What if a DnD game was centered around a swordsmith/adventurer who's goal in life was to create the perfect sword but, to create the sword he must travel across the land collecting all kinds of magical materials, facing danger and hardship along the way. |

What if a DnD game was centered around a swordsmith/adventurer who's goal in life was to create the perfect sword but, to create the sword he must travel across the land collecting all kinds of magical materials, facing danger and hardship along the way. Sounds like it could be fun. Beware of a couple pitfalls, though... When you say "DnD game" do you mean a single quest? It might be hard to keep players interest for an entire campaign like this. My initial reaction is that this quest would work well for a few sessions; but, if it got much longer than that, it might start to get old. This quest sounds very interesting for a single character - the swordsmith. Make sure that his companions have important roles in the quest. What's in it for them? Unless the players are OK with being "followers" of the swordsmith, they might grow tired of adventuring in his quest. Everybody needs a little "Me" time. Another reason this would make a good 3-session quest is that it does focus on one player. But, don't make it too long. Then, you can create another 3-session quest focused on a different party member... and then the next, and the next. So, everybody gets equal focus. Of course, these little quests really should get balanced out by either a recurring or ultimate "grand adventure" in which everybody has equal involvement. Boy, DMing is tough work -- especially with homebrewed quests/campaigns! |
