| RavenDrake05-24-07, 11:38 PM | It depends on the items and the slot in question. Almost all paired items have a specific statement in thier description(as well in the general rules for magic items) that both of the pair must be worn for the item to be effective... though, as I read the Eye, it says you can use only one so long as you cover the other eye. Just wearing the eyepatch would not be enough(as the eyepatch specifically states that it does not impair vision), you would need to cover the eye(and they eyepatch) physically to use the Eye lens. Additionally, if you were to move the eyepatch to the other eye, you would need to remove the lens. If you insterted it on the opposite eye, then you would probably suffer the dizziness effect again. Of course, that's dependant on the DM allowing you use both the Patch and the Lens. As you only have one "face" slot, you would technically be able to wear only one item. As for the glove of storing, gauntlet of rust part... that's up to DM interpretation. Technically you have ONLY one "hands" slot to which both of these items would belong. However, both of them are single objects(not pairs), and the description for the slot says "one pair of gloves or gauntlets"... so, really, that one is up for grabs as well. Both of these are special circumstances that a DM could easily rule either way on and be well within reason. Personally, I don't think there's much of a problem in allowing you to do this since there are so few items which provide this benefit, however I would not necessarily allow you to create new "one handed" gloves or "one eye" lenses just to take advantage of it... |
| Morwen05-24-07, 11:53 PM | You could wear both, but you would only be able to get the benefit from one of the items at a time. |
| Visigo7h05-25-07, 12:03 AM | The item slots are chakra spots. Meaning you can only gain the benefit of one unless a feat or ability allows you to wear more then one. Glove of storing and gauntlet of rust I believe both say that they count as a pair, as would the eye patch.. |
| RavenDrake05-25-07, 12:10 AM | Where did you dig up that "Chakra point" stuff? If it's something that explains why things only work a certain way in your campaing world, that's fine, but presenting it like it's a rule is a little misleading. Additionally, neither the Gauntlet of Rust, Glove of Storing, nor Corsair's Eyepatch state in any way that they "count as a pair" of thier representative type. Not to say that just because they don't say it emphatically that it's legal, but there is some room for interpretation. |
| Visigo7h05-25-07, 12:40 AM | The Chakra point is from magic of incarnum. It is just the name it used for there variation of magic item slots. I apologize for misusing the term, but it is the accurate description for how magic items work (hence its addition for incarnum). There are 10 spots where the magic items work. And if you read the DMG it says that the glove slot holds "One Glove, pair of gloves or pair of gauntlets on the hands." now you can carry as many magic items as you wish for any slot, but you only gain the effect of one for that slot so sayith the DMG. Now like all rules, the DM has the final say, so if the DM thinks that it is ok, then rule 0 says it is. Also, as a side note, magic gauntlets in the likness of +5 flaming exedra, do not count as the hand slot but as weapons. |

Also, I appologise if the way I worded that sounded rude or offensive.... I had simply never heard the term "chakra point" used in reference to magic items in D&D. Ah... I was operating under the presumption that it refered to "pair of gloves or guantlets" and did not single out the single gloves. In that case, then, I would have to pretty much rule against mixing and matching single items in slots equiped by pairs, at least as far as RAW goes. |
