A motorcycle for flavor... [Archive] - Wizards Community

This post is not to debate whether or not things like guns, or my item I would like build, should be allowed. This won't work for every game, but in our campaign, the wide results of magic allow magic-weilders to craft every thing from robot sharks to what I'm asking for help with. That being said...

I'm playing an artificer, in a non-eberron world, therefore, no elemental bindings. (according to DM) But here's what I want to build.

I want to build a motorcycle. The base equipment will be a warhorse's barding. The look will be very similar to the Clone Wars swoop bike, or (of course) Cloud's Advent Children bike, but more medieval looking with spikes, and I do want it to have wheels.

This is not technically a weapon, mostly just a mount. A lot of flavor will be going into this, so keep in mind things like:

--I want it to sound loud. Roaring like a real chopper.

--I would like it to shoot flames out the back when I rev. so I would think it could be powered by a fire spell of some kind.

--It will collapse into itself down to a shoulder paldroun (?) that I can wear when I'm not riding it.

--I am forth lvl and don't want to wait til 15th lvl to build it, so help me think in stages. as in, maybe at this lvl I could build it to ride. Then at 5th lvl I could enchant it to collapse, and later I could enchant it to drive on water, and so. A work in progress.

Please, I entreat upon the kindness of the forum, for help in this department. I'm not really sure how to build it, my DM said I could build it, but he has to ok the requirements, so any help would be nice.

Thanks.

Do you mind if it is Steam Powered?
Decanter of Endless water and Darsson's Firery Furnace a second level spell from Shining South a FR book. too boil the water.

You just need the engine built (pistons, water tubing, heat chamber).
Market price 9,000 gp for decanter and 5,000 gp for Permanency on the furnace, Plus whatever the chases & engine costs. could be 1,000 or more.

You could get a Animate Object spell plus Permanency spell on a motercycle for around 15,000 gp no flames or sound but you could add Ghost Sound too roar as loud as 4 humans shouting per caster lvl 500 gp 1,000 go for 8 and so on.

Silent Image for flames about 1,000 gp.

I would simply make it a Broom of Flying with a permament Illusion, complete with sound and flame effects.

I like where you're going with this. I hadn't planned on making it steam powered, simply because I didn't want my artificer to single-handedly bring the industrial revolution to this world. As far as flames and noise, that is me thinking it would be neat, my character wouldn't care, so it would need to be happen-stance. I guess since it's flavor-only, using animate object would be fine, but I could say he added in a fire-ball enchant, to give it, "the speed of hurling flame..." Which wouldn't really change the cost, but would give me my descriptors.

The logic that lead him here is this:

-He hates to ride horses, like the rest of the party.

-He's afraid of heights, so flying doesn't appeal to him.

-His cart that he drives is nice, but sometimes too bulky, or it's difficult to control the horses. (He's not exactly, the best with animals.)

What, oh what could I build, that is conveniant like a horse, that doesn't require the use of those cursed beasts?

Enter the one-man self-propelled cart.

Later additions will be:

--an enchantment to allow him to ram, or overrun

--an enchantment to allow him to drive on water

How to enchant it to collapse into itself, has yet to be addressed, I don't really know what to use for this.

Well, I'm don't have many ideas (as I just keep thinking self-propelled vehicle from Arms & Equipment Guide, which is way more expensive than it should be), but the collapsing part is easily taken care of by shrink item and permanency. For the shoulder pauldron thing, you can just make a shoulder pauldron with a special spot that the shrunken down cycle can lock into for storage...

On a side note, I'm all for this, and have long been considering using the whole self-propelled magical vehicle idea to make an elite group of drow on what are essentially magic quads.

Making wheels move on their own could be as simple as a permanent animate object on them. Being loud and shooting flames is just a permanent illusion added on. Shrink (as has been mentioned) takes care of it being portable while not being used or an alternative version of a glove of storing.

As I said, the flames and noise, wouldn't matter to the character, only to me as a player. So my character, wouldn't go out of his way to enchant it to have these effects. So, that being said, what magic enchants, might have these as side effects.

What about this, for the pauldron idea? What if I, in addition to the materials cost, also paid for masterwork half-plate, and then used the base spell for a bag-of-holding? This would cover the armor cost, and the idea of too-much fitting into too small a space. Therefore, when it shrinks, I can wear it, and even get a little bit of armor bonus.

Enchanting it to collapse is just a Shrink Item spell, made permanent.

Or rather, in this case, made as part of the cost.

I would boost it's price a little bit for this add on, say 20%, and add Shrink Item to the pre-reqs.

You could use the Phantom Steed spell and just change the description. Use a ring or pendant to use the spell from

The spell dancing chains could be used to animate a chain to be used like a chain on a motorcycle. The metal on metal noise could be rather loud. The spell itself is from BoVD so there could definatly be smoke and fire involved in the spell.

An artificer who isn't singlehandedly starting an industrial and/or technological revolution isn't doing things right.

This is definately the best idea so far, It gives me all the flavor I wanted. thank you. This is probably the direction I'll go.

Yeah there are alot of cool things that could be used on the bike. The chain pulls it. And could be commanded by a pedal, or by the grip to pull. Continual Light in a bullseye lantern on the front.

Dancing chains, to power

water walking = jet ski

Continual Light = headlight

Shrink object - to collapse the bike into the pauldron

constant effect "mending" = self-repairing bike

It's official,

The bike came into existence in last nights game.
with all of the previously mentioned enchants.

Soon as I unveiled it, every one in the party gave me all their loots to make us into a biker gang.

Future additions,

Spider climb
Expedious Retreat
