| stompie10-28-05, 07:52 PM | How would you go about making a weapon (preferable a sword) that could kill a god. I have an idea for a campaign based around a weapon with that kind of power. Any ideas would be very helpful. Thanks. |
| Callahan10-28-05, 08:05 PM | Here's an easy one: The weapon is lethal to deities when wielded by a mortal humanoid. If the weapon successfully kills a deity the wielder automatically dies. He may make a will save DC 20 or have his soul utterly destroyed. Epic level sword of course. |
| FlameLover10-28-05, 09:01 PM | Wait - has this got anything to do with the "D&D is stanic" thing? Just curios since i get the impression you plan on killing every deity until only the "one true" christian god is left. If so umm... good luck? |
| stompie10-28-05, 09:08 PM | what do you mean by an epic weapon? And to answer your question flamelover, nope. |
| CryoSilver10-28-05, 09:18 PM | Epic means over level 20, a campaign involving those levels, or created by a character of such levels. In other words: it's an artifact level sword that can easily kill gods. |
| SilentOne10-28-05, 09:40 PM | Godslayer - This +8 brilliant outsider bane (good, evil, and neutral, taken three times) keen defending longsword is enchanted to specifically fight and skill gods. Whenever the sword is used against a creature with a divine rank, it's enhancement bonus increases by the dieties divine rank +1. In addition, it automatically threatens a critical hit when attacking beings with a divine rank, and has it's critical modifier increased by 4 (so the sword would deal x6 damage on a critical hit to a divine being). If this weren't enough, it's brilliancy ignores deflection and divine bonuses to AC. Any creature struck by Godslayer must make a fortitude save equal to the 10 + the damage dealt or be utterly destroyed, as a destruction spell, ignoring spell resistance. Godslayer can also be used against non-living objects, by momentarily turning off the brilliant effect, in which case non-living objects, constructs, and undead must also make this save or be destroyed, making this a very useful weapon for sundering items and destroying doors/objects/cover. The wielders of Godslayer is immune to the effects of all Divine Salient abilities, that affect them directly, but not indirect effects, such as creation of a lake around the wielder to drown him. Hope you enjoy, I'd like to hear how your campaign goes. |
| Kendrick10-28-05, 09:41 PM | A sword that can kill gods would be a major artifact. It's not a craftable item or anything - it's a plot device. You really don't need to stat it out or whatever you're asking for when it's just a plot device. Edit to add: If you were asking how a character would craft such an item, the answer is that they could not. Ever. Characters don't make artifacts, and an item that can kill a god is certainly an artifact. If you only want us to give you a story about how it came into existence you could, for example, come up with a tale about how the god of the forge and the god of death worked together to craft it, with the god of death giving the essence of his power and the god of the forge crafting it into a weapon wieldable by mortal hands. |
| Callahan10-28-05, 09:46 PM | Godslayer - ... you forgot the kitchen sink. |
| rampant10-29-05, 04:55 AM | actually he forgot lawful and chaotic and you can't choose nuetral you can say unsubtyped also there are the elelmental subtypes better to just go holy/unholy and axiomatic/anarchic and if your epic might as well make it power of each now any nuetral char can wield it by taking the epic feat from the dragon magazine |
| stompie10-29-05, 01:10 PM | I like your idea for the godslayer SilentOne. I think I will use that with a few slight modifications. The idea for the campaign is going to be based around the weapon, the pc's will not actually get to use it (for obvious reasons). It is difficult to explain on a message board, but ill give it a shot. In the world we play, mortals have the ability to eventually makes themselves as powerful as gods on the material plane. In order to do this, it takes thousands of years, so hardly anyone lives long enough to figure out their potential. Also, only a couple of people accomplished this, and know they keep it secret. These people are known as Nephilim. Anyhow, one of the men who became a Nephilim, named Jarius, wants to become an actual and only god. So Jarius convinces the other Nephilims to help him create the God Slayer, just in case the gods ever try to destroy the material plane. The other Nephilims do not know of Jarius' real reason to forge it. As soon as the God Slayer was complete, Jarius took it and began to secretly kill off the gods. He killed all of the gods, except four of them ( i havnt decided which ones are still alive yet). One of the gods is good, two are neutral, and one evil. The reason Jarius could not kill the last four is because when one god dies, the other gods change their domains to replace it and gain the power of the dead god. I'll use Pelor as an example for a good god. Pelor's domains are good, healing, strength, and the sun. Since Pelor is the only good god remaining, he gains the rest of the domains that used to belong to other good gods, since the other ones are dead. Everyone else does not realize most of the gods were killed, so they just continue to worship the god they always did and the remaining four gods continue answering prayers and what not for the people on the material plane. Once the other Nephilim learned of Jarius' actions, they took the sword from him. The campaign will be the PC's trying to recover the God Slayer for Jarius, but they will eventually learn the truth about the God Slayer and the dead gods. |
| Novacat10-29-05, 01:48 PM | Technically, according to Deities and Demigods, a +1 Vorpal Longsword can kill a god in one swing (assuming natural 20). btw, Deities and Demigods is a stupid book. |
| Super_Demolition_Christ10-29-05, 02:29 PM | I think a god slayer sword's abilites wouldnt be great abilities necissarily, but have the ability to neutrilize a god's abilities. For instance, gods are unkillable for 3 major reasons. Fast healing of like 40-100 DR up the wazoo/epic only and the whole divine powers. Being able to cast miracle at will or having an effect so that any mortal who comes within 100 feet of him instantly dies with no save...is rather "O_O" anyways, if you are going to do this in your campain i suggest some divine intervention. I mean, when an artifact is destroyed there is a 90% chance of a diety assosiated with doing something about it. throughout the campaign i'd suggest putting in angels, archons, demons and devals. Not necissarily walking the streets, but the Pcs might question why an angel has come to stop them. Also I think an encounter with an inevitable might be called for. I mean, Killing the creators of the universe is really going against the order of reality might want to take a look at the races of destiny to. The Illumians have had cases of members of their race dying and ascending to godhood. Also I believe there are one or two gods (an illumian and the only Humans god) that seek the destruction of all others. Your story is good, but it wouldnt hurt to check it out, perhaps for inspiration |
| Desvelar10-29-05, 06:55 PM | In a large story I wrote. There was god slayign daggers theree was abotu 6 or so . gods changed alot more in my story. THere was a assin of gods person and stuff to. |
| SilentOne10-30-05, 04:20 PM | The reason I didn't put on the holy/unholy/anarchic/axiomatic stuff was that I wanted to keep it somewhat balanced (hahahahahahah, but seriously). If you ignore the godslaying stuff, it's just a +20 weapon, if I did my math correctly. As a suggestion for your campaign, if you want it to last longer, instead of just a godslaying sword have the Godslaying Regalia, a full set of items, powerful in their own right, that when combined grant the power to easily slay gods and absorb their power. I'll put up some ideas later but I need to write an English paper right now... so yeah. |
| Callahan10-30-05, 04:37 PM | you really only need the sword to kill a god, not to have it fight the god for you. |
| psionichamster10-30-05, 07:18 PM | doombringer appears to be a regular masterwork bastard sword. single edged and straight, the weapon comes alive when the command word is spoken, followed by the name of the target. true names only, pls. this can be dicey for things like demons, angels, dragons, and gods. when the command word/phrase is spoken, and Doombringer hurled into the air, it launches itself with extreme speed directly at it's target. so long as the target in on the same or coterminus planes, the sword will unerringly hunt and kill it. there ya go. slap on whatever rules you'd like, toss it in the cave of no return, and you've got the doombringer. namaste' the hamster |
| DragonDeadite10-30-05, 07:38 PM | Fulver's Cunundrum (SP?) from AEG's book on Relics. Not a sword, but really cool thingy. It's a book that if someone fills out the right information the God becomes Mortal and the person working on the book takes his place. Just a thought, since it's supposed to be protected by two Divas with 20 lvls of Sorc each among other things.... |
