A few item questions.. [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-11-07, 02:18 AM Uhm, I am a level four bard, in case that matters. As a PC, I am unallowed to look into any DM stuff, so I thought I'd ask some of the fine people of these boards for help.
For starters, How much would enchanting a Hat of Prestidigitation (No idea on the price, my character got it as a gift. All it does it stay clean. forever. O.o') with the ability to function as a Hat of Disguise, as well? I currently have a scroll of disguise self that I can supply to the enchanter as well, which I think may reduce the price a bit, due to the caster not having to expend a slot.

Also, I have a pair of +1 bracers of strength. Is there any way to give them an extra +1? If so, how much would it cost?

(P.S. Are there any magical earrings? Those would really help make my party stop bugging me about my "girly earrings".)

07-11-07, 02:34 AM Whenever you're looking to upgrade an item (gauntlets of +1 strength [which really shouldn't exist...] to gauntlets of +2) just take the price of the end product and subtract the price of the starting item.

4k - 1k = 3k to enchant the gauntlets.

As for the hat of disguise, it'd cost as much as a normal hat of disguise would, minus 75% of the cost of the continual prestidigitation (which I'm assuming is about 0 gp). I'm considering the two to be Multiple Similar Abilities (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/creatingMagicItems.htm#multipleSimilarAb ilities), for reference.

1800 + 0 = 1800 gp, meaning it'd take two days to make at least, meaning they'd need to cast disguise self in order to make the item. Unfortunately, that's only 10 gp a pop to pay to cast the spell, though really that's generally considered part of the cost of making the item. You'd be better off selling your scroll for half price (12.5 gp) instead of giving it to the caster for one spell use (12.5 > 10, you'd end up profiting 2.5 gp)

As for your earrings, I've always allowed normal rings to be made into earrings, though you're still left with only two magical ring slots. So, anything that could be made into a ring could be an earring. Alternatively, you could make a set that could take up the "headband" slot on your head, considering the proximity. Again, anything fitting one could easily fit the other.
