I have a few questions concerning attacks of opportunity on flying monsters and mounted combatants.

I am designing an encounter with a flying creature for the first time. I obviously want the creature to use it's flight to it's advantage. According to D&D Minis rules, a flyer ignores AoO while flying through threatened squares (except the first square, but that's not important right now.) I've looked through the core books and can't find this mentioned in any of the movement rules. Does this work the same in the D&D game or is this only in Minis? If it does work the same, where does it say so? I'd LOVE to know!

On that same note, I present two scenarios and would like to know if they provoke AoO. If yes, that's fine, if no can someone point out again where this is explicitly written.

Scenario 1) A small flying monster with the Fly-by Attack feat (and only 5 foot reach) makes a fly-by attack on a character. Does the creature provole an AoO when leaving the square in ehich he made his attack? If he were to continue through the three squares adjacent to the target is there a potential for three AoO (if the target had Combat Reflexes)? I realize that my previous question would answer this but I want to be 100% sure.

Scenario 2) Same as scenario one except that the attacker is a mounted combatant on a warhorse with the Ride-by attack feat doing a charge and continuing straight past the target. AoO or no?
EDIT: Specified the type of mount. Scenario two is not a flight question.

Final Question, (and I know this may not be the right place to ask but I just want a quick overview since I can't find any examples or explanations on the Character Optomization board) What is the Pun-Pun?

Thanks in advance!!!

I'll be answering your questions out of order, since it's easier for me ;) From the SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/feats.htm#rideByAttack):

Ride-By Attack

When you are mounted and use the charge action, you may move and attack as if with a standard charge and then move again (continuing the straight line of the charge). Your total movement for the round can’t exceed double your mounted speed. You and your mount do not provoke an attack of opportunity from the opponent that you attack.

So no, when mounted & using ride-by attack, you don't provoke an AoO, but only from the opponent you attack.

Even though fly-by attack doesn't mention AoOs, I think it's safe to assume that it doesn't, since neither ride-by attack nor spring attack (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/feats.htm#springAttack) provoke one. It was probably just an oversight not to mention it.

As far as I can tell (I've never played D&D Minis) it's a game that's based off the D&D rules, meaning it's a different game and not really interchangeable. Then again, I've heard of classes/PrCs that come from the book, so maybe I'm wrong, but I'd be leery of using rules specifically from the minis game in regular D&D.

Finally, Pun-Pun is a level 5 kobold who can basically do anything. I don't really know the specifics, but he's the result of somebody trying to create the absolute stinkiest cheese ever.

the mini rule don't consider 3 dimention battle ground.
D&D rules does, a flying creature in D&D can leave the ground and goes high enough to travel past ground creature, keeping out of reach.

pun pun is a level 5 kobold psion using some definitly broken polymorph and creature capacity to gain all capacities available in the multiverse and unlimited ability score.

Note Pun Pun requries the mixing of 3.0 stuff with 3.5 stuff.

If your DM has a brain, he will use this as an excuse to stop you.

Also note, there are some variations of Pun Pun that do not require you to start out as a Kobold.

Flyby Attack does not prevent you from provoking AoO's. It is not like Spring Attack or Ride by Attack in that way. This is clear... first, the feat doesn't mention it and second, the feat Improved Flyby Attack does grant just that effect.

Note also that Flyby Attack is much more flexible than SA or RBA... it lets you take any standard action, not just an attack.
