| luckyskatr11-11-05, 11:06 AM | I was wondering if i had a character riding on a migical carpet in battle, would some of the the mounted combat feats work towards this or does it actually have to be a mount such as a horse. I dont have my books so I wasnt able to look it up. Thanks for any insight into this. thanks |

I think there are some rules on abnormal mounts, so I think this would apply here as well. Alas, I don't have the resources to link to for you but I highly recommend checking out the articles on the main WoTC DnD site and reading through "all about mounts" it really clarifies a lot of things. edit: of course you'd have to use common sense on a lot of things. For example, you probably won't be able to use your "mount" as cover when you're riding a magical carpet. There may be others but for the most things apply. |

Check with your DM if you can use it with abilities like spirited charge, ride-by, etc. |

As a general rule, a Strict/Loose DM will require 1) Mounts be exactly one size larger than you and long, not tall. Any other size and they can carry you, but not get the mount stuff. 2) Mounts must be capable of independent thought (Int of at least 1), so that you may point them in the direction and concentrate on actually fighting, rather than directing their every movement. Even in a Power Game, Expect the DM to enforce: 1) Mounts that are not "war-mounts" have lots of problems, require more/harder ride checks 2) Unusual mounts should get the -4 to ride checks 3) Mounts that don't have a saddle get the -5 ride check even if the idea of a saddle for the mount seems silly. ---------- So in a strict/loose game, your carpet is not smart enough and is not the right size to count as a mount. In a Power Game, you would take a -9 penalty unless you could convince your DM you had built a wierd saddle for your carpet. |
