| Golden Zealot05-30-06, 12:31 PM | i can't believe im asking this, it seems so small, and yet it baffles me. why o why in the PHB p.115 is there a picture of a light lance and a heavy lance, when in table 7-5: Weapons on page 117 only a 'lance' is listed. is this a mistake? am i missing something stupidly obvious? |

The original artwork was created for 3.0, where a light lance was for small creatures (halflings/gnomes) , and a heavy one for medium sized (men, etc.) As a general rule, art is nice to look at but not appropriate for understanding the rules. |

Remember the thread in which someone pointed out an artwork of a spell in which a spellcaster explodes a creature with beams of light that blow right through it... But the spell's text explictly says it doesn't deal damage? |
| supernerd891605-30-06, 02:55 PM | I try to use the art as a basis, but most of the time I end up changing some details. I don't like the greatsword or rapier pictures, but I use them and then expand on them, to make it easier to visualize than coming up with something from thin air. Then again, neither are very hard to imagine. But for, say, a gnome hooked hammer... |
