| dm_avenger05-28-06, 11:37 PM | Hi Trying to make a weapon i've seen in a number of anima and games (FF7 with yuffi for example), i think this is right but just double checking here befor i use it in my campains Exotic weapon RNG: 20ft DMG(m): 1D8 CRIT: X3 SPECIAL: after throw weapon returns to weilders hand this ok or needs work? Thx |
| GhostStepper05-28-06, 11:50 PM | What kind of damage? Slashing, piercing? you might be inerested in the xendrik boomerang from the eberron campaign setting. Its kinda close to yuffie's big ol shuriken |
| dm_avenger05-28-06, 11:58 PM | oops, its a slashing weapon, i havent played the eberron campaign setting, its not realy my cup of tea to be honest, i prefer less technology and more fantasy and try to keep them as far apart as i can. thanks for the sudgestion though, any idea where i can see the stats on the boomerang or is it under copywrite? |

Well ill just say its just like yours but it does 1d6 and crits at x2. And keep in mind that their version only returns when you miss and requires an attack roll to catch, if it didnt it would be the equivalent of the Returning enchantment which would mean the weapon would really have to expensive to be balanced. |
| ShinAkuma205-29-06, 12:48 AM | You know, it might actually be balanced... It's no worse than a Longbow, since it does require a proficiency feat. If it returns immediatly after being thrown, then it's a tad better than the bow, since it'd add Str without adding to the cost. If it returns as a Returning weapon, however, then it's not even as good, because you'd need several to keep up with your attacks as you gain levels/feats. |

Thx This is not OK, nor would more work outside of magical enhancements come close to balancing it. What you are describing is a non-magical weapon that duplicates a magical effect. That is not how the game is played. On a side note, if you can't find a spell-checker that works with your browser, perhaps I could recommend one. |

The xendrik boomerang description doesnt say when it returns, just that it does. I dont know if any normal thrown weapon without a specialized prestige class is gonna be as good as someone with a bow and the right feats. It is really intersting now that you mention it, that the returning enhancement really isnt worth as much as it costs. Another issue with a non-magical slashing weapon that returns even when you do hit is the plausability of it. Unless you cleanly sever their limb/head without disrupting the flight arc of the weapon, how is it making a return trip? |

| GhostStepper05-29-06, 02:16 AM | ...Rubber bands? I think rubber bands do non-lethal bludgeoning damage, but i dont have my copy of the Complete School Kid on hand. ;) |
| supernerd891605-29-06, 09:58 AM | Exotic Weapon cost damage crit weight range type Giant Shuriken 30gp 1d6 x3 3lbs 20ft S A giant shuriken returns to it's owners hands if it does not hit the target. ____________________________________ about as close as I can get it. |
| nbhs27505-29-06, 12:03 PM | look in the FRCS. there is a large throwing disk in there(chrakram?) that does 1d4 and a range of 30, not sure what else. Add returning or gloves that grant it(or cast/manifest the spell |
