Amnesia can be a good way to end a fight, just throw it at someone's face, put away your weapons while he's wiping his eyes and act surprised and ask why he has his sword out. Or maybe someone knows a little too much. I guess it would be a contact poison, DC's been established as 25, initial effect amnesia, no secondary effect. With a DC like that, I would guess somewhere in the neighborhood of 900 gp or something, but I'll keep looking. Anyone got anything better? |
| MnemonicSV12-02-07, 05:23 PM | Well... DC 25 seems a little steep to me. According to the Manual of the Planes, the DC for contact with the styx is only 17. Admittedly, that's a 3.0 book... I don't know if the DC has been increased since 3.5, or where to look to find that out. In any event, stabilizing a vial of styx water for later use would have to be an alchemical process. I think that just anybody taking as much water from the styx that you need, and it still being effective, would just be soooooooo broken. I assume that styx water removed from the river for more than a round or two loses it's effects. That means you'll need to determine a market price (as you mentioned), a Craft (alchemy) DC, the weight (probably no weight worth noting), and how long it can be loosed from the vial before it loses efficacy. Since the substance is not actually a poison, creatures with poison immunity would gain no immunity to it (except for creatures which are immune to all effects that require Fort. saves, at your discretion). I'm thinking a 500 gp price tag, DC 25 Craft (alchemy) check, -- weight, and maybe 10 minutes exposed to air before it loses potency. That's totally ad hoc though... I have nothing firm to base that on. [edit] Oh yeah... bear in mind that clever adventurers will likely want to smear this stuff on a blade. Rule there is a 5% chance of the character accidentally exposing himself to it by accident, similar to applying a poison. |
