The flavor text makes it seem like it wouldn't work on constructs, undead, or even a war-shaper. The debate in my gaming group is that it seems to function similar but not like, sneak attack. And you cant sneak attack constructs or undead. I need to know supporting information, like what book your getting your info so that I can make a final decision on what I want to do. |

Unless it's specified as precision damage or otherwise stated to not function on creatures immune to critical hits, it works on them. Since neither the Discipline Focus (Insightful Strike) class feature nor either of the Insightful Strike Diamond Mind strikes say anything of the sort, they work perfectly well against undead, constructs, or similar "can't be critically hit" creatures. Flavor text is just description, and you can describe your attacks however you want. If you have a problem with this, just consider it the equivalent of visualizing your attack ahead of time, calculating your opponent's likely positions, and launching the strike with perfect timing to maximize your damage potential against the cold, nonliving matter that composes your foe (as a Concentration check at those levels can be freaking insane). |
