| colyn kell09-17-05, 11:55 AM | I would say that an animal could use a static effect magic item with no problem. After all, they dont require any actual use, they just bestow a gift. I have a druid that wants to put a belt of giant strength on his Dire lion. Some DMs would say no, but i dont see any reason why nit. The other question though, im completely lost on. |

Some may not be too fond of wearing potentially restricting gear around their waists or paws, but otherwise, they can equip magical items as usual. I believe there was an article on this before on the site... Should also list the 'slots' available to animals and animal forms. |
| TyraaloftheFist09-17-05, 08:20 PM | I say they could. Of course, my DM had my party fight a Dire Lion with farkin' barding attached directly to its hide, so I could be biased. Still, it doesn't seem unreasonable to me...there are even magical items that only spiders can use safely without a Use Magical Device check. Masamune swords...if you mean Sephiroth's sword from FF7 and Kingdom Hearts, then I'd put it as a Fullblade(although possibly add Reach to it's capabilities...after all, the thing is somewhere near seven feet long, in most descriptions I've read and how it looks while Seph's holding it in the fights you can use him for). Auron's Masamune would probably be a Greatsword. Masamune was not really a specific type of sword like Longsword, Shortsword, Greatsword, or Fullblade, but was actually a legendary swordsmith who made swords only for the purpose of protecting things rather than for killing, as Muramasa, his rival(in some versions of the story) did. The story also goes to say that, after Muramasa challenged Masamune to see who was the better swordsmith, the two swordmakers stuck their blades in a slow river with some leaves in it. A leaf floated along and came into contact with Muramasa's sword's edge, and was subsequently sliced cleanly in two. Masamune's sword, because of his intentions in making the blade, never came into contact with a leaf at all; the leaves in the river veered away from it enough to avoid it. That was taken as proof that Masamune was better. An interesting aside to that story is that Muramasa's swords were considered cursed as samurai were seemingly more likely to cut themselves on one than any other swordsmith's work, and that a shogun even cut himself quite badly while practicing his swordwork one day...a theory that sprang from that aside is that Muramasa swords could not be sheathed without them having drawn blood. But if you want a Masamune in Sephiroth/Auron tradition...I'd say it's probably Keen, possibly a Heavy weapon(weighs twice as much and deals a size category higher of damage; found in Magic of Faerun), with possibly some other things, although it's been a while since I've played either game that I can think of that didn't make the Masamune into a two-bladed sword(which looked like a double scimitar, although most of the character's weapons were supposedly oars of some kind). Of course, they also screwed with the spelling and made it the 'Mastermune'. |

| CryoSilver09-17-05, 09:42 PM | Wow; I'm totally out of date on video games. When I think Masamune, I think Frog from Chrono Trigger. That I think would be a +3 Outsider Bane bastard sword, or a +5 Outsider Dread bastard sword after empowerment, with a doubled threat range if you have the Hero's Medal. I seriously need to get something newer than an SNES. |

| CryoSilver09-17-05, 10:13 PM | So... Sundering too, eh? Or... it could just be a katana, which does 1000d%/2-20x300 damage anyways; more than enough to destroy a mountain. |

Yeah, but only during a cutscene. So you can't use the ability at any point where you actually have control over your character. |
| CryoSilver09-17-05, 10:23 PM | Yeah, that's how it goes, though. |
