They take darkened bottle glass and use them to make lenses for goggles that they wear to protect themselves from the harsh rays of the sun. The goggles can be taken off and put on as a move action. They remove any effects of light sensitivity or blindness at the cost of their darkvision, giving them no special vision while they wear them. Cost: 10 GP Weight: 1/2 lb. Metal shoes: These leather shoes have soles made entirely of metal. They are liked because they last longer than other shoes when it comes to heavy travel. The shoes provide a +8 deflection bonus when dealing with harmful objects or substances on the floor that you are walking on, such as Caltrops. However, they are noisy and provide a -4 penalty to move silently checks. They can also be used to perform a lethal Slam attack (1d6 for medium, 1d4 for small). They are considered secondary martial weapons when used this way. Cost: 120 GP Weight: 1 pound each Nyokenko (Inspired by Ranma 1/2): This is an herb that grows in wet fields or swamps. When warmed to body temperature, it gives off a pungent odor that can only be smelt by women. Hermaphroditic species, Genderless species and Males can't even smell Nyokenko and are not affected. Females have to make a DC 15 fortitude save or be sickened by the smell. They have a natural urge to flee from it. One ounce applied to the skin or pressed against it or heated another way lasts for about three hours. Cost: 50 GP an ounce Weight: / Dried prune powder: This powder, when a small amount of it is added to a drink, helps digestion. However, when applied in large amounts to somebody's drink, it causes a serious laxitive effect. The victim of this cruel prank must make a DC 18 fortitude save to resist the full effect of the laxitive. If they fail this check, they must make a fortitude save every hour that starts at DC 15 and increases by 2 every hour. If they fail this check, they must make a mad dash to the closest bathroom/outhouse/dense, private bush. If they beat the check four times, the effect lapses. Cost: 10 GP an ounce Weight: / |
| Radijs05-30-05, 01:36 PM | There is already a variant of the dark goggles in arms and equipment. goggles with small slits instead of lenses to block out bright lights in snow-covered areas. The metal shoes cant work really because they wont give the wearer any friction on most surfaces. The other two seem feasable but I would quickly put the prunes in the useless/joke items category. |
| tarkin05-30-05, 01:39 PM | 1) Dark Goggles : Way to cheap. There is a magic item that protects creatures with light problems, it costs over 1,000 gp. No way 10gp is even close to doing this, especially one that is non-magical. 2) The boots should provide an ARMOR bonus, not deflection. Also, if they are a weapon, they don't do a "slam", instead they do bludgenoning. Otherwise I like them. Very nice idea and nice pricing, etc. 3) Nyokenko seems nice, but you need to list a range to smell. 4) Prune powder is well done. |
| Radijs05-30-05, 01:48 PM | Snow goggles on page 22 of the arms and equipment guide cost only 2 GP. They would help kobolds no problem but they would also incur a spot penalty because of the small slits that you can see through I'd wager. |
| Jaid05-30-05, 02:33 PM | immune to blind seems a little much... maybe immune (or more likely, a bonus to saves against) to blindness caused by light or by stuff getting in your eyes... but it really makes no sense that someone casting blindness/deafness on a person in sunglasses would have the spell fail, if we're looking at completely normal, non-magical sunglasses. |

I was referring to Light Blindess, like the Drow have. Instead of taking a penalty to Spot checks, they lose their Darkvision and instead have normal vision in darkness. (Different from the snow goggles) I'd say Nyokenko has a radius of about twenty feet. As for the metal shoes getting no friction: Horseshoes are a good example of how they WOULD work. They're not just flat metal, but they are shaped to give them traction. It's probably easier to make them shaped wierd for traction rather than trying for perfectly flat. But, if you insist, I'll stack a -2 to balance on stone, metal, and concrete surfaces. I'll change Deflection to Armor and Slam to "Kick", which deals bludgeoning damage. It is typically a secondary weapon, but giving them Weapon Focus can allow you to use them as a primary weapon. They also give +2 on Break attempts where the feet can be used (Kicking a door, for example) The dried prunes were a joke from the start. |
