| tallghost07-01-05, 11:32 PM | Hi there. I'm starting a new character, and I came up with what I think is a cool idea. Two weapon fighting where one weapon is a whip. Not so much for the whip's non existant combat prowess, but to use as a mode of transport. A guy who will strike, and then maybe use his whip to swing from a rafter or a balcony rail or something to a different part of the battle-feild (o.k. so maybe I was a little too impressed with the new Batman movie.) My question is, does anyone know where there might be some rules involving using a whip in this fashon? |

| RavenDrake07-02-05, 12:57 AM | Only way is with Lasher PrC, unless you and your GM sit down and houserule it all out.... |
| Zherog07-02-05, 08:13 AM | If that is all you were going to use the whip for, as your DM I would allow you to describe your movement that way - you don't need new rules for descriptive stuff. Just make your move action, and describe it how you want to describe. I don't care if you're brachiating via a whip, running, or dancing the funky chicken. Just so long as it's a move action. |

| Zherog07-02-05, 09:08 PM | It's in Sword and Fist, a 3.0 book. It'd take a little work to convert it, because in 3.0 a whip was a ranged weapon. |
| Mellowship Slinky07-02-05, 09:25 PM | The current whip rules work almost exactly like the old whip rules, except that you have to have the weapon finesse feat to apply your dex mod (instead of automatically applying it). It should be pretty easy to convert any 3.0 whip rules to 3.5. |
| Kurama Youko07-03-05, 07:11 AM | um, does the lasher need updating, from what i gather PrC that havent been converted either are fine as is or have been grouped under a different PrC. This is the general census from others on other boards that I've gotten, people saying that since it hasnt been updated yet the 3.0 version is still valid. Looking at the PrC the only thing you'd need to fix is the class skills that dont exist anymore, and changing the save DC's for certain class features to reflect PrC. you know the standard, 10 + Half the PrC level + your relative ability score, in this case mostly Cha. |
| Zherog07-03-05, 09:41 AM | Alright - you forced me to go get out my copy of Sword and Fist. I hope you're happy! :P You're correct - the class functions pretty much "as-is." I don't even see any skills on the class skill list that would need to be altered. I had recalled (for some reason) feats such as Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, etc being among the pre-reqs. Shows just how good my memory is. ;) edit: and even with that, I'd still allow a player to describe their movement in this manner without taking the class. It has cool flavor and really has no game effect - so I'm all for allowing it. |
