misstatement of the rules that the MIC presents. Please read my post in that context. Whether the Belt represents good value depends on what the cost of the Belt actually is, and neither poster had it right. So I pointed out what the rules actually say.

I'm not arguing against the idea that with MIC rules in force, it's much cheaper to put the powers into items worn in appropriate slots; there's no opportunity cost to do so any more. But I do disagree about robe and ring slots being free of surcharges. Neither attract body-slot affinity surcharges (possibly - I'm not certain about robes), but no ability enhancement avoids the multiple ability surcharge if put into a ring and if put into a robe only Con does. Again, read the table on page 234, and the following text.The table also indicates the appropriate body slot (or slots) for each effect. For example, you can add an enhancement bonus to Charisma only to an item that occupies the head or shoulders body slot (such as a headband or cloak).Before you argue that rings are suitable for everything, for the purposes of this table they are separate slots - note, for example, that Deflection bonuses to AC are specifically noted as appropriate for a Ring, and the complete absence of any such annotation for the ability enhancers. Therefore rings with multiple ability enhancers do attract the MDA surcharge.

Well, even with my misreading the rules, it's still cheaper to buy the belt with everything than to buy bonuses individually.
Dheran

02-27-08, 06:32 PM
Well, even with my misreading the rules, it's still cheaper to buy the belt with everything than to buy bonuses individually. Only if you need all 6 ability scores raised. Even if you can get reasonable benefit from 5 stats it's still cheaper to add those boosts to existing slotted items, or buy new items in the appropriate slots. Plus one really expensive item is an excellent target for some enemy with Sleight of Hand or sunder in mind.

Yes, 200K is a discount over the 216K price if you got the boosts individually. But it's nothing earth-shattering.

I statted something like this out once, just to see if it's worth it. An item that takes no space on the body (slotless) would cost less than a slotted item providing a certain bonus. For +6, after 4 abilities, they match. At 5, it costs LESS to make it slotless.

IMO the belt is a good item to have in any campaign that happens to be high enough level for even one of these to be for sale or available for ordering/crafting. Sure you save 16k and 5 slots, but for crying out loud, 200k for one item is craaaazy.

But for all of you who try to make the statement that no one needs +6 to all stats: go ahead and just plain ERASE every single skill on your character sheets that uses the modifiers you dont use, and act like you don't get to roll them since they no longer exist. If you really don't think it helps you, then go the extra distance and make sure.

my point being, the belt = +3 to all skill checks
