Increasing the size of an attacker on size category doubles his threat range. Increasing the size of his weapon does not. It doesn't make sense, but those are the rules. A large greatsword in the hands of a medium character has a threat range of 5'. On the plus side, making your medium whip-wielding character large gives him a 30-foot threat radius. Enlarge Person works well. |
| guesswhat1232101-18-07, 11:54 PM | the whips reach does increase though as it increases in size its right on page 5 of arms and equipment, I said nothing about threat range but that is a good point also. Reach weapons increase reach 5 foot for every increase range weapons increase range by 25%. a greatsword is not a range of reach weapon thats why that does not work. |

Perhaps I am wrong on the rules then, my apologies. The AEG was 3.0, though, so I'm not sure what of its rules on whips survived to 3.5. |
| guesswhat1232101-19-07, 12:11 AM | No prob there but the rules are not only for whips but everything with a reach and all 3.0 material, is still good for 3.5 until revised or clearly goes outside the new rules. Such as some of the old skills that are no longer out there. |
| WinterPsionic01-19-07, 03:35 PM | ....I supposed it you had like a weighted tip to support the extra range it might be feasible... Weighted Range +5ft Add 50Gp to the cost of a Normal Whip 100GP to the cost of a Whip-Dagger Double Weight Range +10 Attack -2 Add 120GP for a Normal Whip 250GP for a WHip Dagger How's that sound? A whip with much more then 15ft will become unweildly at that length so I only propose an attack penalty on the longest form. |
| tarkin01-19-07, 04:17 PM | I would not allow that. For one thing, look at the Balor. He is a large creature with a large sized whip, that simply acts as a reach+adjacent weapon. In other words, even whips that are bigger than usual LOSE their special extra long reach. |
