| lpkaoken09-30-06, 05:49 PM | I am a DM and one of the players in our group is a Half-Dragon Monk. He asked me a question and I cannot find an answer to it anywhere. Can unarmed attacks and natural weapons be made magical in the same way manufactured weapons can? The way that he put the question is as follows "Can I make my fists into +1 flaming fists?" an answer to this question would be greatly appreciated. |
| Salla09-30-06, 06:02 PM | As far as I know, by RAW, no. There's a magic item in Savage Species that basically 'enchants' your natural weapons, and I've imported a feat from a 3rd party source that allows it, but it can't be done with standard D&D. |
| Loki565409-30-06, 06:10 PM | "Can I make my fists into +1 flaming fists?" Only if he can somehow make his fists Masterwork first. This argument has bounced around the boards many times now and that's the best RAW supported ruling we've managed to come up with. Since a Monk's fists (or anyone else's for that matter) are not Masterwork weapons they cannot be enchanted like weapons. |
| dragonseth09-30-06, 06:18 PM | You can't directly enchant them. You can use the Amulet of Mighty Fists or the Necklace of Natural Weapons though. |
| PhaedrusXY09-30-06, 06:22 PM | You can also get Greater Magic Fang made permanent on them, but that just gives you enhancement bonuses, not special abilities. |
| Vietnow09-30-06, 07:43 PM | Going into the Kensai prestige class in Complete Warrior is the only real way for this character to achieve what he wants. |
| Wolfvyn09-30-06, 07:48 PM | There is a feat in the PHII that allows them to turn there fists into flaming fists for a round. |
| KirkBb09-30-06, 07:50 PM | Of course, it could be a sweet quest for the character in question to go on a hunt for a kung-fu master that is aware of how to enhance ones body to the state of masterwork status. By RAW, its a no-no, but given that your the DM, you can decide its ok to let fists be enchanted using whatever method you choose. |
| Neutronium_Dragon09-30-06, 07:59 PM | Bracers of Striking also work. Or you could make Gauntlets of Mighty Fists or somesuch rather than an amulet (thereby avoiding the 1.5x price gouge for it being a wrong-slot item). Another alternative is the Vow of Poverty feat, which gives you Enhancement bonuses to your attacks generally. |
| lpkaoken09-30-06, 11:05 PM | If he went into kensai, could he add special abilities along with the enhancement? |
| SageBahamut10-01-06, 02:21 AM | Yes. |
