im sick of the same of scimitar and leather/padded/hide armor... i need something cooler that i don't have to take an exotic weapon/armor feat for. But that would still make sense for a Druid.

Most things cooler cost more, but a couple of suggestion are

Earthsilk (RoS pg. 160 I think) Gives a DR 1 S/B It can be worn with armor. Combine the two and give it a cool Name.

Pick a different weapon, I know the scimitar is best of those allowed, but big deal. Make a character not a set of stats.

Make him an elf use a bow and rapier

Maul is a decent two handed choice for weapons.

If you do go elf, look into some of the special materials in Races of the Wild. They are a little pricier, but you could try working something out with your DM if you have a lenient one.

I played in a game once that the DM allowed us much more funds, limited us to mundane items (including potions and scrolls) and one magic item that cost no more then 10% the total of our starting funds.

This was also a plot hook though as the party started in debt to a minor lord and he would call on us to perform tasks.

This set up raised our chance of survival at lower level and gave the DM a guaranteed way to keep on on track in the campaign.

Underdark has stonemail(+5AC, +2max dex), but it can be quite heavy...

Races of the Wild will be a good bet for special items... though unless you're being given higher than normal starting funds, you probably won't be able to afford it... Leafweave (alchemically treated leaves as strong as leather, can make leather armours) and Wildwood (a quasi-magical wood that can replace steel) are both good choices for "something special" for a druid... but since they cost so much more than normal equipment... you might be out of luck for a while.

As for weapons... check out the Draconomicon for Dragonfang weapons(made, literally, out of dragon's teeth) which will let you use them as a druid, or the Bronzewood special material from ebberon(it's as hard as steel, so druid-friendly weapons and armour can be produced from it) but it's so expensive that I don't know if you can afford even a weapon made from it at level 1...

I would suggest sticking to the tried and true armors, and then using your imagination. Nobody ever said all leather/studded/hide armor had to look alike. Your leather armor could actually be leather cut into the shape of leaves that overlap like scale mail, each one dyed a slightly differant shade of green. You end up with a really cool sounding suit of armor, that is cheap and easy to use.

Honestly, if you're "bored" of normal armor, I would posit that you just aren't using your imagination enough, and are instead just going with whatever description the books shove at you.

Without exotic/martial weapon proficiencies...a Druid is sort of out of luck for good weapons...Though a quarterstaff/club can be very effective in combination with the 1st level spell Shillelagh(sp?). And later on you can cast brambles/spikes to make it a non-suck weapon. As far as armor...Pretty much just the old stand-by's of dragonhide whatever, or some fancy schmancy stuff from other books...

see if the DM would allow the spell ironwood to be made permanent. with that you could have a iron wood greataxe if you want or that nifty plate mail.:D

Normal dragonhide armours cost twice what a convential armour does, but can be worn by druids without penalty.

Using this spell with wood shape or a wood-related Craft check, you can fashion wooden items that function as steel items.

Despite the stated duration of the spell, I tend to play this that wooden items getting Ironwood cast on them during the time of their creation, they will stay in this state permanently.

Effect: An ironwood object weighing up to 5 lb./level
Duration: One day/level (D)

Further, if you make only half as much ironwood as the spell would normally allow, any weapon, shield, or suit of armor so created is treated as a magic item with a +1 enhancement bonus.

Given that, it would even make the price almost right as well, since a scroll or Ironwood comes at 1650 gp.

But besides that, it doesn't matter what weapon proficiencies you take, as a druid is oathsworn not to use any but the weapons in their list. Most people tend to focus too much on the non-metal part. That's only the rule for armor. I don't understand why people tend to exptend that rule to their weapons. Scimitars don't generally seem to be made of wood, yet nearly every one knows they can use them freely.

Now for a level 1 druid ...
If the party doesn't know eachother beforehand and you haven't gotten your background story yet, why not start with something unusual then?

If your DM allows, slap yourself some chain mail on, grab a spear and tell your partymembers you just finished your ... (interglot.com translates "diensplicht" as ...) military service.
(Why ask your DM: it still costs too much for a lvl 1 druid, so get it for free)

So you won't be casting that one Cure Light or summon that one wolf for a whole round. Next level you can get yourself some primo armor and the look on your fellow player's faces would be priceless if you play this right IC and OC. :D
