niphobiac 05-31-05, 11:46 AM	now, i play a drow in my current campaign. It's height is 4'8". the great bow has a span of 6' when strung. so, for all realistic purposes, is it possible to use in you average traveling campaign(caves, trails, really anything not an open field)?
masterofmayhem 05-31-05, 12:04 PM	Unless there is some caveat in the weapon's description that specifically states that it cannot be used in some situations, then, by the RAW, it can be used at any time a normal bow would be able to be used. The aesthetics and descriptions of most weapons have next to nothing to do with how they work unless something is stated in the text. For example, you can use a spiked chain in a 3-foot-wide hole without an adverse consequences. :rolleyes: Many DMs, however, would simply not allow such things to work as they are (go them! ;)), but, by the RAW, that's technically how it works. :rolleyes: Specifically on the bow and your drow's height, however, couldn't you hold the bow slightly at a diagonal instead of vertically? People do that all the time in movies, but I have no clue if it actually works . . . .

But, yes, asking your DM is a must. The final decision is his to make, since he is all-powerful. ;)

tarkin 05-31-05, 03:32 PM	There are some rules for close quarters fighting. I might possibly use them if the ceiling was less than 8 ft. In general, I assume a 10ft ceiline and a 10ft corridor are normal. (D20 worlds have large intelligent beings, so unless you are using it as a security measure, it makes sense to build things a bit bigger than we do in the real world.).
