I'm willing to bet that I will get a lot of flack for this but I still like it.

These are alternate rules for crafting in this dwarven society.
Couple things that make the different rules necessary in this dwarven society.
1: They are completely self sustaining. They don't trade with other countries.
2: They don't use gold. There isn't a currency in the country, everyone works everyone fights, everyone gets their fair share.
3: This is when the dwarves are at their peak. You know how in all the fantasy settings they are always talking about how the dwarves were 'once great', well I got sick of that and right now is when they are great. This is their 'golden time.' So in this homebrew world nothing is more sought after than dwarven craftsmanship.
4: This would NOT work in a campaign where not everyone is using these rules. They aren’t perfectly balanced, but D&D isn't really either. But the attempt is made.
5: They really won't get much in the way of gear apart from when they make.
6: Each player will pick their job and then explain why they picked their class. For example Miner- barbarian. They have to explain what about their character makes them a barbarian.
7: I will increase the challenge rating of their encounters to offset the benefits.

Not all are crafting, some of these are just jobs, so I gave them benefits, and I am trying to make the miner, Armor and weapon smith appealing as they will have a hard time without those jobs. They will start at level 6 and there probably won't get that high, like 10 or 12.

Here is what I've got:

1. Engineer: Craft (Engineering)-Proficient with all repeating crossbows and all siege equipment. Able to build complex crossbows and siege equipment.
DC: 20 Masterwork, +5 for each modification. (Repeating, double shot, +1, Scope (+50 range), Bayonet, ECT
Example: to make a +1 repeating Crossbow the DC would be a 30.

2. Miner: Profession (Mining) - +2 Str. Burrow 5ft a round with a profession check. Weapon focus (Picks and hammers) Profession check to gather minerals.

3.Jewelsmith: Craft (Gems)- Starts with 2 armor or weapon gems. Able to craft armor and weapon gems and ring and amulets.
Gems: DC 20 for the fist level one, 25 for the higher and 30 for the highest.
Rings and amulets: DC 20+required caster level. If Item have Variable bonus then the DC will increase by each enhancement bonus by 5 past the first level. For example for a ring of protection plus 3 would be a DC 35. (20+CL5+10 for the 2 higher bonus=35)
4. Weapon Smith: Craft (Weapon) -Exotic weapon proficiency, Weapon Focus, Plus magic weapon. Can craft magical weapons and ammo.
DC: 20 for masterwork and +5DC for every enchantment bonus. Can’t craft properties. Use special materials for other bonuses. (Example for a +3 mace the DC would be 35)

5. Armorsmith: Craft (Armor) -Exotic armor proficiency, one armor feat, plus Magic Armor, can craft magical armor and shields.
Same as weapon smith. 20 for masterwork, +5DC for each +1. So a plus 5 would be a 45. Can't create properties. Use Special materials for other benefits.

6. Farmer: Profession (Farming) - +2 wisdom, Use Profession check in place of Knowledge nature, handle animal and survival. Able to find herbs for meta-magic components. (See unearthed Arcana)

7. Runesmith: Craft (Runes) - Starts with a runic item -can imbue magical runes on gear.
Runesmith DC= 20+special property enchantment bonus plus previous special property bonus.
(Example: To make a Sword flaming DC25, If the sword already has thundering then the DC would be 30, cannot place more than a total of +5 of special properties on any item)

8. Librarian: Profession (Lore) - +2 Int, +2 on knowledge checks. Skill focus (Knowledge-Pick one), able to identify items with profession check.

9. Brewer: Craft (Potions) Starts with 4 potions, +4 to Fort saves. Able to brew potions and special potions.
DC: 15+ Spell level. Also can make d3 items per craft time. All Spells not on a list DC's increased by 5, new potions only available with DM consent.

10. Topographer -Craft (Mapmaking) +2 survival, +4 search and spot.

11. Tailor: Craft (Tailoring) Starts with a Belt, Tunic, Boots or Cloak. Able to craft belts, cloaks, tunics, and boots.
DC 20 +Caster level requirement. If item has a variable bonus such as a +2, +4, +6 then the DC for every level above the first is a +7. Cloak of charisma is a CL8 so DC 28 for a +2, DC 35 for +4 and 42 for +6) Subject to correction.

Note on Starting equipment: The player will start with all masterwork items. Those Jobs that do have starting items will be able pick what they want as if they had rolled a 15.

Note on Crafting.
It takes one month to craft an item. The person must have the materials available and have a place to work as well as tools.
For most crafting the Dwarf must start with a desired item and must roll the DC to make said item. Failure means that the work is lost and did not live up to dwarven standards and is therefore thrown out.
The exception to the rule is the weapon and armor smiths. When crafting they declare what item they will be rolling then roll and will create whatever DC that they roll. For example if you are crafting a great ax then they roll a 28 they will make a +1 great ax.

Ok it’s not perfect by any means, but I’m interested in feedback. Preferably constructive.

there is a dwarven PrC in RoS that allows a non-caster to make magic arms and armor, just so you know.

IMO . . .

Craft (Engineering) should be Profession (Engineering) and Craft (weaponsmith) for the crossbows and siege weapons.

Profession (Lore) should be Profession (Librarian).

Craft (Tailoring) should be Profession (Tailor) and Craft (clothes, incl. accesories and shoes if you like).
