Battlematt 02-01-05, 05:00 AM	Whats the deal with shurikens? Does a monk add their strength bonus to the dammage they do? The rules say that a monk can use them in a flurry, without adding strength bonus to dammage they look pretty weak, but with strength dammage are they too powerfull? I couldnt find a ruling in the DMG, I'm sure someone out there knows however...
DM Zoc 02-01-05, 09:33 AM	Considering that strength is often a monk's third or fourth priority in terms of stats, adding the bonus to strength isn't really too overpowering.
happycows 02-01-05, 09:36 AM	No and yes. They used to specify but now they don't. DMs can do what they wish to with the shurikens. I suggest adding strength because shurikens do 1d2 but can be quick drawed as a free action without quick draw feat. This making shurikens usefull to ninjas who don't get quick draw and want to do a range attack at a decent damage before pulling out weapons. Otherwise shurikens would suck too much and the ninja will just get quick draw and no one would use shurikens.
Evil Wizard 02-01-05, 10:33 AM	It doesn't make any special mention about strength bonuses being added. In 3.0, you didn't add your strength bonus, but you could throw three at once. Since it doesn't say anything in 3.5, and shurkien were changed quite a bit anyway, I'd say you can add your strength to damage rolls now. Incidentally, I notice the SRD has been clarified a little regarding masterwork and enchanted shuriken since the last time I looked. 7 gp gets you 5 masterwork shuriken, and they're enchanted 50 at a time just like arrows and bolts. Not really part of your question, but it comes up so often I thought I'd mention it.
Krelios 02-01-05, 10:35 AM	Yes, you can add your STR to shuriken damage because they are thrown weapons. However, they're really only useful for two things... Poison delivery and Sneak Attack.
