If yes they could be enhanced correct? Of course you have to enhance per gauntlet as they are listed as per gauntlet in the equipment. |

| Thorak08-10-06, 08:02 AM | In short, nobody has any clue. The FAQ used to say, firmly, "no". Now there's a new FAQ entry that says gauntlets are basically just metal coverings for unarmed strikes, but also enforces a nonproficiency penalty, implying that it most definitely is a different weapon. So the new one seems to be trying to change the rules, but is internally inconsistent and thus useless. |

| Thurbane08-10-06, 08:17 AM | Maybe they should allow for weapon enhancements to gloves, to allow weapon enhancements to be applied to unarmed strikes. |
| Dalthbar08-10-06, 09:05 AM | Maybe they should allow for weapon enhancements to gloves, to allow weapon enhancements to be applied to unarmed strikes. Weapon enhancements can and should only be applied to weapons. Otherwise I'm going to get a +1 flaming mug to drink from while in bars "just in case". While that's funny (at least I think so), it's also dumb. :) Seriously though, monks have a choice - use monk weapons that they can enchange and flurry with or use unarmed strikes that they get better damage with, but can't enchant. It's a trade-off, but clearly that's the compromise that they need to choose from. If gaunts give unarmed strike damage, then there will never be a need to use any other monk weapon - just take a feat, throw on the gaunts, enchant them and watch your damage increase over levels. One of the concepts that I've always held to in D&D is that if there's something that _everyone_ will want to do because it's _clearly the best option_ then it's probably overpowered. |
| chucky08-10-06, 09:27 AM | In 2nd ed i had a dwarf that took nothing but punching. He was nasty. But isnt there allready a item in the dmg that uses the glove slot that enhances the monks damage? |

| Nobody_08-10-06, 09:57 AM | Before you get more advice on the subject, let me state that the RAW is unclear. All opinions expressed in this thread about the subject are simply opinions with little rules evidence to back the claim. Just keep that in mind. Personally, I would allow it, but state that you have to use some kind of cloth for your gloves, not metal, in order to be able to use your unarmed strike as normal. A monk's training with unarmed strike involves not being encumbered by heavy paperweights on his hands, and it also involves knowing that his hand is a certain size. It really isn't that unbalanced. Flurry of Blows is really just TWF with a light weapon in the off hand (Your fist). Seriously, check it out. It is Identical. For another way to get around this, check out Kensai (Complete Warrior?) Oh...and yes, a +1 flaming mug is a valid enchanted weapon, however, you would need to take Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Mug) in order to wield it without the -4 Penalty (unless you took Drunken Master) -Nobody |

It is Identical.Well, it's not just the flurry added to weapon enchantments - monks can flurry with special monk weapons - it's flurry with weapon enchantments /and/ the monks high unarmed damage.
