Alright friends here's my problem. A friend of mine is running a high lvl game
(18th) and in game the barbarian recently saved my artificers life (An enormous pit filled to the hilt with rust monsters) now my character has never been friends with the barb actually insulting on several occasions BUT despite this fact he decided to risk his ass (the pit was filled with inhalent poison that the rust monsters where immune to) to save me but here's the real kicker half-way during the fight his fathers sword was destroyed (He's had that sword since the beginning of the game literally turning down swords x2-x3 better) so my character feels really bad about what happened and wants to repay the barbarian by making him a new sword.
(Here's what I want it to do)
+5 greatsword
Has the ability to turn the blade into anti-matter (basically make the blade turn into a medium power desintagrate spell)
The ability to fire off a wave of flame 3/day (Like a hail storm spell that does fire)
Returns to the barbarians hands at a thought
and is made off adamantine

I've figured out the adamantine and +5 costs but I can't figure out what it would cost to add the disintegrate and wave of flame abilities (My DM said I can just tak on the return thing as RP cheese)

Your help would be much apprieceated and thanks

I think there is a table in the DMG for deciding what absurd cost things get to when you start adding magic to items.

PS. I think there is actually a spell that lets you summon items.

In the Magic Item Compendium (MIC), there are things called weapon crystals. One type of such crystals are "Crystal of Return" (CoR) least, lesser, and greater. The least CoR lets you draw the weapon as a free action ($300). The lesser CoR does the same, plus allows you to call the weapon to hand from up to 30 ft away (if it's unattended) as a move action ($1000). The greater CoR does all that plus gives the weapon the returning property as per the DMG pg 225 (but only if it's a weapon designed to be thrown).

Greatsword 50gp
Adamantine +3000gp (includes masterwork)
wpn +5 enh: +50,000gp (bonus squared * 2000)
CoR, lesser +1,000gp

54,050 for the base weapon

Now figure out how much an item of disintegrate 1/day costs
Page 285 of DMG: If you make it use-activated (i.e. he just has to hit something with the sword after turning it on) it'll be something like

Spell Level x Caster Level x 2000 gp

Disintegrate is a 6th lvl spell. Normally, Wizards need to be 11th level to cast a 6th lvl spell. Fortunately, the material components aren't costly.

6x11x2000 = 132,000

Now make it charges / day. Divide the cost by (5/ daily charges). Let's say 1/day, so divide by 5.

26,400.

Now we can't just add 54,050 and 26,400 together.

You'll have to get your DM to rule if this is "Multiple different abilities" from the DMG table 7-33 (2x higher cost) or is "Improving Magic Items" from the MIC pg 233 (1.5x added power or 1x added power plus 1/2x existing power if added power costs more).

If he rules 2x higher cost, then it's 2x54,050 + 26,400.

You'll have to go thru this all again with whatever spell you decide matches the wall of flame effect you want. Be sure you let your DM help you, so you don't get all done and find you've broken the epic cost barrier (any final market price (not including materials) > 200,000 is epic) and he won't let you make it without epic level crafting feats.

He has no prob with the epic cost stuff because this is a game breaking moment RP wise and sorry I didn't mention this before but the disentegrate isn't once per day it's at will when he turns that function on and I realised it would actually make more sense to the fire thing be ice because he's from the northlands

The DM said it falls under multiple abilities

A blade that turns into antimatter? Wouldn't that blow up in your face?

a much simpler version would be to allow it to have the brilliant energy property at will.

I don't see why what is essentially a straight cost bonus along the lines of say... Prismatic Burst is being considered as such. Those rules are for custom wondrous items.

With that said the spell effects, combined with the fact they'll probably be a low DC will be 'cool', but not actually work that often.

Ok...you want a +5 Returning (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/magicWeapons.htm#returning) Adamantium Greatsword... that can use disintigrate and hail storm at will. No way. Take out the "anti-matter" part (and it would explode in your face, leaving a rather large creater), that's just silly...no offense.
How about something like this:

Winter’s Fang
Light glitters of the frozen edges of this beautifully crafted greatsword. Made out of a single piece of ice, it glistens with moisture, but does not melt. Far from being fragile, the icicle blade is keen enough to cleave a man in twain with one blow, and nearly unbreakable. If you peer deeply into its icy depths, you can see what appears to be a snowstorm blowing around inside, battering against the edges in an attempt to escape.
Winter’s Fang is, mechanically, a +5 Frost Greatsword. It is treated as being made of adamantine for all purposes. The holder can summon it from its sheathe to his hands at will. While held, it grants the wielder Cold Resistance 10. Finally, the wielder can use the spell Ice Storm at will.
Market Price: 106,000 gp (If I calculated that right).

(incidentally, an item that gives disintegrate at will would be, base, 132,000 gold. For CL 11.)

I'd say make it an Intelegent Item. Ask the D.M to substitute the ring of fire Greater ability with a ring of ice ability, and give it a special purpose to Defend the Barbarian with the dedicated power of Finger of Death. Less epic expensive, but by no means cheap, mostly within the rules, and you have the DMG to actually give you the costs. Maybe you could even get the DM to allow a modified version of the returning property to do what you described rather than what it normally does, or just attach a locked gauntlet to the sword. . .

Lastly, if you can make this for him/her, why can't you just Wish the blade to be restored? Even by adding a little this or that, it would still be "his father's sword" and a heck of a lot less expensive. Might appriciate that more, in character.
