How to you adjust their Carrying Capacity for increases in STR? My Second question: Can you charge on you mount, but end the change past your opponent square given you have the mounted combat and Ride-by-attack feats? If not, then is there away a mounted fighter with a lance can change through his opponent square? |

Among other things, it says there that Large quadrupeds have three times the normal carrying capacity that would be indicated by their strength score. For some reason, this does not exactly agree with the numbers given for some of the types of horses. I assume that the rules given in the section on carrying capacity are correct, and that this is a typo in the monster manual. As for the charging, you may not move through your opponent's square unless you have dropped him. However, remember that a charge does not need to be in a straight line towards your opponent, but only in a straight line to the closest square that threatens your opponent. This makes it possible to sometimes continue in a straight line after charging your foe, without needing to move through his square. |
| tarkin05-04-06, 02:50 PM | 1) Horses have an adjustment for being a Large sized QUADRUPED, from the SRD: Use the result on strength table and multiply by: Fine ×¼, Diminutive ×½, Tiny ×¾, Small ×1, Medium ×1½, Large ×3, Huge ×6, Gargantuan ×12, Colossal ×24. The Monster Manual did the math wrong, they used strength scores one less than actual for the Heavy and Light non-war horses. It assumed a Heavy Horse had a strength of 15 not 16 and a Light Horse had a strength of 13 not 14 It got the War horse versions correct. 2) Yes. Ride By allows you to move after you have attacked, when charging. It must still be in a straight line. |
| mvincent05-04-06, 05:22 PM | From the 3.5 FAQ: "When using the Ride-By attack feat, you must conduct your charge so that you move in a straight line toward the closest square from which it is possible to attack your chosen foe, so long as it is a square that allows you to attack and then continue on in the straight line of the charge. You still must attack your foe the moment you reach that square. (Although the feat description doesn’t say so, you and your mount also must move at least 5 feet after you make your attack to get the benefit of the feat.) This is a special rule for charging when using the Ride-By Attack feat." |
